Spinnaker Hull Long Term Review: Can This Cushion Case Watch Replace Pricier Italian Divers?

- In This Episode: We take a detailed look at the Spinnaker Hull Riviera - an affordable cushion case watch with its own design and flavor. I had this watch on loan for a little bit, so this is a long term review of my experience in daily wear. This watch follows in the design language we're familiar with from Panerai, but Spinnaker have given us an affordable Panerai alternative watch. Unlike many other timepieces in this style, I feel Spinnaker have added their own flavor to this genre of watch - making it different enough that they are a good affordable Panerai Luminor alternative or affordable Panerai Radiomir alternative. It has a unique 3 dimensional dial design that draws me in, and it has proportions that make it the perfect size watch for any wrist.

Great video, Kasper. And I agree 100% with both the pros and the cons that you mentioned. As the lucky fella that ended up adding this piece to my collection, I gotta say that I adore this watch. I can't really explain why, but when I put it on my wrist, there's an immediate smile on my face. #Keeper4Life (but, yeah, imma swap out that strap for real, hahahahaha)

I've got the Hull California volcanic black version and it is awesome for the price.
I missed the sapphire crystal on it but anyway I'm still very happy with the purchase.
Cons: the crystal is too expose and is very fragile
Great review my friend. Panerai is an interesting brand and one that is growing on me. This watch doesn’t do it for me. I like the case design but the QC, band, and lack of sapphire crystal is disappointing. Small constructive criticism: consider showing as many watch stats as possible in the opening summary. List the crystal type, all dimensions, price, etc. Overall, great job!
I tend to agree with you. Drop the price a bit, and the QC/strap/etc. issues are acceptable. I think there's a strong case for this watch picked up off the used market.
Love the idea of more cushion case watch designs out there. But I’m not sure this one does it for me. Definitely not a panerai knockoff though
I'm surprised more companies haven't figured out a unique way to leverage the case idea within their portfolios without copying Panerai.

I like your video, as ever. Not certain I agree with your conclusion. There are some entry level microbrands who do get the QC right. I would keep looking for an interim before you can get your grail

@@GHOSTwatches Parnis is the most obvious, especially the Marina Militare. However, Steeldive seems to be drawing up a lot of attention recently. I personally haven't seen a Steeldive but they seem to be out of the same factory as San Martin who do some very cool stuff.
I tend to shy away from watches that carbon-copy originals, much like Parnis do. Nothing against them, but it seems they copy more than they create original designed for themselves. Steel dive also looks to be a similar drop-ship type watch. I once bought a parnis MM style watch. Felt like I was wearing a fake. I think Panerai even took them to court and won against them using the MM name. Not my proudest watch purchase. Quickly got rid of it.
I believe the early versions of the Spinnaker hull flew a little close to the sun as well. These new versions have a lot more originality and unique design. It’s why I feel comfortable reviewing them now.

There is a thin line between this and a ripoff, not sure what to think. I like this watch a lot, but it looks so much like a Panerai.
Nice review but your hand movement seem erratic and awkward. Maybe calm those down.
