I love how much more blunt Aizec is lol. Chris is usually very careful when talking about a paddle he doesn't like, while Aizec is just straight up like "I hated this thing" 🤣
$300!? Who are these guys!? JK. Thank you so much for the chat about our bag. And we’ll keep making it better as we get more feedback like this. Keep up the great work you guys. Always amazing content. 🔥
Love the hesacore. I have one for each paddle so no need to remove and put on. The hot water method works well. I also use baby oil. Works well, too. Helps with my tennis elbow by reducing the vibrations.
I enjoyed the podcast with Aizec. Ed Ju has put out several videos on how to put on the Hesacore grip. Ed’s latest video shows an easy way that he puts on his Hesacore grip. I made it to the kitchen and enjoyed the memes. Thank you Chris and Aizec.
I will say, I LOVE my hesacore! My grip was too slippery with my DBD, (obviously an overgrip would’ve helped) so I got the white grip and overgripped and will never go back. Definitely a preference thing, but I do love it. My wife has one too now.
Looking forward to the standard comparison! Please include the ALW. Aizec has great insight and we know what he likes, not standards but he still knows what a standard paddle should be.
I always enjoy when the BLO makes an appearance and offers his opinions on paddles. I see it as a benefit overall since Aizec has a different stature and playstyle than Chris, thus differing opinions from a different perspectives. Great discussion on all the standard shaped paddles and I agree that many players would benefit from using one! I recently went from a hybrid shape back to a standard debating between the Volair Forza M216 and PIKKL HP16; I ultimately went with the HP16. It's been my Goldilocks paddle after playing a 6.0 DBD16 for the past 9 months. The HP16 just helps me play better in all the areas of my game that I needed. If you have the time I'd love to see a Volair FM2 & PIKKLE HP review, or a maybe a standard/wide body comparison video once the Fat Boy, Quartz, and 11Six24 Monarch are all released?
Whatever you do for the colors, make sure they put grit in the paint for the lines so they don't make the ball skid/skip. I don't understand why so many courts have slick lines.
The thing that drew me away from the KTCHN bag is the separate shoe cube. If you attach it to the bag it makes the bag huge. And i don't want to carry it in my hands that why I bought a backpack. One thing to think about is how hot or cold and moisture you get where you live. Black court evaporation rate and heat is higher for cold weather play and light gray is cooler for hot day play.
Love the bag.. Have a magnetic towel that just attaches to the outside magnet.. If you're like Chris you can use the shoe pocket for additional items since you wear your shoes.. It also has a clip in a pocket to attach your keys..😊
Hey! Great podcast! As someone coming from the 14mm Mach 2 Forza, I'm curious about your opinions on the pros and cons of the 16mm M.2.F. vs the Fat Boy. Thanks!
Josh Kim from Spartus has written some very insightful comments regarding the lawsuit (I read them on Reddit). I didn't realize he has such deep experience in law. Love the standard paddle impressions!
Spartus Apollo is only $110 with a military discount. I’m currently running lead tape bottom two sides and top two corners. Think it is 8.9oz after lead, tape, and hesacore grip, and overgrip. Really pleased with it!
The Apollo is my favorite paddle I've ever tried. I have 3 of them now, two of which I alternate using and will not use the third until the other two are worn out. I keep one paddle stock and have weighted up the other. For the weighted paddle, I have 2 grams around 10:00 and 2 grams around 2:00. I also have 4 grams around 4:00-5:00 and 4 grams around 7:00-8:00. I still can't figure out if I like the Apollo better weighted or stock.
Chris, I imagine one of the reasons that USAP felt particularly compelled to go after JOOLA is the fact that the company was pretty much giving the USAP rulebook the double middle fingers in their advertising; after all, they were actively promoting the fact that the paddles exhibit what amounts to a “diving board effect.“ I can’t quote chapter inverse from the USAP rulebook, but there’s something in there that explicitly refers to paddles not exhibiting a trampoline - type effect.
Nice pod today. Some really good info. I love the long reviews but we also want to know how similar paddles play in relationship to each other. I will say that I think the lines will continue to blur moving forward. Standard paddles will move in new and more powerful directions is my bet.
thank you for adding this - great value. I bought an Adidas Excel 6 and use the laptop sleeve for a paddle holder. I think some things these days are over-engineered, but then warrant a huge price. Like when you get a dinner it's really two dinners worth of food but it's how they get away with charging more. 'Merica !!
Chris, loving this comparison video of wide body paddles. I got the Mach 2 Forza 4-5 months ago and LOVE it. Spartus sent me the Apollo to try and I enjoyed it as well but the edge guard started to come unglued in two weeks of play. They sent me a new one but that was a little worrisome. Did you weight your M2F up at all?
My everyday paddle is the Volair M2F, and purchased the 16mm hurricane pro from Pikkl after looking at all its stats. They are not the same in feel. M2F has a more crisp feel and easily be controlled, from a drive to a drop. Hurricane was more plush and has a thunk sound to it. Less control than the M2F. My 2 cents. I'm going back to the Volair as I found the ONE (for now)
About Aizec's experience with vibrations on the Apollo, since there is a gap between the rubber band and the paddle, it acts like a guitar string and it produces more vibration. The owner of Spartus said "The rubber band is a little bit stiffer than others, and if placed too high, there will be a gap between the rubber band and the face, which allows the rubber band to vibrate like a guitar string. It sounds stupid but it's for real." Try removing the rubber band to see if it makes a difference.
I always play my GBPwrE against any Joola G3s. Newcomer to the paddle game, THOMPSON has some new tech that takes on several of the shortcomings most paddles have. Sweet spot size, vibration damening and looks.
The problem with the Joola 3 wasn’t the power. It was extremely difficult to determine the speed of the ball bc it would fly off even with half swings. The trampoline effect hid the actual speed and gave it a massive advantage. At pro level and beginner, the paddle seems to matter very little. Paddle tech seems to matter from 4.0-5.0
I'm looking for a soft paddle with lots of pop, a 5.3-5.5 inch handle and to tier spin. Basically i want the Volair Mach 1, but with more pop and more spin if possible
Ugh!!! How could you not have the Gruvn Muvn-16S or 14-S in this line up?! I was so excited to see the subject of this new video only to be sorley disapointed that you didn't include one the the best standard shape paddles ever made. What the heck guys?!! :(
@@PickleballStudio It's not like there's a ton of standard shaped / wide body paddles that should even make this list. You only talked about a handful anyways and I believe you already tested and reveiwed the Gruvn Muvn-16S and 14-S and I htought you guys really liked it. So, why didn't it make the list?
Hey! Been watching the show for a month or so now. I've started buying a few paddles to figure out what I like and also to teach family & friends. My goal is to have a variety of paddles for others to try out. Here's what I have: Selkirk Luxx - Invikta Selkirk Power Air - Epic Paddletek Bantam TKO-CX 13.7 Vatic Pro Prism Flash 14mm I'm looking to add a couple paddles to the collection in the future. I'm going to skip Joola paddles for now as that's what most of my friends have. What recommendations do you have? Thanks
There are some courts in Crystal Minnesota that have light blue kitchens and around noon. The sun really reflects off of that light blue maybe a darker blue for the kitchen.:-)
Yes, do a review on the Forza Mach 2! Compare to the Apollo. Have you tested using any lead tape with it to get a bit more power? Thanks for all the info!
Matt Wright gotta pro bono the USAP lawsuit. Aizec gotta become a permanent addition to the show, he's blunt, hes not scared to speak his mind about paddles.
I have both the Apollo and M2F 16mm, and for me, the Apollo I like more because of the extra pop (which is very controllable for me). I actually think the spin is slightly better on the M2F, and I think the M2F is slightly better on touch shots like dinks and resets. The Apollo has more power and serves and drives are better.
I have the Apollo and I like it, but this video made me regret not getting the M2F 16 in June when it was on sale for $129. Hopefully I’m not missing much from the M2F compared to the Apollo performance wise.
Loving all the recent discussions about standard shape paddles. Is there a release date set for the Fat Boy? And do either of you know how the pop/power compares to the OG thermos (DBD)?
Be careful making the kitchen too light. Our local indoor place has light blue kitchens and the first two weeks of play there were pretty rough because I kept losing track of the ball during dink rallies. They've gotten dirty since then, so it's a lot easier to see now
Going to give Jack Sock a run for his money in the back end? 😂 Yay, BLO made the video! Golf club grip solution also helps the hesicore slide right on.
Chris, time to review the new upcoming Six Zero Black Diamond 14 mm and the RUBY 14 mm. If people liked the RUBY 16 mm the 14 mm will blow you away. More power, lower swing rate, better twist and super well balanced.
I have a Vatic Pro Prism Flash and am looking to get my first thermoformed paddle. Would you recommend upgrading to an Apollo, Mach 2, or J3K or would it not be a noticeable improvement in play?
So for too much vibration in the handle, do you guys use a different replacement grip or something like a comfort over grip to avoid the vibration. Or is just “O that vibrates” and then you just put it down?
Control+ will give you more offense although it still has good control. The Mach 2 Forza is pure control. Low power and also low pop makes the short game much easier to master.
Hey Guys! Thanks for the podcast! Really informative and entertaining! I have a question, how can I find those wall mounts for the paddles? I’m needing some!
Here’s the easy answer on what to do with your court. Do the actual court in more traditional colors. But do the area surrounding the court, the out of bounds, in the PBStudio colors. Best of both worlds, you get to have your color scheme represented, and get a traditional court.
Your court: Make it fun! Vibrant. Don't be upset with the brightness Over time it fades out.. And be sure to have your contractor focus on building a solid foundation for the court. Worst thing is to start having cracks after 3 years. (Make it part of your warranty! And save the paper work!!!) As much as I like Will as the host and Chris as the cohost, Aizec seems to mesh better with Chris that supports the phrase “Chris is the host and Aizec is the cohost” better 😂😂
Chris, while there's nothing wrong with Patrick (he has a very nice game), if you want to start winning hardware at 5.0, you need to follow Will's lead and start playing with Aizec (he's a stud).
@@PickleballStudio That may be, but nothing's better than playing with family (I just played a couple of tournaments with my daughter, and they were the best tournaments of my life (even though we didn't even medal)). You don't have to play all tournaments together, but once in a while would definitely be fun (both for you two and for us to watch).
In my experience the 16mm mach 2 is great. but the ruby feels similar just better in every way. The dwell and feel of the ruby is better, and the control feel when adjusting for variable ball speeds is far superior... I wanted to like the mach 2 more than the ruby, but frankly just couldnt.
Personal performance (e.g., do you take lessons, drill, practice, etc.) should not be overrun by a paddle that has been engineered to allow a beginner to beat a 4.5 because it has too much ball velocity, power, etc. It’s akin to aluminum bats for high school and college baseball.
Why are there not stiffness ratings on pickleball paddles? Coming from tennis, there’s a stiffness/“RA” rating for every single racquet. I’ve never once had wrist pain in 8 years of tennis until last week. Been playing pickleball for 3 months. This needs to become standard in pickleball ASAP.
I havw volair mach 2 and apollo, i keep going back to volair, for some reason volair hits better for me and ball goes to where i want to send it. Apollo is hella gritty tho. Maybe i need to play with apollo more.. 🦍
Hesacore grips are pretty heavy so they create a headlight balance for your paddle. I think content creators and PB nerds are disregarding paddle balance right now. I know its a metric they account for but I would be curious to see what balance most pros like. In tennis the balance of a racquet matters so much. I find that I like to have my paddle with a heavy static weight and a really headlight balance.
I've noticed one big observation that's very different between Pickleball and PB. In Tennis, if you have a headlight racquet, it's always heavier. For example, 11-12oz ish. If it's a head heavy racquet, it's usually 9-10oz ish. This makes sense, because if it's head heavy, you want to reduce the overall weight, and if it's headlight, you need more overall static weight for the plow through. In PB, we don't have that luxury. Because of how most paddles are made, everything weighs in a similar range. So you aren't going to see a 9oz head light PB paddle and a head heavy 7oz paddle. That's not to say balance isn't important, but when I was doing research it was one big difference that I found. Swinging a 9oz racquet head heavy vs 12oz head light would probably be a huge difference. Whereas in PB, having a 8.2oz paddle vs 8.1oz and the difference in balance is 23.01CM vs 23.65CM, it's hard to know how big of a difference that really is. Still lots to learn about it and for the paddle market as a whole to mature and do more research.
@@PickleballStudio I agree I don’t think it’s as significant as it is in tennis. But I will say that when I heard how much Johnkew was liking the slyce buttcap it made sense. Will a paddle with an already high Swingweight play better if you could add a significant amount of weight suddenly to the buttcap? Theoretically that should give you the plow through along with better hand speed than a stock version. I don’t think static weight matters as much until you get to significantly higher numbers with this. So many questions 😂
I totally feel ur guys pain. I'm a wedding photographer and very particular about my bags. Spent 300ish on my Wandrd Bag and 500+ on my rolling bag. I will definitely check out the kitchen bag.
How many replicates from a company of model "X" paddle, are sent to USAP for approval ? Then specs are sent to China, for example, and mass produced ....Is there ever any sampling of the mass produced paddles to help ensure they conform to the specs that were approved by USAP?
A couple of more serious comments... 1. Once I saw the spelling of Aizec's name, I was more self conscious to write it correctly so I would look it up. 2. Aizec looks like his name - I didn't make the comment, but with the hair he could potentially put out a Native American vibe, so I could see someone thinking "Aztec" 🤷
Next week on The Will and Aizec Pickleball Show, they will be featuring an up and coming paddle reviewer named, Chris Olsen.

Will finally in SoCal. Maybe finally he can get a hand of the Maverix Havik 15 down there
I currently play with the R3 pulsar and would love a review of the fx version!
Damn man Aizecs got some biceps, atleast 4.5 at best 😂
In my experience the 16mm mach 2 is great. but the ruby feels similar just better in every way. The dwell and feel of the ruby is better, and the control feel when adjusting for variable ball speeds is far superior... I wanted to like the mach 2 more than the ruby, but frankly just couldnt.
You have a hesacore on the Volair. So I assume you play with one. Just put one on each paddle you use..😊
love the glasses
Any plans for top 5 bags under $150 ?
Personal performance (e.g., do you take lessons, drill, practice, etc.) should not be overrun by a paddle that has been engineered to allow a beginner to beat a 4.5 because it has too much ball velocity, power, etc. It’s akin to aluminum bats for high school and college baseball.
Could you do a review on the Diadem Icon V2? Please 👍
Can you do the 11six24 All court?
I think the gray would be too bright. At least for the three weeks Minnesota gets sun.
I'd stick with green and blue
I totally feel ur guys pain. I'm a wedding photographer and very particular about my bags. Spent 300ish on my Wandrd Bag and 500+ on my rolling bag. I will definitely check out the kitchen bag.
Hesacore grip is awesome
How many replicates from a company of model "X" paddle, are sent to USAP for approval ? Then specs are sent to China, for example, and mass produced ....Is there ever any sampling of the mass produced paddles to help ensure they conform to the specs that were approved by USAP?
What is the discount code for the bag
Have you ever reviewed the Proton?
I haven't. They've been out of stock for like 5 months.
So if we rank the host and cohosts of the pod, it would be 1- Will, 2- Aizec, the studio in third, which leaves Chris as , you guessed it, 3.5 at best
What paddle category the CrBN X2 falls into?
Standard shape 16” by 8”
Why did you compare the Ronbus R2 and not the R3?
USAP has hired a major high profile lawyer
They are so similar it’s like watching Chris talk to himself 😂
Really, they seem so different personality wise and even look/style wise to me.
