What if you filled with water and have a water valve on the side to remove and add. The weight would help keep the tines in the ground that way.. just a thought.
    Good engineering!

Sounds Like he filled it with cement. Water would rust the nails eventually.

Robert Loughrey water on the inside I think would affect less than the soil and water on the outside.. It is a good point to contemplate though about rusting inside... good point.

Would screws not work better to pull out some soil?

Jordan Law the purpose is not to pull out soil, it’s to open up and loosen the soil. The reason he uses bolts is so they can be held in place with a nut.

You're not aerating the lawn, but rather putting holes into the lawn that don't equate the right amount water and nutrients into the lawn. The idea is that you leave holes in the ground around 1/2 inch - 3/4 inch that open the lawn, allowing more breathing, so to speak, to occur. 1/8 inch spikes don't do that trick. You'd need to aerate with this thing weekly, rather than bi-annually.

You'd almost have to fill the PVC with cement or something heavy, wouldn't you think? I'm not a Botanist guru, but you aerate to soften up your lawn... I'd think You need at least a ½ inch diameter plug size to aerate properly, wouldn't you agree?

Have you seen these new aerators with tines that are cone-shaped? It just punches holes then you rake in the sand.

Taylor you have totally missed the biggest part, the plug pulling brings subsurface nutrients up to the surface where the plants can use them. The hole is actually a secondary thing. Once plants get root bound they stop growing well, tis why you work up hay crops every few years. With a lawn you need to simulate this affect, hence the removal of the plugs. Plus it reintroduces needed nutrients from the soil below. This abortion is just that, the stunned fuck stick needs to understand the principle before making something stupid and useless.

If you had to change anything what it would be? It looks like the tires are a bit too big, do the entire nails penetrate the ground? Would you have gone with smaller tires so that the nails would go deeper into the soil?. I love this wish you had done a step by step tutorial.

I'm guessing that the wheels are just there to move it to the lawn. Then he flips the handle to the other side so the wheels don't touch the ground while rolling.

Good concept but you’re only causing further compaction. Plugs need to be pulled out for the soil to settle in those void areas. Fill those voids with composted materials.

Boy, there are sure some obnoxious Trumpers posting below, no doubt because the video creator has an accent. They are probably professional lawn care workers, not smart enough to do anything else.
