To be fair, the arc where Toriyama had the most freedom, the buu arc, also happens to be the one people generally agree is the worst. Toriyama's various editors are hardly villains imo.
I totally agree with the reasoning of this list. Zamasu is a very interesting villain, even if he's one you love to hate. He and Goku Black did a lot of damage and the design for both of them is amazing. Merged Zamasu is a terror to behold and the Super Saiyan Rose that Goku Black achieves is both elegant and menacing at the same time. Also, really opened my eyes on how successful Dr. Gero has actually been. Like my goodness...
@@wolfgod6443 Maybe not, but they were one of the very first Dragon Ball villains. And they are the reason Dr Gero and his androids came to be. And wish or no, they were still a force to be reckoned with. And while Red's wish to be taller seems dumb, it didn't stop Frieza from wanting a similar wish in the Broly movie.
@@BBBHuey Oh yeah they're important, I'm just saying they'd be somewhat of a side note. For all that power, they were still complete failures unless you count Gero himself as winning for them in the end, but by then his goals had shifted compared to Red's, or even Officer Black's. And yeah, they failed utterly and Blue and Tao had small victories but are at best on par with King Piccolo, nothing more. ...Dang you got me, I guess there is quite a bit to talk about, but the conclusion still stands.
@@wolfgod6443 It just feels wrong that one group of Goku's enemies are ignored because they aren't god-level villains or planet busters. Prior to his training in Korin's tower, Goku did have some genuine close calls with them.
Well because not many people started watching dragon ball and then go to z. And so he was being safe betting by not adding them since many people haven't watched it.
Those are indeed good choices and really all they need is some changes in their character design and the story lines and story arc as far as android 21 or in other words giving them the broly treatment after it worked for broly so it will work for them as well.
Perfect Cell: While I admire your compliments, your placement of me is quite disappointing. Though I do have some catharsis at beating out King Piccolo. Losing to him on the popularity chart was a big shame.
05:47 I'd love to see a "Return of Demon King Piccolo" Arc though where some crazy cultist brings him back with the Dragon Balls or he escapes Hell. It'd cause such confusion for the younger characters (including even Gohan and Videl!) as to why "Mr. Piccolo" is acting so bad...
It's funny you mention that, someone told me that apparently there was an idea for an arc in GT that brought King Piccolo back. And he was going to fuse with Piccolo Jr.
Barely mentioning Majin sage here is a big insult, as it was one of 3 biggest sagas in Z, even Babidi was worth to mention, he got his goal with bringing Buu to life, he takeover Vegeta mind sort of etc...
Crazy how strong and unstoppable a guy like Demon King Piccolo looked back in the day, but then you technically have guys like Beerus and Moro out there too 😅
Lapis and Lazuli were most successful villains, which you didn't even mention, in Future Trunks timeline they completly got their goal, which was there to cause complete destruction and death to pretty much everyone. In our ark it would be prolly same, if not involving by using time machine. Lapis had goal also to fight with Goku and best him, which he sort of achieved in GT, if not Lazuli involvment, he would easly win.
Nice Cats reference during the Frieza segment dude! Also mentioning resetting the Universe during the Zamasu segment brings to mind a certain Jojo Villain (Pucci)
Great listing, but I'm curious, in which place do you put the Red Ribbon Army? They are a threat, but didn't archieve their goal of World Domination/a taller Commander Red. On the other hand, there are Dr. Gero with his androids, that proves, that the Red Ribbon Army wasn't finished.
I actually like Zamasu from the start, however he grew on me like a fine wine, he started off as good but not great and has become my favorite Dragon Ball Villain.
I still give it to Frieza in terms of longevity; he's still dangerously close to redemption, but he did rule a big part of the galaxy for a substantial time. Cell and Gero suffered from longetivity: they didn't last long despite accomplishing most of their goals. Freeza basically has a reign of terror for years, then keeps coming back. He's the most persistent and is more than just a planetary power player. Ironically, this is from a lack of effort or strategy from the most part: he just has inherent political and physical power that keeps him the game and makes him a galactic player, not just a planetary one. Zamasu does do more in terms of scale, but there's difference between influence and direct control; he wasn't an emperor by any means. there's a story: where did King Cold come from and what happened to his empire after his death?
There's a really long dialogue in Xenoverse 2 which explains Zamasu's ultimate goal. Basically his goal was to rid the multiverse of all mortals and recreate it to his own Eternal Age.
The plan Zamasu had was that only the gods and higher realms should exist that was his plan mortals are all potentially corrupted or could be corrupted so the only way to get rid of that corruption was to simply get rid of the ones being corrupted
Cell is easily the best villain in my opinion. He had one goal: to test himself in his perfect form against the strongest. Zamasu/Black started off great but just ended up being a whiny unhinged dork. Frieza is just annoying at this point, like a freaking Power Rsnger villain. Buu didn't really have a purpose other than follow orders and start mess, especially after Majin Buu went solo. Jiren was the most generic bland nonsense I've seen in a while in all of anime.
Minus King Piccolo, the list of villains I like from least to best is the complete opposite of this list. I get that this isn't what the list is about, but I thought it was worth mentioning.
You have to remember in a different timeline without the years long warning Geros plans straight up worked and the Cell from that timeline would likely have eventually woke up and gained his ultimate form.
You know if you consider in the original timeline the Androids wiped nearly everything out forcing Bulma to invent time travel Dr Gero really was one of the most successful villains.
Probably would have been worth mentioning future 17 & 18. Either as an achievement (or failure?) of Gero, or on their own. Yes, they were eventually defeated by Trunks, but they wiped out almost everyone on the Dragon team and had the world under their thumbs for quite some time.
I feel Nappa should be here. He is directly/indirectly personally responsible for the deaths of more Z fighters then anyone else. (If you discount Buus global elimination. But since Buu doesn't count...)
I expected Jiro, I didn't expect Zamasu. Also I'm surprised Dabura, Babidi etc didn't even get a mention, I wouldn't've expected them to do that well but I'm still surprised they weren't here.

what about Babidi? and for me Cell should be on bottom of the list, I mean what would he really do if he won and destroyed Earth durning final showdown with Gohan? float forever in space?
Goku Black is also the best villain because he is one of the few characters to have used the Dragonballs in such a good way. While being a weak god, he used a power that was mostly used for a good purpose (The dragonballs) and not only he used them, but he also used them three times. Damn, he even got rid of the Gods of Destruction and the Angels. And he gave us the death of two supporting characters, who won't reappear again (Future Bulma and Future Yajirobe)
Speaking of "Evil Goku's" how about "What-if Ginyu won and stayed in Goku's body?" I'd think it might only be a one-off, but still it has the potential to be a good story.
HEY MASAKO!!!! I got a "What if" idea for you! Hear me out...remember that time in Dragonball super where Frieza successfully destroyed the Earth? Yea I know Whis just fixed the issue but what if he didn't? What if Frieza destroyed planet Earth successfully, Whis did said Frieza survived so it will be pretty interesting to see what's gonna happen.
I would put Frieza under Zamasu because in Revival of F, Frieza became more powerful than Goku and he did technically succeed in getting his revenge on him by destroying Earth. It was only due to divine intervention (Whis reversing time) that Frieza lost.
If we could judge Frieza by Resurrection F alone, he would probably be the worst. He had no hope of winning. Imagine going back for a grand revenge and you're so weak compared to your enemies individually that they take turns to kick your ass! He was a golden training dummy.

There was a movie called Path to Power from 1996 which also tells the story (though with a ton cut out and combining events). Or did you mean Berserk, which dates back to the 1980s-90s and had an anime series and 3 movies detailing much of this? And all of this is mentioned in a reply to a comment about Berserk.
