There was a hospital that had a hand washing problem and started having nurses reporting Dr for not washing between patients. Then the Dr.s name was read off during the next staff meeting as a form of shame. This problem went away for them very quickly.
Lea is absolutely right about doping testing, line calling, a ref code of conduct, and sport betting potentially influencing the game. Line calling could easily be resolved with tech. Swing vision already does real-time line calling, and all you need is an iphone. Off-the-shelf free app. Doping testing doesn't need to be outrageously expensive. Test a small random sample of all players and semi-finalists and finalists. Won't eliminate, but strongly discourage. Code of conduct and challenge tracking for refs is a matter of will and organization much more than money. Somebody give this woman a board seat at the PPA!
The line calling tech is very expensive and it needs to be able to move from site to site. The swing vision stuff isn't tested super intensively yet. Drug testing is actually SUPER expensive. Even if done for a limited amount of people. It's much more feasible to get a line system before drug testing
Great pod, I wouldn't say Lea is a whiner she's just not afraid to say what other people are thinking. I've heard other people talking about Adderall more so than steroids. She's right on with the refs. I've been saying for a long time that it looks like they recruit most of the refs from the Golden Corral. She can't say too much about paddles the Joola's are at the center of the controversy right now.
The tech is out there for line calls. 480fps will do it. Just gotta pay for it. Refs "smoozing" is a real can of worms. Lea is spot on for ideas on player feedback of Refs. Flog the "hookers" great idea. Zane showing up in "paintball" protection would be epic. Chris Cali is your man.
Thank you for your time and posting. Saw you Zane several times at St. George but didn't say hi, I figured you need some peace. USAPA is absolutely useless! Zero control on anything above kindergarten pickleball. Lea would make a great pickleball announcer. It is so interesting that you have to say, "Big Pickle", instead of PPA. Pretty sad.
with other racquet sports. the technology of racquets always increased power. the evolution of the ball has to match the racquet technology. In Squash the ball had to be slowed down to protect the integrity of the game. In tennis the ball has changed how the game is played. time to standardize the ball for the pro game, as to protect the game.
Probably too expensive for the league right now. There are a lot more courts to cover at once than tennis. Maybe they will soon for the final brackets or grandstand court only? Its just a matter of time
Agree with Lea on refs. I saw some horrible calls throughout the four days at St. George. Refs literally not looking at the ball, then overturning a call. Saw that a lot. If you noticed at the Championship Court at St. George this last weekend, there were only three cameras, two were stationary. PPA needs to put in line cameras, like MLP. Also, the announcers do not replay line call challenge videos. IMO, the video is so poor on the lines, they don't want us to see them and the refs are 'basically' guessing. Example. Zane, it was so funny when you were playing against Alshon and you were spinning the ball on serve. And the ref never even saw it. Doesn't even pay attention. Alshon asked the ref to pay attention to your serve. It was pretty funny.
Ticket sales determine revenue to pay refs, players, run the PPA and APP, and has been an issue in every sport. Players can earn more income through sponsorship, although I don’t know if pickleball is there yet with their athletes. While venues are sometimes full, they are small. The challenge is building larger temp venues without diminishing the fan experience, for example, sitting too far away. The question is, does pickleball have the paying fan base?
Do the PPA and APP have player councils? If not, they should. The other question is, will the owners of the APP and PPA accept input from a player council? The structure and tested success of the ATP and WTA player councils could be used as a template.
Not Lea saying her having a bad day of singles pickleball is like the death of her dog. Wtf that’s the best comparison you can come up with? She’s either never had a dog or never had one die. Ridiculous comparison.
No. 3 :) Until the players form a union to standardize the rules. To standardize the qualities of each venue. To standardize the perks Pros get at each venue. Etc. The PPA will constantly and forever screw over the players, the viewers, and the fans of this sport. Example. PPA is making a ton of money on the Vulcan Ball and yet, the ball is such poor quality, pros need to use two, three, four balls a GAME. And lets get some ballboys/girls. It is so embarrassing IMO to see a PRO player looking under the bleachers for the ball, bending down, getting on their knees, etc. Think Federer doing this.
Omg first time I’ve ever been remotely called a Karen! That’s truly amazing. Out of curiosity what is to blame here? Doesn’t make much sense as we are talking about topics that don’t seem to set blame lmao
Lea would be a regular on “Hooks Of The Week”. She demonizes Salome yet she’s a terrible line caller. Also, blatant hypocrisy bitching about paddle testing & technology, while lately she’s been absolutely murdering the ball with her new Joola.
The pro sport is at a maturity level and has enough money to invest in automated line call tech. Get it for the prime and secondary court at least so that the quarter finals onward are covered. Past due that Hawkeye or a similar tech is required for pro tourneys. This would be my stance in general, but with gambling in the mix, it is even more imperative.
Stop trying to regulate what the paddle is made of and start caping performance. Top out spin and top out exit velocity and let the tech take us where it may. I want shin guards for rec play. Top power at ALW 12.7 and spin at 2500 as an example.
But aren’t you making the assumption that the person who hits the ball harder than someone else doesn’t gain any power by using the hotter paddle. Relatively speaking, if everyone uses the same technology, the difference in hitting speed stays the same, i.e. harder hitter with old technology is still the hardest hitter with new technology.
I don't understand the dropping off a bunch of paddles and some failing. Aren't they all the same paddle? What differences would cause some to pass and some to fail if it's the same model
Lea had such a rough Singles match at Red, then had to right to dubs and got wrecked. Would like to see her drop one or the other. Diabetes is nothing to push the boundries of.
so after this and watching RedRock , there was lots of successful dinking... but the thought of turning Pickleball into NASCAR won't work. even NASCAR has advantages in the "stock" car. unless everyone plays with the same paddle, and the same ball, it won't ever be the same. even when passing the testing standard...like NASCAR.
Hook of the week segment sounds fun - thanks for the idea
Just realized I haven't ordered your swag... yet. Disappointed in myself. Your show is must see each week
@@Andrew-qm5im you’re the OG viewer - you been watching since day 1
I thought of your pod for this when it was mentioned I was like hmmm this is a job for my friend Chris
I think it will be great if Lea and/or Zane end up on hooks of the week lol.
Really glad Lea decided to play singles again. Love watching her passion and intensity. Tough final in Red Rock...but still almost pulled it out.
Lea played her heart out in heart out in red rock , Even Mary was concerned about her levels for her women’s doubles match with Tina Pisnik
There was a hospital that had a hand washing problem and started having nurses reporting Dr for not washing between patients. Then the Dr.s name was read off during the next staff meeting as a form of shame. This problem went away for them very quickly.
Leah is smart and funny. You need to have her on more!
I could listen to her all day…

Why don’t they have line cameras?

I have twins that are Type 1. You are doing great Lea!

You know you’re always going to get the honest truth from Lea. Great episode guys.
Do the PPA and APP have player councils? If not, they should. The other question is, will the owners of the APP and PPA accept input from a player council? The structure and tested success of the ATP and WTA player councils could be used as a template.
“You’d be wise to shmooze the refs. Spoken like a smarmy businessman”……..That’s gross, says Lea. Good for her. So so gross. Good for Lea. 👏 👏
Love Lea one of my favorites
OMG. Lea is really pretty; a natural beauty. Her look is so different when she's playing in the tournaments.
I didn’t realize she is only in her early30s…Always thought she was over
Love lea, she's tough and great player. I have diabetes and she's an inspiration 🤩
nice ep!
Not Lea saying her having a bad day of singles pickleball is like the death of her dog. Wtf that’s the best comparison you can come up with? She’s either never had a dog or never had one die. Ridiculous comparison.
I’ve had a dog. Who are you to say how I feel or not?
@@LeaJansen_pb lol you’re a joke comparing a dog dieing that is your dog to you having a day day of singles. If that’s true then you’re heartless
Line calls should be very easy fix. Have 3 ref like volleyball, 1 center ref, 2 line ref at opposite corners. Pretty simple
I'm your fan lea. Canadian crazed pb player.
Love Lea!

Lea gives Karen of pickleball vibes sometimes. Blaming everyone but herself. She does make some good points but her attitude doesn't help
Omg first time I’ve ever been remotely called a Karen! That’s truly amazing.

Didn't take long for her to join Irina on the dark side with her juiced up Joola.
Have Lea on more often

Anybody have the number for the paddle, doctor
At 41:36 and 41:53, it sounds like she is saying therafoamed instead of thermoformed. Is that a legit thing?
Zane bringing up Belli... Cubs fan as well?
All Lea does is WHINE WHINE WHINE WHINE
It’s X, no longer Twitter!

Literally, rule 2.E.6.f

Manufacturing inconsistencies. Quality control by paddle makers leaves a LOT to be desired.
The point is they are not the same. There are variations in production between and likely within batches.
Made in China!
Lea had such a rough Singles match at Red, then had to right to dubs and got wrecked. Would like to see her drop one or the other. Diabetes is nothing to push the boundries of.
Why not disqualify a player if any of their tested paddles fail?
I hear a lot of whining here. Lea always paints herself as the victim to some degree. Big Pickle is always watching ... 👀
6:52 she looks like cara delevingne

We all know most of the top players are doing drugs. PPA is trash, a new league needs to be created before the sport goes global.
