This is an excellent in depth review. To me the long term reviews are much better than new machine reviews as it actually gives some information on long term reliability. Overall it looks like your machines have held up very well but you also do a great job of maintaining them. It's amazing how well these machines hold up with the beating they take on the rough terrain. Can't wait for the next video!

Just purchased a 22 Grizzly last year, loving it so far. Can't beat that yamaha reliability. My buddies were giving me the gears why I didn't go with a outlander 850 or somthing similar. I rode my friends brand new 850 xmr and wasn't all that impressed. When they weigh 1000lbs dry, it's not that fun in my opinion. I have over 6,000 miles on my 22 and haven't done a thing except change the oil and filter. Still runs and rides like new. Love the Grizzly most reliable quad made.

You guy's sure do make some great videos. My first machine was a 2002 Grizz 660. It was a great all-around machine. I plowed tons of snow with mine. I sold it in 2012 and went with a Can Am Commander 800 XT. It didn't do what I wanted and traded it in 2015 for a new Ranger 800 6x6. It's a beast and does everything well. My local Fire Dept. wants it so before it gets any older I decided to sell it to them. So now I'm back to looking for another machine. I missed having a quad so the two I'm looking at are the 23 Grizzly 700 or a 23 Polaris Sportsman 850 Ultimate Trail Edition. I'll be test riding both in the next week. Trail riding, hunting and plowing snow are what my main uses are for having one. I have a 2022 JD tractor to do most everything else. Again, great videos! Thanks for sharing!

These are great units. I had guy pick mine up , because he wanted to buy it . He said he put 1/2 a mile on it and it quit running. I had just put a new starter and changed the oil a filter. After 3 months I asked to pay me and he said his mechanic said they were hard to work on. I picked it up and it was locked up and the engine oil was below the dip stick. He put at least 30 hours on it. He sent me a video of the odometer that he said he took( he does not know that the video he sent me is one I took and placed on fb sell site). I changed the oil at every 50 hours and the unit ran beautifully . I pulled your video to see how to read the odometer. My bike is currently at the Yamaha place . They are going to send me the new odometer readings.
As always I enjoy your videos and I especially have interest in your breakdown/how to videos. The only thing i dont enjoy is the urge your giving me to go find a similar Grizzly lol. You also seem to be the type of person i want to sit down with and just pick your brain because you seem to have alot of knowledge, take care and ill see you on your next video

It’s great that you have got that many miles on it with very lil trouble and my 06 Rhino was tough it even held up after I put a 6” original first generation Gorilla lift with the brackets that drop the original A-arms down to 6” lower, I put over 2500 miles on it
@@kcatv9556 I changed out the stock Rhino CDI unit for a Grizzly stock CDI which added about 5 hp to it because for some reason Yamaha thought they should downgrade the power of the Rhino. Shoot that big heavy thing needed all the power it could get even when it is totally stock
You sure got the miles on that unit ! I liked that you played with the engine lol If Q didn’t buy a new machine every 5 yrs he probably could get some elkas , instead of talking about it lol . I’m sending mine in for a rebuild in the following months . Good video I enjoy hearing about others units and the issues or no issues

My 2014 Griz has a better build quality then my 2022 Griz. Mine are all stock with no problems what so ever with most of my trails are rock and old mine tailings.. I enjoy all your videos so keep up the good work. Its time to come up North to WI for some riding. That state does a good job in providing miles of trails up by the big lake.

I have the same year model as you except in camo , most reliable there is out there I have 9000km of pulling fish hut, mudding,hunting, pit riding,probably 2000km of wheelies in that 9000km lol. Only had to change 2 rear axels a drive shaft seal ,2 4x4 switches,brake pads and I just bought a new battery today so in my opinion toughest bike out there considering what I've put it through. Oh yeah I've even sunk it twice and it's still going strong compared to any of my buddies Polaris, can am ,brute force quads that haven't been through half of what my grizzly has and their bikes are broken all the time with crazy repair costs

You've kept that thing in good shape. I'm thinking if you put the Yamaha gear oil back in your rear end, your leak will disappear. But then again, you're a mechanic and I'm not, so what the hell do I know - LOL I'd love to try those Elka shocks, but I can't justify the price. Nice looking machines KC! I was considering trading in my 22' Outlander 650 for a new Grizzly but I've already done a few big updates(Elka S3 shocks, MBRP Exhaust, RJWC Nutrino headlights, cargo box, Tessaract gas tanks, skid plates, etc...) to it so I'll stick it out for a couple more years and see how it goes. I'm the same way with tinkering and maintaining all my vehicles/power machines. I've been burned having others work on them. It would be last resort or warranty work. I have a double car garage but not a nice big shop with a lift like yours...very jealous btw! I am now using full synthetic (Amsoil severe gear oil) in both diffs and the trans. For the engine I've gone with the Penzoil Platinum 5w40 full synthetic. I use the same oil in all my vehicles (different weights of course) and it's great. Way cheaper than the ATV oils ($8/L vs $18-$25/946ml(Quart)) and I change it every 30 hrs(gear/trans oils will be every 60hrs). I don't have any wet clutch in the Can Am so I don't need the premuim ATV specific oil. I'll be starting a channel soon so I'll introduce my ride as the first video. Take care! Cheers!

Great video! I have a 14 and a 19. Both purchased in the last year with only 30 hours on them. If you replace those rear axle seals I would probably go ahead and replace rear wheel bearings and those bushings. And use one of those special tools to grease the wheel bearings. How often did you grease those rear bushings? I want to pull those knuckles and add the 45 degree zerks and grease the wheel bearings in at least my 19.
Hey factionfx, Haha how did you know. LOL yup be sure and check out the next couple of videos where I do the rear axle seals, wheelbearings, front brake pad replacement. I greased those rear arms after every ride. The kind of conditions we ride in though the water still got in there. Yes I did buy one of the wheel Bearing Packers and will be packing the new. I fabricated that bracket myself. You can use old hand guards for the clamp bracket to fit on the handlebars and then you can fabricate onto that for different mounts. Hope that helps you out. Thanks for checking out the video.
Hey Redd Foxx, that’s a great question I sure would like to have the twin but, with the type of riding we do not very often I would get to open it up. Man that's impressive. The synthetic oil leaking thing I have always heard myself. I run full synthetic in everything on my machine though. Any particular reason why you prefer a radial tire? I've always used standard non-radial tires so I have no experience with radials. When I was shopping for tires I was after the same thing you were, the least amount of weight but still a decent tread pattern for trails NOT MUD RIDING! After a ton of research I settled on CST Ancla's. I'm very happy with my decision. They have a nice stiff sidewall and get great traction in all terrains. Plus there's no vibration even on pavement, nice and smooth.
Hey Buddy, I prefer radial tires for the ride quality. They soak up the bumps much better than a bias ply tire. The older you get the more you need something that rides smooth. LOL Thanks for checking out the video!
I believe ITP Holeshot ATR's are lighter. Claimed weight: fronts are 16.5 lbs the backs are 23 lbs. I just weighed my new ones mounted on oem spun alum. wheels, similar to yours. Mounted fresh: fronts 22 lbs 9 oz, rears 30 lbs 14 oz.

@@kcatv9556 Yes they are the Renegade tires. The Bighord 2.0's, Maxxis Zilla's, and Quadboss 672's are among the lightest. I get a little obsessed with tire weights. I'm eager to try the atr's in the spring.

Going to be replacing the front and rear axles soon just because the boots are torn in the rear and letting mud and water in them and starting to make noise when turning sharp..
@@RHWMUSIC-1 I tore a boot last year on the rear axle myself. I installed a new boot with grease, but it is starting to make noise when turning sharp as well. Yep, I will probably be putting axle in at some point too. Thanks for checking out the video, my friend!
Have you had any problems with your LED bulbs. I had a yamaha dealer tell me they don’t sell LED bulbs because vibration breaks them. What bulb are you using.
They are actually HID bulbs with a starter ballast. I’ve had no issues with them work perfectly. I done a video on the install of them a few years back. You can look back through my channel and find that video if you would like. Thanks for checking out the video and commenting much appreciated!
Yup I hear ya mine do have a couple of cracks in them. I repaired them with a piece of sheet metal on the backside and some rivets. Wish they would have made them out of some flexible plastic and not something that would crack. Thanks for checking out the video. Much appreciated!

Do you do break ins on your machines? A buddy of mine says you should break it in like you ride it. Any truth to that?? Don’t want to destroy my brand new machine
Yes, when our machines were new, I rode them a little bit easier than I normally would during the break in. Period. Oft and on the gas a little bit to get all the gears worn in also did not do high RPM right off the bat. Hope that helps you out. Thanks for checking out the video.
@@SmarOneNine congrats on getting a new quad. When we bought our machines, It was our first brand new ATVs as well. I would recommend changing the engine oil at 30 hours for the first couple of times. Also, I just ran the standard non-synthetic basic engine oil from Yamaha or Honda. Then after that, I went to a more expensive synthetic. Other than that just take it easy on it for the first little while, you should have good luck with it. Thanks again for checking out the vid.
I had the 2016 Grizzly 708. Machine gave me nothing but problems. Most unreliable machine I've bought new. Actually the most unreliable machine I've ever had. You name it I had those problems. I should have bought a king Quad or at least the base model Kodiak for 6,400. I'm currently riding a 21 CFMOTO cforce 800 XC so far that Chinese tank has been more reliable and faithful.

@@kcatv9556 The 708 motor will eventually give out on you. There's a lot of problems with that motor. If that 4x4 switch engages at a high speed you'll blow your differential. I did. Canada force Yamaha to stop producing that motor. Rather than recall it. Yamaha just canceled the contract with Subaru for making it and went back to the Yamaha 686. Way cheaper than build what most customers are asking for. I've wanted a Grizzly since Yamaha started making them. Finally got financially stable to pull the trigger and I got stuck with a lemon. It is what it is. The only way I'm buying another Yamaha new from a dealer is if Yamaha put the 850 in the Viking. Hell I'll settle for a 700 v-twin or anything bigger. The 686 in the Viking isn't big enough for me. At this point in my life. My wife and I would like a side-by-side but I want a 2" lift with 28" or 29" tires and have plenty of power to pull that machine under a load as well as play. I love what Yamaha has to offer other than the Grizzly and Viking being left behind in the power house lineup. Sorry I ranted on you. You currently have had better luck with the 708 than I. I hope it continues for you Sir.

I have the same year model as you except in camo , most reliable there is out there I have 9000km of pulling fish hut, mudding,hunting, pit riding,probably 2000km of wheelies in that 9000km lol. Only had to change 2 rear axels a drive shaft seal ,2 4x4 switches,brake pads and I just bought a new battery today so in my opinion toughest bike out there considering what I've put it through. Oh yeah I've even sunk it twice and it's still going strong compared to any of my buddies Polaris, can am ,brute force quads that haven't been through half of what my grizzly has and their bikes are broken all the time with crazy repair costs

You've kept that thing in good shape. I'm thinking if you put the Yamaha gear oil back in your rear end, your leak will disappear. But then again, you're a mechanic and I'm not, so what the hell do I know - LOL
I'd love to try those Elka shocks, but I can't justify the price. I could probably buy a new engine for the cost of those things - LOL

Nice looking machines KC! I was considering trading in my 22' Outlander 650 for a new Grizzly but I've already done a few big updates(Elka S3 shocks, MBRP Exhaust, RJWC Nutrino headlights, cargo box, Tessaract gas tanks, skid plates, etc...) to it so I'll stick it out for a couple more years and see how it goes. I'm the same way with tinkering and maintaining all my vehicles/power machines. I've been burned having others work on them. It would be last resort or warranty work. I have a double car garage but not a nice big shop with a lift like yours...very jealous btw! I am now using full synthetic (Amsoil severe gear oil) in both diffs and the trans. For the engine I've gone with the Penzoil Platinum 5w40 full synthetic. I use the same oil in all my vehicles (different weights of course) and it's great. Way cheaper than the ATV oils ($8/L vs $18-$25/946ml(Quart)) and I change it every 30 hrs(gear/trans oils will be every 60hrs). I don't have any wet clutch in the Can Am so I don't need the premuim ATV specific oil. I'll be starting a channel soon so I'll introduce my ride as the first video. Take care! Cheers!

Great video! I have a 14 and a 19. Both purchased in the last year with only 30 hours on them. If you replace those rear axle seals I would probably go ahead and replace rear wheel bearings and those bushings. And use one of those special tools to grease the wheel bearings. How often did you grease those rear bushings? I want to pull those knuckles and add the 45 degree zerks and grease the wheel bearings in at least my 19.

I greased those rear arms after every ride. The kind of conditions we ride in though the water still got in there.
Yes I did buy one of the wheel Bearing Packers and will be packing the new.

Where did you get that bar for your tach gauge? What is the bar called?
I fabricated that bracket myself. You can use old hand guards for the clamp bracket to fit on the handlebars and then you can fabricate onto that for different mounts.

Man that's impressive. The synthetic oil leaking thing I have always heard myself. I run full synthetic in everything on my machine though. Any particular reason why you prefer a radial tire? I've always used standard non-radial tires so I have no experience with radials. When I was shopping for tires I was after the same thing you were, the least amount of weight but still a decent tread pattern for trails NOT MUD RIDING! After a ton of research I settled on CST Ancla's. I'm very happy with my decision. They have a nice stiff sidewall and get great traction in all terrains. Plus there's no vibration even on pavement, nice and smooth.
Hey Buddy, I prefer radial tires for the ride quality. They soak up the bumps much better than a bias ply tire.
The older you get the more you need something that rides smooth. LOL

Mobil 1 synthetic suppose to have additive in it to treat the seals., I don't know if that helps with leaks though

I believe ITP Holeshot ATR's are lighter. Claimed weight: fronts are 16.5 lbs the backs are 23 lbs. I just weighed my new ones mounted on oem spun alum. wheels, similar to yours. Mounted fresh: fronts 22 lbs 9 oz, rears 30 lbs 14 oz.

@@kcatv9556 Yes they are the Renegade tires. The Bighord 2.0's, Maxxis Zilla's, and Quadboss 672's are among the lightest. I get a little obsessed with tire weights. I'm eager to try the atr's in the spring.

The factory always seems to put a really light tire on them and then when you change and put aftermarket tires on the machine never feels the same.
How about itp Terra cross those are radials and can am puts those on stock, my guess is those are pretty light as well.

I have a 2015 grizzly 700 efi and have had to replace nothing but the battery and brakes once still runs like new and has 5,600 miles
Going to be replacing the front and rear axles soon just because the boots are torn in the rear and letting mud and water in them and starting to make noise when turning sharp..

@@RHWMUSIC-1 I tore a boot last year on the rear axle myself. I installed a new boot with grease, but it is starting to make noise when turning sharp as well. Yep, I will probably be putting axle in at some point too.

Have you had any problems with your LED bulbs. I had a yamaha dealer tell me they don’t sell LED bulbs because vibration breaks them. What bulb are you using.
They are actually HID bulbs with a starter ballast. I’ve had no issues with them work perfectly. I done a video on the install of them a few years back. You can look back through my channel and find that video if you would like.

Man I have no idea how you’ve kept your footwells from blowing apart. My footwells are toast after 1,500mi. I guess I just take some unlucky hits.
Yup I hear ya mine do have a couple of cracks in them. I repaired them with a piece of sheet metal on the backside and some rivets. Wish they would have made them out of some flexible plastic and not something that would crack.

Weak point in those diff seals on grizzlies, I changed bunch of them and using yamalube.
Yeah, I imagine I’ll have to replace them again at some point.
I’ve been lucky with the Kodiak, they haven’t started leaking yet.

Do you do break ins on your machines? A buddy of mine says you should break it in like you ride it. Any truth to that?? Don’t want to destroy my brand new machine
Yes, when our machines were new, I rode them a little bit easier than I normally would during the break in. Period.
Oft and on the gas a little bit to get all the gears worn in also did not do high RPM right off the bat. Hope that helps you out. Thanks for checking out the video.

@@SmarOneNine congrats on getting a new quad. When we bought our machines, It was our first brand new ATVs as well.
I would recommend changing the engine oil at 30 hours for the first couple of times. Also, I just ran the standard non-synthetic basic engine oil from Yamaha or Honda. Then after that, I went to a more expensive synthetic. Other than that just take it easy on it for the first little while, you should have good luck with it.

I had the 2016 Grizzly 708. Machine gave me nothing but problems. Most unreliable machine I've bought new. Actually the most unreliable machine I've ever had. You name it I had those problems. I should have bought a king Quad or at least the base model Kodiak for 6,400.
I'm currently riding a 21 CFMOTO cforce 800 XC so far that Chinese tank has been more reliable and faithful.

@@kcatv9556 The 708 motor will eventually give out on you. There's a lot of problems with that motor. If that 4x4 switch engages at a high speed you'll blow your differential. I did. Canada force Yamaha to stop producing that motor. Rather than recall it. Yamaha just canceled the contract with Subaru for making it and went back to the Yamaha 686. Way cheaper than build what most customers are asking for.
I've wanted a Grizzly since Yamaha started making them. Finally got financially stable to pull the trigger and I got stuck with a lemon. It is what it is.
The only way I'm buying another Yamaha new from a dealer is if Yamaha put the 850 in the Viking. Hell I'll settle for a 700 v-twin or anything bigger. The 686 in the Viking isn't big enough for me.
At this point in my life. My wife and I would like a side-by-side but I want a 2" lift with 28" or 29" tires and have plenty of power to pull that machine under a load as well as play. I love what Yamaha has to offer other than the Grizzly and Viking being left behind in the power house lineup.
Sorry I ranted on you. You currently have had better luck with the 708 than I. I hope it continues for you Sir.
