Thomas, I eat a very high wild foods diet where the oxalates are off the charts. I don't have any of the health issues associated with a high oxalate diet. There is clear research now that as long as you consume enough calcium food sources with those meals at the same time that have high oxalates that you form calcium oxalate which is non-soluble and does not absorb in the digestive tract and is simply pooped out. Diversity of vegetables is extremely important and you'll learn this as you get older. I must say that as a 48-year-old, I don't feel my best unless I'm getting 10 to 14 cups of fruits and vegetables a day where a significant portion is also raw. I also don't feel good when I consistently eat meat in the quantities people speak about online these days which is 1 g per pound of body weight. I feel all right if I Spike my protein that high on a single day for days when I'm working out but to consistently eat at 1 g per pound of body weight or higher protein is a lot of meat or a lot of carbohydrates if you're eating a diverse vegetable protein diet. When you get to middle age as a 48-year-old like me, you can very quickly see what's actually working and not working. The youthful body can mask many things.
Your channel is phenomenal and I appreciate you continually adjusting and moving towards the best most accurate picture of health.

Things which make carbs into bodyfat:
      1) polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats,
      2) flax seed,
      3) undereating, diets
      4) high fat diet in long term,
      5) soy,
      6) very high protein diet,
      7) low carb diet,
      8) stress,
      9) most herbs in higher quantities permanently used.
      10) low potassium (lack of fruits, vegetables),
      11) plastics (packaging and so on),
      12) estrogen.
I want to add that when carbs get converted to fat,
people get also a light form of dementia.
Proteins get converted into carbs and then into fat under above mentioned circumstances. Alcohol and other addictions rise from inability to use carbs or lack of carbs (alcohol has a lot of calories, every time you smoke, glucose gets released into blood etc). If the carbs do not get converted into fats or into energy, then you get diabetes and high blood sugar.
If you dont eat at least 1 pound/0,5 kg carbs a day, your body might be eating in one month 2,2 pounds/ about 1 kg of your own flesh (proteins) and would turn those proteins into carb (Minesota starvation experiment). The body takes proteins from your heart, liver, skin, joints, muscles etc. and turns them into carb. Naturally those organs will get sick.
      Sources for every point above:
point 1) youtube channel Fire in a bottle @fireinabottle3410, dr. Ray Peat, point 2) channel Strongsistas with Wendy Sellens, point 3) Minnesota starvation experiment, point 4) Georgi Dinkov, point 5) as point 2 and dr. Ray Peat, point 6) @healthcausesregeneration, channel Strongsistas, Georgi dinkov, Minessota starvation experiment, 7) as point 3, 4, point 8) Georgi Dinkov, Ray Peat, 9) channel Strongsistas with Wendy Sellens, 10) Ray Peat, asian diet, 11) and 12) as points 2, 4, Ray peat.

I drank spinach smoothies DAILY, for years. Lots of chard, sweet potatoes, kiwis, etc. I was vegetarian during much of my 50s and into my 60's. Ohhhh, the oxalate issues. Not one Dr said lay off the spinach, even though I had a 2+ cm kidney stone, mysterious tooth removal, parathyroidectomy, cystic thyroid, cystic breasts with "calcium" deposits, all sorts of arthritis and plantar fasciitis, etc, etc...
Thank you Sally Norton!!! And Thomas!
No more smoothies. I eat meat now....and arugula salads. And real dairy. Still clearing oxalates at 69. Still have that kidney stone, but now is broken in half, and hopefully, with the help of lemon juice, will be disolved before I die!

My Mom is 84 and she is in near perfect health, takes no medications. She ate a salad every day.....took mineral supplements....and did 3-day fasts a few times per year....also no smoking or alcohol .

    • @dan-qe1tb
      @dan-qe1tb 2 місяці тому +1

3 day fasts don't mean a thing. I have family members who ate five times a day who lived to be 100. Not taking medications doesn't mean people are in good health. Being in denial, won't help people who have a number of chronic health problems no matter how many salads they eat. High blood pressure, high cholesterol, and high blood sugar and obesity, all have a genetic component. There's people who need the boost from the medications, no matter how good their exercise routine and diets arse. People who eat proper, well balanced diets don't need mineral supplements. Most of them are in fruits and vegetables.

I love this list! Thank you for highlighting the nutrients in dairy, eggs, and red meat, and including the problem with Oxalates. On a low oxalate diet the body does start clearing them, creating more symptoms sometimes, which I’m experiencing now.
To your point, there are only 3 leafy greens that are extremely high oxalate… spinach, beet greens, and Swiss chard. Most of the greens are low. Easy to swap. A lot of the high oxalate foods can easily be swapped once we know.
I hope more people become aware before their accumulation gets to a point of causing symptoms. It’s so much easier to prevent than it is to fix.

Can you make a video talking all about oxalates in foods and what should be avoided in large quantities. for example many people eat spinach, religiously, what is that actually a bad thing

Im oxalate-overloaded and periodically oxalate - dumping on my road to recovery…
Thanks for the acknowledgment of oxalate awareness!
Anyone new to the topic, its worth learning about because,
You can’t feel the painless buildup until you have a serious issue. They accumulate in the body as crystals… not just in kidneys as kidney stones.
Sally Norton and Elliot Overton are good to hear on the topic. 😎

and how do you know you're overloaded with oxalates?

  • @gmo709
    @gmo709 2 місяці тому

Yes...hard to overeat quality food, real food. And inflammation can come from certain foods or fake ingredients or refined oils or wear and tear or being metabolically unhealthy or poor sleep and stress. And cooking greens reduces oxalates. Those r more of a problem if u dont cook the high oxalate vegetable. And eat a variety of fruits and vegetables...for the 5 defense systems. Different foods help different health defense systems. This is huge... angiogenesis, regeneration, microbiome, DNA protection, and immunity. You need to eat foods that help...fight disease. So I would really add that info ab the 5 health defense systems. Being healthy is the key to looking lean or looking healthy. Gotta talk ab the defense systems here. That is a must.

Electrolytes are a supplement I believe in. I find it strange that we have to supplement magnesium and potassium as humans and wish people would dive more into this, but I guess I'll just take them and feel good.

14:15 - _ALL_ I see on EVERY ONE of your Thrive Mkt ads is a scroll-down of PROCESSED health ("health" - ?) foods - for marked-up prices, always, DESPITE the false sales pitch of "cutting out the middle-man (distributor) and retail markups."
"WHERE'S the _beef"_ (the WHOLE food items) - ?????
Other than that ongoing sponsorship deception (which I'm glad pays you - but at our expense), this was ANOTHER solid video - a very meaningful collection of lots of the most valuable things we should know. 👍 But beware, people, of what should become clear to be an obvious membership trap... to ALL OF US.

Time is relative and our experience of it is even more and the older we get the faster it goes by.
Life after 70 is rarely especially fulfilling even if you're exceptionally healthy.
Our only hope is the after life - that's a fact so everyone should take that into consideration when trying to do their best on longevity.. don't get it confused - you will die eventually and even if you do your best it could be earlier than you think.
Take care of yourself but also remain truthful and don't be blinded by all of this information.

The claim that oxalates aren't cleared from the body and remain indefinitely is not accurate. Oxalates are naturally processed by the body and excreted through urine and feces. In healthy people, oxalates do not accumulate permanently. In kidney disease or primary hyperoxaluria, the body may struggle to clear oxalates effectively but even in these cases, oxalates are eventually excreted, though they may build up temporarily.
Maintaining hydration and consuming calcium-rich foods can help reduce oxalate absorption.

The fear of oxalates is strong with this one. Mr. DeLauer states categorically that our bodies don't clear oxalates and insinuates that they build up and will cause problems later. But the fact is, in most healthy people, the kidneys filter them out, and also the colon. Yes, some people have difficulty clearing oxalates. Some people have terrible allergies to peanuts and dairy. But that is not most of us.
