In these lessons we will be using a logitech webcam. If you use the identical camera that I have, you will be ensured to get the same results. I suggest your life will be easier if you use the same camera I am using, available from Amazon below:

In this video I give an easy to understand description how to run multiple versions of python on the same computer. I will show two different methods for determining which version of python runs when more than one exists on your system.

Black Mamba, I'm legend... In case this helps people following these lessons on Mac: there's a tool you can use called "pyenv" (installed through "brew") to manage different python versions on same system, without messing with default python installed by "command line tools". I strongly suggest reading "pyenv" documentation.
A late starter Paul. I've been a Patreon supporter for a couple of years but haven't been in here for that long due to health issues. Great to be back. I am legend with the Black Mamba. Great stuff as always.🙃
Black Mamba
I am legend.
That was a very helpful explanation of environments, and why we will use them. We used one for the Arduino with Python videos, and I didn't really understand why. I had asked a couple of people I know that are computer science majors currently, but they were not very helpful as neither of them ever used environments when they coded. Now I know, and as G.I. Joe always said, "knowing is half the battle". I am SO looking forward to this course. Thank you again Mr. Paul.
Oh Black Mamba! I AM LEGEND! Conquering Windows and Python. I actually watch your videos twice. The first time I just watch the video and absorb what I can. The second time I follow along. It’s going to be very difficult to catch up with these AI lessons and do the pyArduino. Africa is such an interesting place. Did the security guy chop its head off? I need to watch more of your Extreme Preppers videos. I showed one to my wife so now she is watching them. I can’t get over that toilet. Really! I don’t think I could do it. I need the cutout chair. I love when you digress and tell those stories.
I love your new AI for Everyone playlist already. This Lesson 2 is a great beginning. Thanks. And your video quality of HD 1080p60 looks great.
Thank you too!
Black Mamba; I am legend. I had made a mistake while installing the various versions of python: I forgot the check the box indicating to include PATH hence my 'pip' wasn't giving a positive result. I had to modify it and it works fine now. I'm so glad I didn't have to type: I folded up like a cheap Walmart lawn chair. I just did but under different circumstances 😅. Anyway, thank Mr. McWhorter.
Maybe you folded up, but sounds like you picked yourself up, dusted yourself off, and got right back in the saddle. It is not about being LEGEND always first time, it is about not ever giving up and sticking with it. EXCELLENT work!
Arduino and images processing.. that sounds fun.
High, I dare to listen to your teaching. I'm not sure I can complete your lessons, but I will do my best. This year, I just started to learn AI after 60 years old . And I just entered a college to study computer languages with young students. I'm Korean. There will be many difficulties in understanding English itself in completing your lessons but I will try to do my best. Thank you for your teaching. Very wonderful job.
You are a person none of us we'll able to replace. It was not just what you taught about python versions, how to switch it, and the logic behind it. Because someone who really wants to teach it would show those, making us futureproof. Thank you!
This lesson has cleared fundamental doubts... Thank you
I never loose my enthusiasm to learn from your lessons becoz your step by step approach is very comforting to learn and understand....Thank you Paul.
P.S: Legend... Black Mamba :)
Thank you for this class! I am Legend and I do the black Mamba.
This is the second of your classes I am attempting, I am half way through your "AI on the Jetson Nano" class as well.
Note: for multiple users the "Custom" Python install must be used and "All Users" check box checked in the second menu. This installs the python package in the "/Program Files" directory rather than under the individual User AppData folder, where it is inaccessible to other users.
Also: The path to the Python installation directories then appears under the System Variables (second list box) rather than the User Variables (the first list box).
Excellent!
Black Mamba
I am a legend.
Many thanks, Paul. Came across from the Arduino courses to here.
I switched from a mechanical design engineer to a mechatronics engineer last year.
Your tutorial helped me to turn my ideas into proof-of-concept prototypes smoothly. Couldn't wait to see the new product launch out to make the world a better place!
Good to be an engineer and glad to grow with your courses.
Thank you!!!😊
LEGEND!
Mr McWhorter absolutely love your videos have been following you for a few years now. Huge fan. Just wanted to reassure you that the scaling of your text is normally always fine and do not need to worry as we can see (y)
You are the best Paul. Excited for this series as always!
Enjoy!
Let's go paul, Let's get some bread. Just completed your Arduino series. Loved it.
Loving the search Tabs at the top of the screen. "Confirmed Reptilians", "Secret Artic Bases", Love it!
You would be amazed at the things most people dont see right in front of them. Thanks for being observant.
I've got to re-watch with eyes open...
Hey Paul, This is a great session. Thought I will put this here. Some of us may get an error when running "py" stating that the command is not recognized even when the Python launcher has been installed. The fix to that is to add the path of py to the SYSTEM path variable. Usually py is installed at path C:\Windows and if this path is added to the environment Path variable, then the "py" command should work as demonstrated in your lesson!
The Rattler gave my wife the chills!
Thank you, you helped me a lot
Hello Paul,
I'm thoroughly enjoying the AI series so far. The only challenge I'm facing is the absence of a Windows environment; instead, I'm using macOS. Fortunately, this hasn't been a hindrance to my enjoyment of the content. I plan to attempt the lessons on my Mac in the near future, but for now, I'm still thoroughly engaged and not experiencing any boredom.
Thanks for your support, Paul.
Hello Paul,
Thanks for the great lesson as always.
I am coming to this series a little late. In my own defense, you have an awful lot of online material to work through.
Really looking forward to the OpenCV training.
I am legend and no Black Mambas in sight.
Sorry my friend, I am not a coffee drinker : hot or cold.
I really love your lessons.. Hope to continue the whole series with you... (btw forgot Black Mamba )
Thanks for the New ideas for installing multiple ver.of Python on a system it's great very nice
Glad you like it
If I ever get bitten by a black mamba, first thing I'll do will be to make myself a nice cup of iced coffee. Then I'll watch this video, but I'll die 2:48 minutes away from the end.
Now that is really funny. Maybe the lesson would get your mind off the black mamba bite and you would just forget to die
You have nailed it that Python is easy to write, hard to run. Can be so confusing, particularly to newcomers,
Best quotes ever: "Today, we're the boss". "Who's in control? I'm in control."
One of the best channels ever! Great content.
Thanks Philippe, I appreciate the kind words.
thank you sir for the amazing lessons
So nice of you
I'm a cheap wallmart legend! Love your channel! I almost forget: black mamba!!
Got it. I have become a huge fan of iced coffee but not in the winter. "Legend", "Black Momba". Thanks Paul
the last homework was pretty easy so i would call myself a legend
feels good not to fold up like a cheap lawnchair haha
thanks a lot paul for helping me out
ive done all of your arduino and python series and am super exited to start thiss
keep up the good work sir.
lots of love from india!
edit : i commented to early so heres my black mamba!
You are a great teacher!
Thank you very much for now . Happy to be here
Although I am on a Linux machine a follow along and managed to become Legend with that black mamba. Thank you for this great series.
Just finished some summer courses last week and school starts next week so i'm spending my free time learning more! I am legend, can't wait to be the black mamba of the engineering world!
Love it! You need a Black Mamba tshirt
Loved this lesson!! I am legend whos scared of black mamba as well
Black Mamba, Love your lessons Paul. Thank You for being so awesome
Good luck Paul. 👏🔥👍
BKACK MAMBAS ARE LEGEND....wait that's not right.
Thanks again for this lesson Paul, please don't apologise for laying the ground work for later stuff we are going to do, I gained so much from this, understanding a little about how all this works.
YOUR LESSONS REGARDLESS OF CONTENT ARE NEVER DULL!
Black mamba! I hope you have good screens on all the windows and tight fitting exterior doors. Maybe get a few mongooses (mongeese?) for snake control.
I am legend, love the lesson, no more confusion with multiple python installation, thanks, python is fine but no black mamba!
I am legend.
Black mamba.
Thank You for a great tutorial...this is my first with Python + Windows Powershell, you made it very easy to follow, execute, and understand.
Glad to hear that
That's a pretty cool looking black mamba!
Good luck 💜 Interesting always
Hi Paul, I skipped ahead of my lessons just to learn about how to deal with the different versions of Python I've got installed: I must be a bit of a sicko because I actually enjoy this stuff!
It took me a while to work out when to "quit" a session and when not to.
That snake sure looks deadly: it was even smoking a cigarette - that's one tough critter!
Black mamba
I am legend!
I didn't even know I could run python from powershell, thanks for teaching me I could!
LEGEND!
Whatta fine 32 minutes... I really had fun watching it. - UPDATE: Black Mamba! I AM LEGEND!
THANK YOU!!!!!
I am Legend. Thanks so much Paul, you are a very engaging teacher, good work sir!
LEGEND!
I am legend. Thank you so much for making another amazing video series. I even love the random black mamba stories.
Yes you are!
Paul, What specific versions of Python do you what installed? Thanks.
I am legend. I certainly hope to never encounter a Black Mamba. Thanks for another good one.
Hi Paul. I have just started with your AI lessons. They are great, just like the Arduino and Python that I'm doing simultaneously. Btw, I'm a black mamba legend, (I'm from Sweden and we don't have snakes, huh).
Black Mamba - Paul, you are scaring us...be safe.
Hi Paul,
I run in Mac and I was wondering how many issues I am going to have to complete this course, I already today couldn't figure out what the equivalent of changing where the path was in the environment and I got really frustrated. Do you have any recommendations for what I should do for the environment issue and general resources that I can use to educate myself in how Macs work. Thank you
I am LEGEND! I have no versions of pyserial installed now. I take it that is how we were to leave it, but can successfully start any version of the four installed versions at will.
Black Mamba
I am legend.
Thanks so much Sir for you explanations
Thanks!
Thanks! Appreciate the help
This was a VERY good lesson. Now I know py, the Python launcher, and how to run pip for a specific version.
I am legend, and think the Python language is much more fun than a Black Mamba.
You know, it is so simple once it is explained, but I was confused by this simple stuff for years because no one ever really explained it.
Hello Paul, what about our Robotics Lesson, when are we expecting the continuation
23:35 The veersssion that I want :)
Can you recommend a way for Mac users to do concerning the installation process?
I am legend....black mamba...another great lesson.
So - Black mamba, I am legend. Thanks Paul!
Thanks Paul! I was taking other classes but now I am back and will take these classes to the end. If you read this comment, What is the minimum requirement for the Logitech Camera? I am limited on the selection I can buy where I am. Brexit complicated things and Amazon has redirected me to order from Spain...
Thanks again for the outstanding class delivery, No, I refuse to fold like cheap Walmart chair... : (
Im managed to become legend!
Really Im totally messed up with different versions of python.
Thank you very much for teaching to work with different python versions
Keep it up
Hi Paul, at the beginning of the lesson, you mentioned that there are a few ways to run different versions of python but you only demo one? I also noticed that you use the default destination for installation. Is there an advantage for using a custom directory? Lastly, any difference between using cmd and powershell?
First he showed how to use the env command get to your environment and edit your path. Second, he showed you how to use py - to run whichever version you want.
Hello Paul,
Can you make a Series for Computer Vision
Hi. I've tried an ice coffee, like it, thanks to you. It is definitely THE beverage that you need to be concentrated for a long period.
Please tell me you didnt put sugar in it!
@@paulmcwhorter NO WAY! Gave up sugar a year ago. Feels awesome!
The few, the proud, the Sugar Free
Kobe is the true black mamba, and I am legend. Thanks Paul
Hi Paul! I am late, almost by a year after you posted this video but I am happy that I landed here. You are a remarkable person and a great motivator in a subtle way 😇and yes... I can echo by now that you made me a legend and saved me from a black mamba 😃 Sure to follow your all videos. And before I forget to mention..... I have started sipping ice-cold black coffee with no sugar or sweeteners.
Welcome aboard!
Thanks for these lessons Paul! I've been really learning! Two comments...
1. What happened to your ORANGE shirt?!?
2. I am LEGEND! The homework was very informative, and makes me look forward to what you have to teach us about virtual environments!
PS: Black Mamba!
PPS: Since I'm watching these in April, 2022 I went ahead and install and verified PIP installation for Python 3.10.4 Which worked great. Now my challenge will be to keep sorted which version to run of the 5 Python installations I have. Extra Credit? :0
Shirts are color coded with the class. Orange shirt was for the arduino classes. AI is light purple. IMU was yellow.
can you use any version beyond 3.7.9 or the other versions you mentioned
A little wrinkle on switching between python versions in Powershell: In addition to 3.7 and 3.9, I have 3.8 installed, but I installed it as the Coding Pack offered by Microsoft and not by the method used in today's lesson. Because of this, Version 3.8 does not appear in Powershell. The advantage of Coding Pack is that it comes optimized for VS Code with libraries such as matplotlib, numpy, sklearn pre-installed.
The Logitech C920x HD Pro Webcam from Amazon is currently back ordered until mid August, do you have a secondary supplier that you recommend? Or do you have a different camera that would work the same? I see the Logitech C922x HD Pro Webcam is about $10 more and has better brightness controls, and it is also available right now...
That one should work as well.
Black Mamba, Thanks Paul!
Excellent
YOU ARE A LEGEND
BLACK MAMBA
I AM LEGEND
Even though my path variables appear to be set up correctly when I try to run 3.7 it seems to go to the 3.9 Lib folder and I get the error "...\AppData\Local\Programs\Python\Python39\Lib\io.py", line 54, in .....ImportError: cannot import name 'open_code' from 'io' (unknown location)" . I have used pip uninstall on all libraries, uninstalled both versions using a revo uninstaller with a scan for leftovers, removed all python path entries, searched the entire computer for python related stuff and deleted, and run a registry cleaner prior to reinstalling and I still get the same issue. I've checked io.py in the Python37 folder and it doesn't have an entry to import 'open_code'... something is telling Python 3.7 to go to the Python39\Lib\ folder and I can't figure out what it is. Any ideas?
Sorry, but Black Mamba only comes in at number 15 in the world. I was following around an Eastern Brown (number 1, and a good size at about 6', so fully mature but not particularly old as it was still a bit slender of girth) the other day trying to convince it that it should leave the yard peacefully, rather than piece-fully. We've had about 10 close encounters in the last 5 years, 2 or 3 events having an unfortunately fatal ending. I do far prefer an outcome where no-one gets hurt. But that is living in Australia for you - if it's poisonous, we have it!
Black Mamba! I, like your guard, am Legend!
LEGEND!
Thanks for the lessons! I am Legend. Black Mamba
I am legend! Strawberry Mambas are my favorite. I have never had a black one.
Black Mamba - Thanks.
Cheap Lawn Chair Black mamba. I did do 3.10 and 3.9.6 and 3.7.6 so I feel I did the spirit of the assignment
Hope u can help me solve pip problem in mac
Legend in Tokyo, while drinking hot black plasma without black mamba in site.
Great Lesson Paul!!!
Installed python 3.7.9 and 3.9.6 as per your lesson 2 video. However, for 'homework' you also ask to install latest versions of 3.6 and 3.8 - I can find the 'latest' releases in the Python Releases for Windows screen but under each it says "No files for this release", so I'm unable to install either release. Obviously this is because I'm very late to join the show! Will this be a stumbling block later on in the course or are there other versions I can use? I would rather call myself a legend than folding up like a cheap lawn chair ... damn those Black Mambas!!
I am legend and Black Mamba. Thanks for the tutorials.
Will the Run button in VScode run the code in the version that is on top of the list in Env variables, is this correct?
No, you have to select which python interpreter in VScode. in lesson 4 I think
Oh gotcha, Thanks Paul.
and Thank you!
I am legend :), Black Mumba, thank you Paul and take care
I´m legend, hopefully no more Black Mambas at your place :D keep doing great content :)
You are amazing 😍🤩
Thank you so much 😀
Black Mamba... I am legend (with the help of Paul)
LEGEND!
Lesson 2 complete, nothing like homework and a Starbucks Trenta size black ice tea no sugar!
Excellent!
Wow, I didn't even know, before now, that Windows PowerShell even existed.
I am legend,
black mamba!
Black Mamba
I am Legend and so are you sir
I've literally found a gem
Hi Paul sir I have ( Logitech C310 HD 720p Webcam), this will work?
You will just have to try it. I can not know for each different model what will happen.
I am legend. Thank you so much for such amazing content, love you from INDIA.
Legend!
