Heidfeld's run in '99 is still the most spectacular. He was tonking it, and you can visibly see that. That car wanted to snap away from him constantly.
Hello Goodwood, please this year show all the timing splits. Please show all the cars. Couldn't you create a series of highlights showing different era's. Fastest car up to 1920, Fastest car up to 1950, Fastest car up to 1970, Fastest car up to 1990, 1990 to present. Thankyou for your hardwork, I'm just some dude from Australia who really appreciates any car from any era......this is a highlight every year for me.......
now THIS is a great video. and all of them are but this one is fantastic. thanks for taking the time. thanks for the festival, would love to see it in person. so much heritage.
Really nice UI elements in the early 2010s and those onboards were amazing. Really would like to see a return to live timing and splits on screen when these things run up the hill.
Watching the marshal encouraging Martin Brundle up the hill is a joy to behold. It's fantastic to let your excitement get the better of you sometimes. 😉
Martin Brundle’s run was amazing to watch live (can’t believe it was 30 years ago 😳) - it was his race car and still set up for Silverstone the week before! It was visibly so much faster, violent and on edge than any of the other cars that day. Infinitely better than watching the current drivers doing donuts 🙄.
So... No one can beat Nick Heidfeld 3rd streak consecutive title with an old F1 car and 6 title by single driver and single manufacturer set by Justin Law! Both are different beast 🔥 You can talk about that boring record breaking car, but for me it's about the driver skillset (shown by their achievements and consistency in Goodwood fest which is Nick's and Justin's)
I never could wrap my head around nick’s record in the formula1 and never thought it could be matched. Also it blows my mind at how powerful these electric and hybrid cars have become they hold many world records now that were previously unmatched. This year 2024…there’s an electric minivan that’s been crushing everything!
That McMurtry is insane. The combo of the unbelievable speed and that wind noise is just incredibly badass. Also, shoutout to Nick Heidfeld for that 1999 run!
I thought at the time the Solus GT was underwhelming, this just confirms that! Those group C jags are something else though, that chasm in technology and they're still quicker!
Never forget an updated McMurtry coming last year, being over a second up on the record and then they took away the timing bc it wasn’t an official run
Today's F1 would likely not better the modern specialist British Speed Hill climb cars like the Gould 59s or Alex Summers DJ Firestorm. I believe like F1 they are also excluded from timed runs at Goodwood

What's the cut off age for F1 cars doing timed runs? I'm sure Oscar or Lando could come close to 41.6 if the MP4/13 was allowed to run again. What about a 2004 f1 car, maybe the Williams? Ferrari F2004?
Seeing & hearing these old F1 cars, just shows how much F1 has gone backwards with the excitement. And lets not mention the Group C era cars against the current Hypercars. Just no contest.
Those group c jags were no joke. Absolute rocket ship even 30 years past its era.
No doubt👏

The crowd’s reaction to the McMurtry says it all. That little thing is a rocket.
I love the rocket exhaust illusion from the fan, makes it look even faster.
Imagine going back to 1999 and showing the video to the F1 team... They would think the Martians made contact, for sure.
