He said when he was in the hospital going through Leukemia treatment that it was his body telling him it had a spell on him. Puts a whole new spin on the lyrics.
I love this version and knowing why he did it makes it even more special. This is what he wrote under the description of the song which had some footage from when he was at the hospital during his chemo treatment 3 yrs ago. Thankfully he is cancer free now. "I brought my guitar to the hospital when I was undergoing chemotherapy and started playing this song. It was like my body was singing this to me "I put a spell on you, because you're mine"... It was showing me its power, that I'm nothing without my health. I knew I had to record an acoustic version of this song at some point and here it is, with footage from my time at the hospital. "
He got diagnosed with leucemia 2021 he got a bone marrow transplant and is now free from cancer. But still has abit of bad immune system. Thats why he left Skid Row
Eric is one of my favorite metal/ rock singers in the world. We have another guy in Sweden that’s amazing too, Tommy Johansson. You should give him a listen too
"I Put a Spell on You" is a 1956 song written and recorded by "Screamin' Jay" Hawkins. The selection became a classic cult song, covered by a variety of artists. It was Hawkins' greatest commercial success, reportedly surpassing a million copies in sales,[5][6] even though it failed to make the Billboard pop or R&B charts.[7][8] Hawkins' recording of it was selected as one of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll. It was also included in Robert Christgau's "Basic Record Library" of 1950s and 1960s recordings-published in Christgau's Record Guide: Rock Albums of the Seventies (1981)[9]-and ranked No. 313 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
Ok, i was already liking Erik a LOT, but this.....OMG!!! I was NOT prepared for THIS. Following this, you could do his duet with Dan Vasc covering 'We all die young' - it's AMAZING.
Angelina Jordan covered this when she was 9 years old. Based on Screaming J Hawkins original version. This sounds like Guns and Rose's with David Guilmore on guitar. Not bad though 🤘
The version I heard was an African American man from the 50's. I love that one the best. I do get the blues guitar but I don't dig the rock vocals. The vocals are good but not my cup of tea.

Same here - I like his voice but just feel the song needs a bit more of a subdued “bluesy” delivery
Screamin' Jay Hawkins
Wrong. It’s a screaming jay Hawkins song. And he’s better than this
