- On this episode I install a Coops clutch mod # 2 & 3
This is a 2015 Yamaha Grizzly 700. Also install new secondary spring with anti-friction washer and 1mm shim from JBS performance.

Man, I wish you lived next door to me. I just bought a 2022 Kodiak SE EPS. I'm not crazy about the candy ass Maxxis tires that come stock but I'll have to take my Bighorns off my Rincon I guess. I'd love to learn this stuff. You have an awesome shop. Very cool videos.

Yeah the factory tires are just to save weight. We ran them a couple of years thenthen got the big horns.

I didn’t think the clutch weights were supposed to be greased, I thought they are supposed to fling out with centrifugal force with moves the outer sheave in and out ?

In order to keep from over torquing the secondary shelve. You can use torque extension socket that is rated for the 72 pounds that you need.

This is awesome to see , I like how your hot rodding the griz up. I did the power commander 5 on my can am and had a local dyno tuned and it helped a lot , also did a cvtech clutch on it. Can’t wait to see how you make on with yours 🙌🏻

I'm glad to see you survived the spring compression process haha! I hadn't seen how Yami did their clutching. That's cool. I think people get hung up on doing engine mods, but you can make some huge gains playing around with clutching. Haha, camera down! Do you have somewhere in the area that can dyno your machine once you're done? It'll be fun to see what you end up putting down to the wheels. Great project buddy!

Awesome shop! I just purchased a new belt and cleaned up my clutch and going to put shims on. Just debating whether to go 1.5mm or 2mm with the shim. I don't mind with my quad but I did put 26 inch tires on instead of the 25. Also use quad for snow plowing and spring and summer for hauling wood. 30 cord of wood out of bush. We will see if shims make any difference.
Shins will definitely help you out . 2 mm will give you the lowest ratio. Although remember you will lose top in speed but if that’s not important then I would say go with 2 mm shim.

No, top end isn't that important to me. I rebuilt my 1990 Honda trx300 that I bought when I was 16 and I just sold it to a friend 2 years ago. Then I bought a Suzuki king quad 700 after that. For the past 2 years I've been only using it for hauling wood all spring and summer and then snowplowing a long farm driveway in winter. To tell the unfortunate truth I have used it everyday but I haven't even taken it for a ride on the trails yet after 2 years. So between wood and snowplowing I don't even know what the top end speed is. I'm sure even with shims it will be faster than my Honda fourtrax 300.
@@kcatv9556 btw- thanks for the reply. Also I just watched a video where I guy said with 26 inch tires instead of 25 stock the shim mod will not be a very significant loss on top end. He explained it by saying with 26 inch tires the speedometer reads lower than the actual ground speed. With a 1mm shim it will actually even the actual ground speed with what speedometer reads. So with 2mm mod the actual loss on top end wouldn't be more than 6-7mph. That might be common knowledge but I though I would share that tidbit for what it is worth. Thanks again.
Can I ask why you put a shim behind the cam plate? Usually the shim goes in between the sheaves? Just curious I’m waiting on my sheave from coop currently.
Check out JB performance channel he’s got a video out explaining why.
But yes it can go either place, it’s less likely to leak grease onto the belt placing it behind the cam plate.

I’ve always wondered what the Yamaha clutches looked like. Those ten year belt life warranties have always had me intrigued.
I think the reason the belts last so long is they don’t use the belt as the clutch.
It has a wet clutch internal in the engine so the belt never runs loose and never slips.
I’ll be honest with you I’m surprised they last that long to. Thanks for checking out the video!
If anyone ever asks or questions why mechanics ask for a decent price to do work ...ask yerself this did YOU INVEST in these iinda tools ND time ...BTW this dude rocks... and I got a 22 700 grizz and this makes me more excited than a buffet of chicks in spandex

I assume after these mods you are running higher rpm at the same speed. Have you noticed it using more fuel after the mod?
Hi spyder000069, Sorry for the delayed response. Somehow i missed this comment.
It does use a little more fuel with the mods and fuel programmer adding little more fuel.
It's not that noticeable though, still can go around a100 miles on a tank full.

Great vid. Hey I just bought a 2022 kodiak 700, have 6 hrs on break in. And I noticed today, a click, or clunk sound when at a dead stop hit the throttle and hear a click, kind of clunk sound coming the clutch housing. But if I start out slow before throttling it it doesn't do it? Please help

Nice video! How much horsepower do those machines have? We ride sportsman 570s and they have more than enough power for what we do. Are you from Kansas? We are in northeast Kansas

@@reddawng43x91 Actually the Polaris 570 puts out I believe 44 hp so not too far off. I've had them all over in colorado and they have never not had enough power for the riding we do. That being said once the kids are grown and out of the house I'll probably bump up to an 850 just for the heck of it.
@@rodneyfarwell3396 I had a brand new 500 H.O. Polaris back in 2006 out the crate, was in the shop more than I rode it! 28 outlaws on light wheels and a heel clicker clutch kit, if u wasn’t on the highway u had to stay in low , by the time my warranty was up 2 yrs later the motor was shot!

Slip on pipe with Lexx quiet core.
Power commander V fuel controller.
Modified air cleaner lid
Coops clutch mod 2&3 with 1 mm shim
Purple secondary spring.
Hot cam stage 2
Ported cylinder head.

Why did you go with a coops clutch upgrade over the jbs clutch upgrade. I have a 2021 grizzly xtr and am looking at doing the clutch.
If I remember right with the JBS clutch you have to run his weights to get the overdrive. With the coops clutch you still run the factory weights that’s what I liked about that.

Coop had a superior product. He didn't try to upsell other useless junk like larger weights and anti friction washers which are pointless.

I’m planning to up grade my sheave but I don’t know if I want to go with JBS or Coop45 why did you choose Coop45.
j. s. I went with coops because you can use the factory weights and don’t have to buy different weights to go with the machine Sheave.
With the JBS Sheave you have to run his overdrive weights. So that’s basically the reason why.
I think his would work fine but didn’t want to buy clutch weights as well. Hope that helps you out thanks for watching!

it’s just on the outer part of the center spacer. which accomplishes the same thing.

Definitely put the shook in the wing place. It will have no effect on sheave spacing there. Proff is there when you only get a barely over 3 to 1 ratio with both the machined sheave and 1mm of skin. That's only the sheave. 1mm alone will put you in the 2.9 to 1 ratio. The 2 combined should be over 3.5 to 1 and belt rub and grease cover rubbing.
You will like that 3.0 to 1 ratio and as the belt wears the ratio will increase. You will probable get a little belt to clutch cover rubbing at just over 3 to 1 ratio. I have my 17 Grizzly at 3.25 to 1 ratio and the belt sticks out the of the secondary close to 1/4". I have a pretty decent wear spot in my cover and when I first put that ratio in I had to take the cover back off so I could pull the plastic out of the notches on the belt. You could hear it and smell it. I made a set of holding tools that look like the ones in this video. Its actually where i got the idea. ua-cam.com/video/UEkGEdlCYK4/v-deo.html
I’ve ridden it just a little bit after I got done with the engine mod and yeah it runs pretty good i’m impressed. Not sure if it’s the engine mod or the clutching but it rips.
I’ll ride it a few more times then pull the cover off and see if there’s any belt rub. I may need to build some of those tools like in the video if I’m going to be taking the clutch apart frequently. Thanks for the tip on those tools!

@@kcatv9556 Well the machined sheave and secondary spring will give you more low end, The cam plate mod will give you more top end. And I would assume your stage 2 hot cam will make it all work even better. Being you have a PC-V you could probable play with ignition timing some and get even more out of it providing your PC-V has timing adjustments??
@@440cubicinch Yes my PC-V does have ignition timing adjust. Right now it’s set 2 deg advanced in the upper RPM range.
