  • Learn how to clone your clothes to copy pants, trousers, or jeans with the rub off patternmaking technique. Don't make the mistake most people make in this process! Most people skip a very important step that greatly affects the fit of the pants.
    I show you how to clone the sewing pattern accurately so you can make as many new garments as you want. This process works for men's, women's, and kid's clothing.
    Since this is a LIVE broadcast, go through this process with me in real time. Grab your favorite pair of pants, patternmaking paper, ruler, hip curve, weights, pins, pencil, pins, and a pointed tracing wheel (if you have one), and let's get started!
    So sorry there are little green markings around the overhead shots! That is for the manual camera setting and I didn't know they would show up when I tether the camera to the live stream!
    I'll be sure to remove that in the next live! Thanks for your patience as I work out these tech things :)
    If you have The Fitting Book, make sure that's handy because I will show you how to balance the pattern with the techniques in the book. If you don't have The Fitting Book yet, you can find it on Amazon through this affiliate link: amzn.to/3UM4QSz

    I posted a second video with the final part of this process. I'll go over the fly, pocket bags, and other small pieces. Make sure to watch it here: • How to Copy a Pair of ...

      I didn’t mind it, it made it easier to see the finer details that the camera has trouble picking up

    je parle très mal anglais (et le comprends encore moins bien) mais j'ai compris toutes tes explications grâce à tes indications manuelles sur les patrons.

    Hi Gina, I’m a beginner to sewing. I don’t understand what you mean by the topstitch and why you need to account for it. I don’t even know how to identify it on the pair of pants I’m trying to copy. Could you please explain for a newbie :)

    • @GinaRenee
      @GinaRenee  8 місяців тому +2

      A topstitch is a stitchline that is visible on the outside of the garment. The stitch makes the seam more durable. Since the topstitch is a distance away from the seam, you need to account for that distance if the garment is not lying flat in that area. A topstitch is usually about 1/16"- 1/4" (1.5 mm - 4 mm) away from the visible seam on the outside of the garment.

    I wish i had watched this before copying the pattern from some jeans i have lol, it took me ages.. The only thing is on my jeans the waistband is straight and sits flat on me, but on my mockup the waistband sticks out all around the top and i dont know what to do to fix it!! If anyone has any advice

      I hope it helps you for the next time you copy a pair of pants! I recommend following the pattern corrections found on pages 230-233 in The Fitting Book for that issue. It's the same correction for wherever the gaping occurs. It will make the pattern slightly curved and give a better fit.

    can i use a knit pair of pants to copy into cotton pants

    • @GinaRenee
      @GinaRenee  День тому

      Yes, you can copy a knit pair of pants. However, you'll likely forego the dart in the back because the fabric stretches to replace the dart.
