New Ball Joint Set from 1AAuto.com trq.video/ia-1...
Car and truck suspensions combine a number of moving parts for safe and stable handling. The ball joint is the crucial moving component that ties those parts together. The ball-in-socket joint can wear out and loosen over time. Or, the rubber protective boot can tear, allowing contaminants to seize the joint. Bad ball joints are a common failure point on vehicle inspections because they lead to unsafe driving conditions. Fortunately, they are relatively easy to replace with the right know-how. This video shows you how to install new, quality TRQ ball joints on your 2009-2015 Toyota Prius.
This repair was done on a 2014 Toyota Prius and the process should be similar on the following vehicles:
2010 Toyota Prius
2011 Toyota Prius
2012 Toyota Prius
2013 Toyota Prius
2014 Toyota Prius
2015 Toyota Prius

@1:14 (removing the axle nut with an impact wrench) - Don't use an impact wrench on a CV axle hub nut if you plan on reusing the CV axle because it can damage the CV joint.
Break the nut loose with a long breaker bar while the car is on the ground. @ 2:00 (removing the outer tie rod end) - You *can* get away without doing that if you remove the two bolts holding the knuckle to the strut.
I agree with @ romaianguy. You absolutely DO NOT need to do anything with the axle. Take off the two lower nuts snd lower bolt. Remove cotter pin or safety clip, remove upper main ball joint nut, use the spreader fork. Put a 4x 4 piece of wooden block between the axle and the lower control arm and slide in a flat type crow bar. Spread the lower arm open, remove the old BJ, drop in the new BJ, and install lower nuts snd bolts. Use a jack on BJ to engage the taper, tighten up the main upper nut and install the safety clip or cotter. Done. Most people on here don't own a impact gun, nor do they need it. You want to be a mechanic, show everyday people how to do a job with the assumption that they don't have an automotive repair shop. If they do, they probably don't need a video.
+@gmyatko We appreciate the feedback. Sometimes there are multiple ways to accomplish the same repair. 1aau.to/m/Shop-TRQ
Thanks for your video. I really appreciate your hard work.
Great video❤
Thanks for your video! Really helped me when I was in a pinch
This is not the same as the 2009 Toyota Prius that I am working on. The wheel hub assembly protrudes out past the castle nut so you cannot get a socket on it. It only has room for a open ended 19mm wrench and the castle nut breaks apart before you can get it loose.
Good job
But why didn't you use a wrench instead of removing the CV axle??
Presente en clases excelente trabajo cordial saludo desde Navoyork Sonora México
Great job 👏
What if the nut is stripped, how do I get it off? Thanks a lot
How much would this cost in 2024 Southern California? Any idea????
You can do this job with literally half the steps lol
2016 prius may have different from this one?
If you used a wrench on the ball joint nut there'd be no need to remove the tie rod and axle nut
There's not enough clearance above the ball joint nut to fit a box end wrench, nut even if there was, the flats on the OEM castle nut aren't very tall and the slots in the castle nut cause it to deform more easily than a regular hex nut. It takes an impact wrench and a 6-point socket to get that ball joint nut off.
👍😀
If i had most of these tools I would do it but you basically just showed me not to lol
