(roughly 30-35 minutes in) I think Dave and Adam Stone is the best broadcasting combo because Dave is undeniably the best and most iconic for beginners but Adam Stone goes into nuance and detail that not even the pros go into and says the right things at the right time without overusing phrases
I like the discussion on commentary and teaching strategy. As a fan and rec player I love watching the games and dialing into the dink strategy and when to speed up and where to place and who to target. Over the past couple years of following PPA and MLP I’ve learned a lot just by watching and the hearing the commentators breakdown why the players are making certain shots.
It would be amazing to have mini breakdowns from Dave during stoppages. If Dave had the ability to tell the truck to clip a certain play/shot to touch back on and break down the nuanced game would be huge for fans that would normally miss it.
I think Pickleball should consider doing what the ITTF did for Table Tennis back in 2000. Table Tennis was dealing with pretty much the same issue that Pickleball is having, and the ITTF solution was to increase the diameter of the ball. The goal of the ITTF change was to improve the spectator experience by slowing the ball down and increasing the duration of rally's. Very similar to the situation with Pickleball. If the pickleball was slower then the speed of the paddles would be much less of an issue and it would still allow players to choose a wide range of variation in their own paddle selection.
@@TheDinkPickleball A larger diameter pickleball might also go a long way toward solving the "hot serve" problem. The larger a ball is, especially with a whiffle-ball, the more the air slows it down, so serves which have a lot of air time, will be strongly affected, as will returns which also have a lot of air time.
I find Dave very interesting and insightful when he provides input or commentary on actual play. The last thing we need are more "catchphrases." His many cliches, aphorisms, and trivia are often distracting. Let the game breathe. Don't treat the viewing audience as novices.
Maybe instead of showing the same commercials 10 times an hour they can use that time to go over key shots of the match and explain to newbies what the strategy or execution of certain shots was.
They're not making any more in ad revenue by showing an ad 10 times an hour instead of 5 times an hour. It's only because they have so few ads to show that they repeat them as often as they do.
The serve rules are broken!! That is a fairly obvious statement. It doesn't have anything to do with "de-weaponizing" - I wish people would stop using that term as a reason to change the serve rules! The problem is the current rules are unenforceable, especially at the rec level. The obvious solution is to force everyone to employ the drop serve. Thomas' argument that the drop serve "looks JV" is ridiculous!! I would LOVE to see Thomas try to return Zane's drop serve at The Lab sometime! I'd bet his successful return percentage would be 75% or less! HOW IS THAT JV, Thomas?
Dave is the best commentator. Talks about what paddles, players are using also where players are from, there friendships on and off the court who they hang out with! Great job Dave
All for less power paddles, but the conversation is worthless if we do not adopt technology to measure the actual power of paddles and implement effective testing. If a pro's paddle fails then there must be a penalty for attempting to pass an illegal paddle. It is the company's job to have quality control.
I like Dave but the mark of a good commentator is keeping the dialog fresh, not repeating themselves all the time. As an aside, an interviewer who starts an obvious question with "How important is it ....." should be fired on the spot.
Honest translation for Dave’s political answer about Ben and colin: “Yeah they didn’t try at all and I’m fucking pissed”
Zane - I love the hard questions, that is the whole point of these podcasts, even when Dave takes the 5th

Good suggestion, haven't heard that line of thinking yet.

pretty good suggestion, especially for beginners and slightly larger for everyone else.
This episode was awesome. Thanks Dave ....I just love his catch phrases 🎉😂
👏👏👏

Is that what they do in other sports? Screw the ad money? The tour wouldn't survive

Great pod guys.
Would love to listen to higher level, more detailed commentating for play by play!
Talking during the point is great if you are talking about the actual point. Not okay if they are talking about other stuff.

Dave only kisses the players ass, never criticizes bad behavior or bad play
the first 4 points is almost a 40% of the way home....that's huge.

Got here too soon 😢
If you ain't first, you're last
If DUPR can sponsor my trip to Austin, I will definitely be there to play and learn from you guys ☺️
A Twitch watch party would be easy and pull in a younger demographic

True, we need a way to measure the 'power' before it can be limited
Hey Dave the sport is PickleBALL not "pickle".

Omg I was LOL just on the intro with Dave reading your suggested commentary phrases!😂😂😂😂
What would you add to the mix?
Sorry guys. Love the pod but can't stand listening to Dave's voice nor mannerisms.
You’re in the minority
@nn-NeuralNetwork which is fine..everyone is entitled to an opinion.
