In this video I give an easy to understand description of what Artificial Intelligence is, and describe the things you will be learning in this series of lessons. This class will be based on Python running on a Windows 10 PC. We will be using openCV to do the work. I will teach OpenCV, but it would be good if you have basic familiarity with Python.

Advantages of AI are limitless: from the health industry in finding of diseases, to its application in self driving cars. It can also be used in security systems to detect unauthorised personnel just like the AI algorithm that is used in our phones for security

Advantages of AI
1. Reduces human error since machines do not make mistakes when programmed correctly.
2. Takes risks instead of humans such as diffusing a bomb
3. Available all the time since they do not get bored or tired while operating
Disadvantages of AI
1. High cost of production
2. May cause unemployment in companies since they can do the work more efficiently and faster
3. Makes human lazy since they can practically do anything we want them to do.

Advantages : obstacle avoidance for self driving cars, surveillance (theft protection), agriculture (detecting when the fruits are ripe, etc), medical industry to detect protein shapes.
Disadvantages: AI guided missiles, swarm UAVs deciding to suicide attack on a target, AI algorithms influencing our decisions on products, lifestyle, politics, etc.

Hello sir. First of all, thank you so much for these great tutorials.
I think the 3 advantages of AI to mankind are;
1: Increase the efficiency in all areas we can think of. For example in the future, where all cars are autonomous, there would be no traffic jams because cars can communicate with each other and drive accordingly. (It also prevents traffic accidents due to human mistakes)
2: Since AI doesn't have emotions (at least now) they can make the hard decision for us. For example, wars between countries (NONSENSE).
3: It can help us to understand the universe better by analyzing Footage from space or help to solve some of the mysteries of quantum physics (I don't know how:) ).
The 3 Risks that AI might cause are the other point of view the advantages come with the AI
1: Since AI increases efficiency in all areas many people might lose their jobs and can't earn their living.
2: Since AI doesn't have emotions it can make immoral decisions. For example, an autonomous car would hit a pedestrian just for saving its owner.
3: Maybe someday AI might get too smart and we can live life as in The Matrix.
All in all, I think AI is a good invention of mankind (maybe the best). It will certainly have negative effects on some point but positive sides will be much more. Again, Thank you for these tutorials sir.
Hopefully, the science fiction hypotheticals remain as thought experiments and not what is to come.

im learning this because i want to persue my dream career in mechatronics/robotics and automation engineering and possibly a bit of business, who knows what the future has for me as a child i was always interested in computers and programming but only now have i figured out what my passion really is, thanks paul you are such a great teacher and thats rare to find.

Looks like I'm a month behind the live classes, but I'll try to catch up.
I've taken a couple university AI courses. We started out learning about logic calculus in one class, and game theory in another one. I think you chose a very interesting and exciting way to begin. You obviously put a great deal of thought and preparation into every lesson you teach, no matter what the topic.
AI is a huge field, so any course is like looking out your front door's peephole at the world, and seeing a small slice of it. I'm looking forward to seeing AI through the lens you present.
I'm also up to lesson 20 in your Arduino series, which has already taught me enough to take a sabbatical from your teaching to work on the Arduino project that I need. I had no idea where to start with Arduino until I discovered your lessons. Thank you for giving me such a great start. I feel like I'm standing on the shoulders of a giant!

There may be many more just exploring AI and amazed by the science behind in the normal every day things we do when we teach the computers on how to do it. I see the immediate advantages in the ease of work and automation in the work we do especially in the most critical departments and like health and defence and also efficiency in the work we do while minimising the cost to build and run them in today's world. The disadvantage can be how we are to govern them, who is going to create the policies, what are the trust and privacy agreements and who makes this decision and many more on the security and control of this information as no one is watching how this data can be interpreted for usage but the much awaited next steps needed for next era of internet and in combination with 5G and Blockchain the applications can be mindblowing, just to wait and watch how this turns out. I have always found it funny how easy it is to get into new subjects after watching your videos. it's truly an art. I tried by myself to get into Arduino years ago but I couldn't, until I found you, my first teacher and probably the best teacher. Now after learning Arduino and raspberry pi I am ready to tackle artificial intelligence. I'm sure this will be a piece of cake with you teaching again.

Hey, Paul! I'm very excited for this series. I recently finished an internship working for a lab focused on the automation of agricultural tasks, and AI was a recurring topic in their projects. I gained some experience working with OpenCV and training a computer vision model, but I'm sure I'll learn tons from your explanations of this topics. Here are my thoughts on artificial intelligence:
Benefits:
- Security systems that can identify intruder or pests and respond accordingly.
- Streamlined, automated data acquisition such as counting the amount of fruit in a grove to provide more accurate yield prediction in agriculture.
- Advanced gesture interfacing. I saw a video by Zack Freedman using AI to control a wearable display of his and it was amazing!
Risks:
- Slanderous machination of just about anyone with the use of deepfakes. Misinformation is already rampant today and this would be detrimental unless everyone had a solid understanding of the potential of this technology.
- Automation will drive out the need for human labor in many areas, rendering those individuals redundant.
- More effective manipulation of individuals. Social media sites are already gathering tons of data from each user to tailor the content provided in order to maximize time spent on these platforms. As AI gets better at understanding the inputs and outputs of human behavior online it gains the ability to control us more effectively.
In my opinion artificial intelligence is a field with the potential for so many great developments that will increase our quality of life in the upcoming years. We should not scare away from the idea of it because of the foreseeable challenges ahead (and those we don't see yet!), as I am sure that counter-measures, required regulation, and etiquette will come as it becomes a more integral part of our lives (like the internet). The progression of technology is inevitable, we will be better off embracing it, and adapting to it, rather than trying to fight it.
I agree with all of this and wish I thought of these points myself.

My suggestion, however, is to start with content that is totally for beginners, but please end it with something more of a research oriented project. I would really appreciate it if you could focus a lil more research based projects....

I think, like in automation, AI help us do the work faster and more precise. It can also help us focus on other work where AI cant be used. For the downside, a lot of people will lose their jobs

This is great stuff! It just blows me away, even though I spent my career doing business programming. I started with self-taught COBOL using punch cards on an IBM System/3 that had a whopping 24K of actual ferrite core memory. Your Raspberry Pi and Python videos were terrific and inspired me to order a Pi 400.
