This is one of the best versions of this song. CCR has always been one of my favorites. John Fogerty has one of the most unique & recognizable voices around. They don't have a bad song! Huge list of hits! "I Heard It Through The Grapevine", "Proud Mary", "Fortunate Son", "Down On The Corner", "Green River", "The Midnight Special", "Susie Q", "Born On The Bayou", "Travelin' Band", "Run Through The Jungle", "Sweet Hitchhiker", "Bad Moon Rising" etc.
Just like with the Nine Inch Nails song 'Hurt' that got owned by Johnny Cash (as Trent Reznor stated it) simply by doing his version of it, this has become CCR's song, without discrediting Jay Hawkins of course.
A fabulous group!! So many big hit records from 1968 to 1972. Seven of their Singles were #1 Songs here in Canada. Loved them! John Fogerty lead singer Guitarist songwriter and producer. Brilliant man!!
You two should check out "Born On A Bayou" by CCR. John Fogerty will convince you that he was born in the swamps of Louisiana when, in fact, he had never been there when he performed the song. He said that he just felt like he was from the area. I am glad you discovered this great band, and you have many fantastic songs to react to and enjoy. I love your authentic, real reactions.
CCR These members had played together since 1959, first as the Blue Velvets and later as the Golliwogs, before settling on Creedence Clearwater Revival in 1967. The band's most prolific and successful period between 1969 and 1971 produced fourteen consecutive Top 10 singles (many of which were double A-sides) and five consecutive Top 10 albums in the United States - two of which, Green River (1969) and Cosmo's Factory (1970), reached number one. The band performed at the 1969 Woodstock festival in Upstate New York, and was the first major act signed to appear there. Creedence Clearwater Revival
Fogerty's voice is amazing. Nobody really compares to Creedence; they carved out a space all their own. So many great ones. Try "Suzie Q" next, preferably one of the longer versions (at least 8 minutes).
I have been listening to these guys since I was 13 snd it still amazes me to see that voice coming from that guy! 😂 I was so fortunate to be young when all of the great music of the 60’s and 70’s was happening in real time. I’m a month late to this party so probably nobody will ever read this 😂. Nevertheless, it’s great to watch someone react to CCR for the first time, especially this song! 🌺✌️
Very deep rabbit hole. One of the greatest rock bands of all time. Lead vocalist, lead guitarist, songwriter and band leader John Fogarty is one of the great talents in rock history. He’s had a long solo career post-CCR and still tours today. Check out Born on the Bayou, Green River, Lodi, Who’ll Stop the Rain, Proud Mary, Willie and the Poor Boys and Bad Moon Rising for starters. You’ll have only scratched surface.
John Forgerty was all of 23 when this song was released. Think about that. Real music, sophisticated arrangement that still has no equal. Superb guitar playing. And that voice. I was 13 when it came out and have been a fan ever since.
Some other CCR songs you will like: Proud Mary, Have You Ever Seen The Rain?, Bad Moon Rising, Long As I Can See The Light, Fortunate Son, Who'll Stop The Rain?, I Heard It Through The Grapevine and Suzie Q.
CCR fan since 1969, thanks for reacting to this song which is one of my favorites. Another great CCR song Born on the Bayou, Have you ever seen the Rain , Suzy Q, Fortunate Son 🔥🔥🔥❤️❤️❤️
You haven't really covered the late 60s/early 70s without reacting to CCR. They had such a run of hits, with such a distinct sound. The biggest surprise for me was that they were a California band that sounded like they were from the Louisiana swamps.
I Put a Spell on You" is a 1956 song written and composed by Jalacy "Screamin' Jay" Hawkins, whose own recording of it was selected as one of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll. It was also included in Robert Christgau's "Basic Record Library" of 1950s and 1960s recordings-published in Christgau's Record Guide: Rock Albums of the Seventies (1981)[5]-and ranked No. 313 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. The selection became a classic cult song covered by a variety of artists and was his greatest commercial success, reportedly surpassing a million copies in sales,[6][7] even though it failed to make the Billboard pop or R&B chart
You both describe the feelings that you get from hearing a great song and band so beautifully. I have spent my whole life around the music that you are watching and I'm privileged to have seen and met many performers that you feature on your channel. Thanks for bringing a true spirit and appreciation of music to your reactions.
It was early 1969, I was 19 years old in a barracks on Da Nang airbase Vietnam. I slipped on another fellow's head phones and listened to CCR I Put A Spell On You for the first time. It moved me deep in my soul and still resides there today 55 years later.
I think it was Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones who said "It's so amazing that you can get so much music out of just six little strings." Your comments about thinking that you've heard all you can hear, and then finding something new and amazing and how much fun that is, makes me think of what he said.
CCR is a national treasure! You two need to listen to all their songs. I agree w/ everything from your reaction. Keep them coming, I'm here for it. Love your channel & all your reactions. Sending love & inner peace ❤🎵✌🏼
I Put a Spell on You" is a 1956 song written and composed by Jalacy "Screamin' Jay" Hawkins, whose own recording of it was selected as one of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll. THIS IS TO ME THE BEST VERSION.
I love both versions, but if I could see just one of them live I'd probably pick Hawkins because I loved his theatrics when he performed it live. That might be an opinion influenced by nostalgia since I fist saw him do it live on TV in the late 50's when I was about 10 years old.
Great to see you ready to jump down this rabbit hole. So many great songs. Try I heard it through the grapevine, Midnight special, Long as I can see the light.
It's always hard to say and very debatable if a track is among the best ever made/performed, but not with this one, cause this simply is THE best performance of a song that on itself already is one of the best ever written.
I'm so glad that you heard this song! John Fogerty may not have written it, but he owns it nonetheless. He plays some truly wicked guitar on this. And yes, his voice! For a group from the bay area of California, they channel their inner swampers very well. Fogerty sounds like he grew up in the bayou! The first album that I ever bought with my own money was CCR's Bayou Country. I was 15
And to think John Fogerty is still touring and singing up a storm . I believe he is in Australia touring . Remember listening to their albums in highschool , which I still have 5 in my collection . Great memories !
I love CCR. They are 1960s American swamp rock at it's finest. And John Fogerty is a legend btw, and has such a killer voice. There are so many amazing American bands from the 60s and 70s that non-Americans are sadly ignorant of because they are too focused on British Invasion bands, who are all highly overrated. That homegrown, soulful, bluesy, country, backwoods groovy grit exemplified in American musicians cannot be replicated by outsiders because it's not in their blood or their culture.
Love your reactions to this group and song, and have watched your reactions at least 10 times to it. I have loved this group since they came out and was a young man. Even though I have probably heard this song at least a thousand times, love it just as much now as I did hearing it for the first time growing up in Washington state in the U.S. You are in for a real treat by getting into this band. I would suggest “Born on the Bayou”, extended version of “ I Heard It Through the Grapevine “, “Long As I Can See the Light”, “Run Through the Jungle”, “Up Around the Bend”, “Have You Ever Seen the Rain” for starters.
CCR is a phenomenon in that they were from the Bay Area of California but sounded SO Southern. In fact, so southern that their music became known as “swamp rock” because it sounded to us like music from the bayous of Louisiana. In fact, one of their biggest hits was Born on the Bayou. John Fogerty has such a distinct voice. You always know it when you hear it.
Love you guys, !! Cant stop watching. I saw them twice, and the were one of the MOST well rehearsed bands I ever heard ( and I've seen HUNDREDS) and the were AWESOME !!
OOHHHH MAN…!!! AT 15 MY FIRST ALBUM 1970, KOSMOS FACTORY, FIRST SONG, RAMBLE TAMBLE. ROCKIN EVER SINCE. SO GLAD THAT YOU HAVE FOUND THEM, BIG BIG RABBIT HOLE, NOT A BAD SONG. My emotions ran sky high and to this day, in my early 70s, I get those same emotions as I hear them once again. I can die knowing that I lived during the greatest era of R&R, southern rock, early metal, et al. Peace out.
Screaming Jay Hawkins who did the original mid 50s dug this so much he said CCR owns the song! John Fogerty is such a great singer and so talented. More 🔥🔥🔥🔥 songs by them. I heard it through the Grapevine, Fortunate Son Around the Bend Traveling Band and more. Their in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and surely deserve it.
If you liked this cover, you'll love *Ninety-nine & a Half Won't Do* and *Penthouse Pauper,* two of my favorites from their 1st couple of albums, along with *I Put A Spell On You, Born On A Bayou, Susie Q, & Green River & Fortunate Son*

I just want to add a song have you ever seen the rain my favorite
Best cover of the Screamin Jay Hawkins classic. CCR have many great songs, a wonderful band to explore.
I agree.
I agree ❤❤
Aye!
Just like with the Nine Inch Nails song 'Hurt' that got owned by Johnny Cash (as Trent Reznor stated it) simply by doing his version of it, this has become CCR's song, without discrediting Jay Hawkins of course.
Angelina Jordan did a massive cover of this song at at nine years old. Screamin' Jay Hawkins would be in awe.
One of the greatest rock-n-roll bands every and one of the greatest rock-n-roll vocalists of all time.
His voice is iconic
CCR is the kind of band people don't recognize the name, but know 10-12 songs of theirs. Incredible band. Incredible.
finally we get to CCR.
CCR is one of the best bands ever, at least 20 classics. They were a hit making machine for their 4 year existence.
They were in existence since 1959 in Junior High. They were CCR for the last 4 years.
A fabulous group!! So many big hit records from 1968 to 1972. Seven of their Singles were #1 Songs here in Canada. Loved them! John Fogerty lead singer Guitarist songwriter and producer. Brilliant man!!
This one gets you in the gut like a punch . loved this for 50 years Fogerty is just to good ☮️
Their version of "Heard it through the grapevine" is excellent, too!!!
I love CCR, his voice is unmistakable and that gritty vibe they have is perfection.

I wonder why he never lived here once he could
John Fogerty ,rasping rock vocals , check out UP AROUND THE BEND or BAD MOON RISING .

Creedence Clearwater Revival
This man had one of best bad ass voices I've ever heard! One of a kind!
Try "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" by CCR but it must be the LONG VERSION please.
Dominique is a real rock chic here young man your very blessed to have her love sent to you both .
Born on the Bayou
CCR music is coming up on being 50yrs. old now. I find it funny that folks are just finding out about them now!!!!!
EL TIEMPO NO ES LINEAL...ALGÚN DÍA LOS SERES HUMANOS PODRÁN EXPRESAR LA VERDAD DE AQUELLO QUE SUS OJOS ESTÁN PRESENCIANDO YO SOY EL QUE SOY ☝️👁
Incredible group, welcome to the club!
CCR is an enormous rabbit hole of amazing music for the two of you to go down!
Fogerty's voice is amazing. Nobody really compares to Creedence; they carved out a space all their own. So many great ones. Try "Suzie Q" next, preferably one of the longer versions (at least 8 minutes).

The powerful, serious as a heart attack, no nonsense voice of John Fogerty. He's also the great lead guitarist. Loved your, from your soul, review.
John Forgerty was all of 23 when this song was released. Think about that. Real music, sophisticated arrangement that still has no equal. Superb guitar playing. And that voice. I was 13 when it came out and have been a fan ever since.
We want more CCR’ reactions
Some other CCR songs you will like: Proud Mary, Have You Ever Seen The Rain?, Bad Moon Rising, Long As I Can See The Light, Fortunate Son, Who'll Stop The Rain?, I Heard It Through The Grapevine and Suzie Q.
Creedence definitely put a spell on you, as they did to us! Saw John Fogerty 2006 NYC, he was as back in the day🎸
CCR gave everyone a singing lesson and a new perspective on Rock n ' Roll when they arrived on the scene.
"Born On The Bayou" is also a great song by CCR and a great vocal by John Fogerty!
"67... I graduated HS !! Keep it com'in !! Love you guys.
Born On The Bayou.
CCR fan since 1969, thanks for reacting to this song which is one of my favorites. Another great CCR song Born on the Bayou, Have you ever seen the Rain , Suzy Q, Fortunate Son 🔥🔥🔥❤️❤️❤️
One of my favorite bands since the 70ths
And this is just off their first album. Their catalog of music is incredible. Enjoy!

Definitely up there as one of the best American bands of all time.
Born on the Bayou is a must listen to song......Totally amazing!

♥ CCR!
I remember walking down the hallway walking by my sister's room and hearing this song come out of her room I was 10 she was 17

They are my favorite band since the 70s , also Queen , it was a great time of music in my youth , greetings from Germany , you 2 are so humble
John Fogerty’s voice is a backwoods howl.
And they're all from California! When I first heard them I thought they were from a swamp somewhere in the south. LOL
@@StraydoggerSame. Thought they were from Louisiana or somewhere down there.😂

CCR Tombstone Shadow, the studio cut or live is a great blues vibe.

I always want at least 3 more verses to this song! John Fogerty's voice is just amazing and then there's the band! So much talent!
My favorite CCR song of all time, though it’s a deep rabbit hole!
Love this version so much. Hands down the best. CCR were definitely special.
I love you two. Great, intelligent reactions!

I'm sure this is their Woodstock performance. It was in the middle of the night.
Creedence Clearwater Revival is the best - 😁
