- The 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard Timed Shootout was forced into a slightly different format due to the cancellation on Saturday. The fastest qualified cars ran first, and everyone else was added later. Despite the change this still saw a packed top 10 featuring the very fastest cars of the Festival so far. This included the incredible McLaren Solus GT, Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, Travis Pastrana's Subaru GL Family Huckster, Nissan Skyline GT-R R32 'Calsonic' and more with drivers including Jake Hill, Michael Lyons and Adam Smalley.
This is both parts of the shootout, in full for you to enjoy.

- Yes the format was caused by the cancellation on Saturday and Sunday becoming a bumper day

I know anonymous online commenters can be critical, but they're a vocal minority. We love Goodwood; thank you for uploading the shootout in full so that many people can enjoy it for free. It will certainly inspire the next generation of motorsport enthusiasts.
I find it amazing that you were still able to carry out the rest of the festival despite the horrible weather and cancellation.
Obviously the way the shootout was carried out was impacted by all these events.
I really enjoyed the shootout nonetheless, and again impressive display of resilience and organisation after the unfortunate weather of Saturday
Any reason the sound is off? missing all the screaming engines off the line.

It was my first time being in Goodwood. I was disappointed they didn't do the shootout the usual way: Slow cars first, fast cars last. On the grandstands people were confused and left after the small ceremony.
It certainly is better to have the slower cars first and than the real rippers at the end. Takes alot of the excitement away in the format they just did.
Absolutely, I watch the stream since two years and it was very intense previously but not very much this year. However, after losing the Saturday due to whether, I guess it was the best they could do.
I'm sure the organizers know this, unfortunately the saturday cancellation did throw a wrench in it all.

A limited run special R32 anniversary 2024 model with all CF body and all alloy VR could probably beat the lot - ItalDesign please do it for Nissan.

That R32 hillclimb run by Jake Hill was my favorite this year. He was flying up the track and performed much better than some of the hyper car drivers
yeah definitely wasn’t given enough praise by the announcers. kind of annoyed me how they were tryna compare an early 90s sports car to a cutting edge hyper car 😅

I think the reason for this was the terrible weather all weekend. So In preparation for more bad weather they got the fast cars to run first to not squander their time if the weather turned midway

The editors seemed to have a hard time with it too. Half the cars don't have a time card up, some don't have a description, some are on screen for 2 seconds and then aren't seen again. Much harder to stay engaged with this than previous years.

yup, did my own personal timing and got 39.24
The Shootout was one of my favorite racing events of the year, but these changes are terrible. The broadcasting is trash, most likely due to the format change. Why not start with the slower cars and move up like every other year? Some of the later runs this year only got covered as they were about to finish. Extremely disappointed after looking forward to this all year.
Commentators were great, but there's only so much you can hype up a 90s Nissan when the Solus GT set the fastest time 3 cars in...
@@suitsandstrings2641 I didn't say the commentary was bad. Just the broadcasting. Especially after the only "fast" cars finished and everything else was getting broadcasting either just at the start, or popping in as they finished. Compared to years before it felt very rushed.
@@steve1300 it was probably rushed because of saturdays event being cancelled (which im still upset about because that was the one day i had tickets for). hopefully next year's is a bit better organized

Travis Pastranas “Family Huckster” is one of my favorite cars ever with all that active aero and the Gymkhana he did in it , one of the coolest drivers too. Man that McLaren I’m in Love with tho!
I think for the most part we can agree the Nissan, and the Subaru, stole our hearts.

McMurtry Speirling; I do think his run was slightly faster than his current record. His finished time has been clocked several times between 38.95 ~ 39.03 (Goodwood FOS 2022 Record - 39.081)

@@michaelireland7239 I tried to time the McMurtry my self using only the footage as reverence so it's not 100% accurate but still. I timed it at 00 : 39 : 20 so i was slightly off it seems.
But damn that McMurtry Speirling is something else haha.
fun fact: the Mcmurty Spierling wouldn't even get bronze on the GT6 Goodwood Festival of Speed challenge of the Red Bull X2010 as bronze is sub 38 seconds, gold is sub 31 seconds

Which was only a project as a response / challenge to build the fastest racing car free from all the rules and regulations. And was created only for the virtual racegame GT5 & 6. So the X2010 will not only be the fastest at Goodwood FOS it also would still win every Grand Prix in Formula 1. It's not like it is the very first virtual concept car that could break records if it was produced in real life

That Mini had a 1.3L 4banger and looked like it was flying.
The Morris Mini at 33:20 was MOVING! The thing is so tiny it looks almost like it's going as fast as the beefier race cars.
Swift is an absolute Goodwood legend. You should watch some of the mini races that go on in the Revival events. These minis are no joke lol
I was fortunate enough to be a passenger in a Todd-tuned Mini Cooper S racing car on its way to Cadwell Park some years ago. The speedo was indicating more than 144 mph on a road with a speed limit which was a tad slower than that. [Ahem! 60 mph.] quite an experience. I've liked proper Mini's ever since that day.
BMW have completely lost the plot with their idea of a Mini. The car is way too big. It dwarfs a real Mini; the BMW version of the Clubman is bigger than my Renault Zoe.
I want to see the entire run of each car from start to finish!! The launch of each car and the SOUND of each car accelerating down the first straight is often the best part! Not the commentators pointlessly babbling. No split times? The timing overall sucked. Many of the years past were so much better.
Pastrana's subaru and the Bentley made my day.

9:23 GT-Rs have such a mythical status among millennials like me and the driver Jake Hill. And of an already mythical group the OG Blue R32 stands head and shoulders above the rest. To see it get send up a hill in no holds barred total conviction mode makes me happy for mister Hill and this opportunity for him.

One note tho (there always is): It would be great to get sector times back. There used to be sector times in the Shootout coverage for years up until 2021 I think, but in 22 and 23 they were missing from the coverage. They were always a great help at understanding in the moment how competitive a run was compared to the ons already done.

shame about the shootout for the past 2 years, the timing only seems to work some of the time with no sector splits, and poor coverage of several runs (i.e runs not being independent, or filming a dakar truck of the rally stage instead) the formatting also seemed very strange, i feel like it should’ve been run in age order since we weren’t able to have qualifying but it seems like the fastest cars were sent out first, then a winner declared far too early leaving everyone quite confused
As powerful as the Rimac is, you see it just doesn't have enough downforce and far too much weight. It's unbeatable in a drag race, but it was outside it's element here.
Lol, Rimac Nevera is THE Fastest PRODUCTION Road Legal car at SHOOTOUT !!! Faster than: WRC Rally cars (Factory drivers), Porsche GT2 RS Clubsport, Ferrari 488 Challenge...etc..!! Now imagine what's gonna happen when it's "Inside it's element"!! 🤭

Watching the rally cars was a real treat. Theres something to watching cars with looser suspensions slide around and get next to walls and still put in excellent times that puts a smile on my face.

WOW, que ce soit des anciennes voitures des années 1920/30 ou des voiture plus récentes des années 1980/90 ou 2020, elles étaient toutes incroyable (surtout la dernière, quel missile sol/sol).
C'est la première fois que je vois ce genre de course de côte (petite distance) et j'ai grandement apprécié, chaque pilote était très précis et bien évidemment, Travis Pastrana a fait le show avec ses trajectoires en drift !!!
Pour moi T. Pastrana est l'héritier du grand Mr Ken Block qui regarde les courses de voiture depuis le ciel.

I had to pause at 9:50 for that GTR because I was sure I had seen it before and low and behold.. i have. A few years back at Donnington and the first memory I have of it was how insanely loud it was on the straight! thing screeaaams.
Yeah I think this shootout was made a bit weird by there not being any qualifying on Saturday…

It was missing a bit of the magic, but some of it is because if the weather. Cant expect the Duke or the organisers to change that. Onto another year of development! The touring car shootout is always a fave

300BO is the best intermediate rifle cartridge available. It’s super quiet and reasonably hard hitting subsonic and WAY more powerful than 5.56 when supersonic. Plus it works out of short barrels better than any other rifle round.

Really annoyed me how you just didn’t show a full car racing and possibly missed some parts. The cars were sent out too fast
Not entirely sure why "saturdays cancellation" is a reason for this format? Have all cars wanting to participate, do the shootout as usual, with slower cars first - or just randomise the running order of the cars, so the audience doesn't know what to expect next.
15 minutes in they have awarded someone, despite another 30 minutes of cars running up the hill. Bizarre.

Thanks GRR. 🙂👍 I timed that McMurtry demo at just under 40 seconds. It should have been competing, to compare a modern racing car with some of the petrol-powered racing cars which we still see on tracks.

Thank you all so much for the amazing content that you've provided us for free, I can't speak for everyone else, but I'm super grateful and look forward to watching this video every year, someday I hope to cross the pond and see it for myself. That being said, I hope that on that day when I finally visit, you all will have returned to the traditional lineup, this year's shootout felt haphazard and I just didn't enjoy it as much as I usually have for the last couple years, there was no real feeling of suspense or grandeur. It feels like you felt like you needed to do a shootout to keep us happy, and you were frustrated at the weather and cancellation and just got it over with as quickly as possible, which meant the fast cars going first and hoping the slow cars get a chance to race, but that cuts out the entire build up of emotions, I genuinely didn't care about ANY of the cars because there was no progression, here's a random clipshow of fast cars that you could have found on any other UA-cam channel, sorry, but it's not like I don't care about the cars, you had a Calsonic GTR ffs, it's just so jumbled up that it's hard to root for anyone.
How do I watch WITHOUT commentary, I want to hear these ladies at full song!
