    Great review. Helpful to get these different paddles in context. Appreciate the fresh perspective - so many paddles and always changing. I would add one comment that others may have mentioned. I once played a professional racquetball player sponsored by a top tier racquet maker. After our match I mentioned I had noted they had changed racquets. I asked which brand / model was preferred. The response - “whoever sponsors me”. So yes people have real preferences but don’t let the pros usage be your only reason for picking.

    I would move Gearbox up. They have 22 different paddles in several price ranges. They have been the leader in carbon fiber way before other companies. Their new CX line is especially good. The 14mm is an interesting soft paddle and the 11mm is a powerful hammer. I play with both paddles depending on the completion. I love that you can get demo paddles to try for a week for $20 bucks. For all these reasons they are at the top tier.

    CRBN is, to me, the gold standard. I don't care if they don't have a long line-up, they make a great paddle and, most important, they treated their customers VERY well after the whole (arbitrary and lame) decision to ban all of them. The comeback has demonstrated a devotion to customer service, and that, to me, is the mark of a truly great company.

    Nice review!
    I'll throw my hat in the ring for the Engage brand being bumped up one notch to the top tier. They offer multiple different handle lengths and body styles for their top of the line Pursuit line (which I really like), AND their higher end Poach line (which I also really like), AND their Encore line. (which you mentioned) They also came out with a more budget friendly Omega line with different handles & body styles.
    Their warranty is top notch. Full replacement on manufacturing issues for the life of the paddle.
    ALSO... they offer a number of brand new "cosmetically blemished" (doesn't effect performance) high end paddles for substantial discounts on their site. I've received 2 of the blemished paddles and you can't even tell where the blemish is. That's a fantastic option that a lot of companies don't offer, and a great opportunity for people to get $30 off a paddle and then if they have a promo code too, they can tack that on as well. I did that (with a rare 50% off promo code) and received a Pursuit EX 6.0 for $90. Can't beat that.

  • @kernersvilleinternet1511
    @kernersvilleinternet1511 2 роки тому +6

    I think if I based my rankings off of performance for the paddles instead of the company, it would align to this chart. Joola for this year has definitely stepped up their game, Selkirk has continued positive growth, Diadem only has the warrior worth playing and as well have swayed away from their Iconic thick paddle and went the generic route as Electrum and CRBN who are the original CRBN companies. Paddletek continues to be a developing and variety company along with engage and Gearbox. GRUVN capitalized on what was lacking in CRBN and Electrum in terms of raw carbon different shapes and handle length. Franklin, Babolat, and Gamma honestly feel like they just dabbled into pickleball and won't invest like the top tier companies have. Head is also almost on par with what I call the Variety company like Engage and Paddletek, but their lineup variety keeps them under those 2 i mention. Vulcan looking at it now without insider, Sub par to a C and F.
    Pro XR needs to prove themselves before charging that price for a paddle. Who knows its just a gimmick or a company that is really trying to dip their foot into PB. Pro Kennix has a slow growth and cater to a specific audience I feel like.

      @kernersvilleinternet1511 Рік тому

      @@juliangallo9949 So the longer you play the more you graduate into the category of paddles. Carbon fiber paddles are pretty much the upper threshold of what a serious pickleballer would use. Now that didn't answer your thoughts about why theres so much to choose from that you dont know whats for you or not? Everyone has a budget. some better than the other. The name of the game for most people is that the more expensive it is... the better. Not entirely true. While the Electrum, CRBN, and Joola's line are 180+, they prove themselves in the market for getting what you need from a paddle. Joola's hyperion is head heavy, CBRN has a lot of touch and control with decent power, Electrum is solid, good touch and decent power. It all comes down to what you as a player is lacking as well.

    Right now I got the new titan pro lx, again woven carbon and it's a different animal, faster and with different characteristics. I don't think it's fair to focus on spin - and I'm a player that is using a table tennis grip and a lot of spin - not a lot of players are using that spin, why is it so important suddenly?

    Someone else mentioned factoring in warranties and I agree. I'd knock Electrum and Gruvn down a tier for their 90-day warranties. Unless you're a sponsored player you pay a lot for a paddle that doesn't make it 6 months. Electrum started out with a 1-yr warranty, dropped it to 6 months, and now it's 90 days. That says a lot for how much confidence they have in the quality of their product. Selkirk offers 1-yr to limited lifetime, same with a few others. In fact, the big companies all offer a minimum of a year while the newer companies are 6 months or less, including Joola. CRBN, Electrum, Gruvn, etc.

      @@nicholaswittendorf7230 The Tantrum GXT is reviewed in several different places as having one of the largest and most forgiving sweet spots for control, while receiving tepid grades for developing huge power or spin compared to other paddles in the same class.
      This is also the first time I've seen it posted that the TMPR paddles are cheaply made. I did see one comment on Reddit of an experience where the honeycomb didn't hold up well to hard ball strikes after a year. But of course, most of what you read comes out in the year following product introduction, so you never know if you're getting the same thing a few years down the road.
      As an example, I've been wearing the same design of Ecco shoe since around 2000, because it fits my foot perfectly. But every replacement from then to now has shaved off a few more grams. Now with the pair I'm wearing I can actually feel the honeycomb-like layer under the insole when I put a lot of weight on one area. If the next version is yet another step down, I'm giving up on the brand.
      I just ordered a Tantrum GXT as my second paddle, after taking up the sport with a CDN $50 paddle last summer (which was quite playable, actually). I'm a mid-grade 3.5 at this point, and what I need is a soft, forgiving control paddle for a year to practice drops and resets. Then I'll transition to something with more heat and spin. On the reviews I've read, of the paddle-as manufactured on introduction-it's just not possible that this paddle has a "small" sweet spot. Perhaps you got this impression because the paddle hasn't got _any_ sweet spot relative to the kind of power other paddles in this class tend to develop.
      Pickleball facilities are way oversubscribed around here, so mixed pickup is the only way I get much court time in the summer. I'm nearly 6'5". If I'm gripping and ripping with a hot paddle, then I'm the jerk that most of the smaller middle-aged women don't want to play with. The other problem with aggressive play is that "put away" is a synonym for "let's all practice more serves and service returns". But I don't need those skills. Tricky serves work great against 3.5s with a slow first step, but hardly at all above this level (or they didn't, until this new wave of ridiculous paddle technology). What I need from the group are longer rallies with more net play. If I hit the ball hard in this kind of a mixed group, I'm my own worst enemy in obtaining useful practice on court.
      Local facilities might catch up to demand by 2024 or 2025. And then the calculation becomes different.

    I absolutely LOVED my Diadem Warrior, but my first one (purchased when they first came out) broke down after 3 months. They replaced it for me, but the second one broke down after 4 months. They had me send it back but ended up saying it was fine, even though it sounded and felt different, even the people I play with noticed a difference in the sound. So I won't buy another one, but I'm curious to know what paddle you think is most similar to the Warrior. I tend to play more soft/control than power. Thanks!

    I'm a big fan of the Gamma Hellbender. In my opinion, that tapered, but elongated shape with a short handle is a niche that I don't see from other companies. In my opinion, the tapered shape pushes the sweet spot out nearer to the top of the paddle head where most players are making contact anyhow. This gives extra pop for power strokes. It has a large sweet spot and balance between power and control. I am also a huge fan of the graphite face. I haven't fully tested my theory, but I think a worn graphite paddle face gets more spin than a brand new one.

I’m not arguing the handle thing isn’t weird or the advertisements are bogus( I haven’t seen them) but the paddle needs to be given a fair analysis. The handle can be very good for someone who doesn’t shift grip or use a non standard grip. In fact it provides good stability. The paddle has good feel as well. Diadem rated as "A" even though it breaks? Paddletek is a great paddle with great feel and accuracy for extended dink rallies. Head is a great paddle too. Don't down grade a paddle because a company doesn't offer a variety of paddles, high spin, and gimmicks. High spin rate is the biggest gimmick of all time. I see so many players fall for it, and lose game after game because they focus on maximum spin and lack the control and speed needed to win volleys at the kitchen. Control, balance, speed, and feel are major factors when hitting resets. Heavier paddles are slower. You may consider moving Paddletek up to "S" as they are no frills, high quality, and are great "control" paddles. Selkirk and Joola really are great paddles too. Not a bunch of gimmicks. Great customer service is vital. Overall, good video and rankings.

    It IS a little tricky to rank companies based on one model's success; but then add variety as a plus or minus if a company has too few or too many models.
    I'd bump Gamma up a notch for having a good variety of models and prices, even though they might not have a hot raw-carbon model now. The RZR and Needle were both sleepers...very nice paddles.
    UNLESS I'm a dealer or brand ambassador, it doesn't matter if a brand has a diverse lineup.
    It only takes one model to put a brand high on the "radar". Hard to fault a company for "only" having a couple of very popular models.

What other paddles should I be looking at around the $100 price point? seems like finding reviews from multiple sources can be tough.

      My suggestions would be;
      Franklin Signature. Use code forum20 on their website for 20% off (might need to use all caps)
      Niupipo Explorer Pro (Amazon) I think their website might have a 10% discount code too.
      The Head may be okay, but I haven’t used it. Franklin signature is massively popular.

      @@PickleballStudio Thanks alot, I will do some research on those 2. There are so many options, makes it tough to choose your first decent paddle.
