The shadow's dialogue is actually how yukiko thinks she is. You get to think yourself as a more useful person after you overcome your shadow, because it represents your repressed negativity about yourself.
Actually there's more to it than that.... well, not much, but still: -The birdcage is literally wide open. So in theory, the bird could just waltz on out of there. Yet she stays there, waiting for someone else to pull her out instead of trying to do it herself. -I'm not 100% sure on this, but the Prince uses some support Skills only on himself, never Yukiko.
Shadow Yukiko is a pretty good boss, one of my favourites. Potentially one of the more challenging fights just because it's so early in the game and you don't have a full party or access to many personae/skills yet. It's pretty much a wake up call to make sure you have the mechanics of the game down 'cause, if you don't, you're gonna burn.
If you're born in a country where your life is decided for you, it's super easy to relate to Yukiko. If you don't become a doctor or even a dentist then you're pretty much shunned from your family because they follow traditional rules.
These kids had real problems. Yosuke and the people at work trying to get free rides off him just cause his dad manages the most popular store in town especially when he’s dealing with the grief of his friends death. Chie has a noble heart and works hard to be someone that does right by others but is never taken seriously. Yukiko as you said being chained down by traditions when you have aspirations to do more with your life. Kanji being ridiculed by others for his somewhat feminine hobby’s I relate to him the most. It’s this kind of shit that is the reason toxic masculinity exists. Society beholds you to act that way and when you do your type cast as a thug and when you don’t your type cast as a sissy. There’s just no winning these mental gymnastics. Rise did the one thing that is most admirable about celebrity life. She walked the hell away from it. But doing that is never easy because people will always hound you for your for your celebrity persona. And trying to get one real friend to understand all that was was a character that celebrity wasn’t who you were. Then finally naoto women are not taken seriously in the workplace so she masqueraded as a boy only to not get taken seriously for being a child. All naoto wants is recognition for her capabilities but her coworkers never look past her age and would’ve never looked past her gender.
How many of you noticed Teddy using the exact same phrase Shadow Yukiko said to real Yukiko? It seems Teddy really liked the idea, hey? How I see it, it is rather interesting that Teddie as a Shadow himself does reference other Shadows, in a way to associate him with them before the reveal.
That moment, when teddie quotes shadow yukiko, is the moment he forms his current personality. He was never flirty before that point. It’s some incredibly subtle characterization and i absolutely love it
Just beat this boss on P4 (PS2), and it was damn hard. Took hours. Didn't help I couldn't retreat from the TV (the date after would mean Yukiko's death), and I had no healing or reviving items. Managed to finally overcome it at lvl 16, though. Expert mode. Seems this version was changed to make this fight more bearable. Guess the original got a 'few' complaints, or the developers thought they were a little too unforgiving.
+NASTAR01 I beat it on the original and the new one in the hardest difficulty and they're pretty much the same. Almighty doesn't do that much damage so in both cases it's best not to go for an AOA. In both P4 and G it was really all down to how good you were at fusing that early in the game
I dont think this boss is hard i mean the previous boss against phantom knight (?) is more harder because u need to preserve sp(1day dungeon) and he can 1shot your party
I think this boss got me the closest I've ever been to rage breaking my controller honestly but one of the most satisfying wins after I finally beat her I came so close a couple times just for her to one shot my whole party when she has like 10 hp left but God damn it was satisfying to beat her
Right so, I managed to beat shadow yukiko with like...barely any SP, lots of physical attacks and a few revival beads and a diamond shield or two, and it was the most dang stressful thing I ever did do...oh yeah and it was all on the first day for access to her dungeon because I forgot how many floors the castle was...The amount of adrenaline I had after beating her with my hands so clammy and sweaty was about the most relieving thing I ever did in this awesome game
Trying to beat yukiko on level 11 is not POSSIBLE! Now I have to restart to floor 1 to grind and get better all the way to floor 8 to re- fight yukiko hopefully more persona strength
Aron Marczylo The PS2 version is harder since the delevopers nerf the hell out of the bosses in Persona 4 Golden. Take Shadow Kanji for example, the nice guy and tough guy are weak af compared to the ones on the original P4.
This fight is just SOOOO easy in Golden I've just played through the original game (because I don't have Vita, sadly) and I literally died from this bosses ha... wings? about 4-5 times, then I started grinding basically, in the original: - the boss has no weaknesses - it has tons more health - it summons the prince in the beginning, and he stays for the whole fight without ever escaping - her AOE can wipe your whole party if you don't know what you are doing/if your level is not good enough Plus, you actually get one of the best healers of the game AFTER you beat this boss. The difficulty curve of Atlus games is really funny...
For those who are looking for a strategy on Shadow Yukiko, here's one based on what I've been researching: - She is weak to Bufu - It's not advisable to keep using All-Out Attacks. Instead, just get another chance to attack in the same turn. - She has White Wall, so when she uses it, take the oppurtunity to buff yourself and debuff her, as well as heal and do physical attacks - Later, she will summon the Charming Prince, who will heal her. It's best to kill him first or make him run away. He's weak to Bufu, and use Physical Attacks. - If SY uses Ice Wall on CP, use your Ice Attacks on SY instead, and use your physical attacks on CP. - When you kill CP or he runs away, SY will try to summon another one. No one will come, so use this oppurtunity to do some good damage and finish her off. That's the strategy on how to beat Shadow Yukiko. Tell me in the comments if I made a mistake.
You need to grind pretty much to the brink on Floor 1 before you rescue Chie and then grind a ton more while you work your way up. Only use SP for healing and physical attacks for everything. Buy the maximum amount of TaP that you can and only use them right before you take her on when you're completely out of SP. Pretty much the name of the game for getting that power is reducing damage taken as much as you can (armor/accessory) and only using your SP for healing and nothing else as you get a better usefulness ratio. Say it takes you 3 turns to kill 3 enemies and they hit you 5 times for a total of 50 damage. Well 4 SP heals off 50 damage easily (Dia) else you'd spend 12 SP to down them all for a quick win.
The Infamous TaP soda. You can buy it from the vending machines in the shopping district. It restores like 20 SP and if I remember you can only buy a handful at a time. I think it resets every few days and you can (and should) hold off on Yukiko's dungeon until near the final day so you can hold 10-15 of them.
I'm doing this on the PS2 version and the TaP Sodas and the Second Maid/Natural are really helpful in early to mid game (especially during this part) until you max out the Hermit Social Link. If they are not immune/strong to physical, mainly use physical instead of trying to exploit the weakness. Dia is 3 SP or 4 for 50 HP.
I don’t understand...is the other part trying to say she’s dependent on others? Edit: Nevermind, now I think she wants to be free from all her chains, that’s understandable. It does seem that she is still a bit dependent, though.
Why do you not attack when she's down? Last I remember, atleast on the PS2 version, you still got your turns when attacking like that, though for some reason she never fell out of her cage when I did that ability on her.
+Aron Marczylo Bufu skills don't knock down Shadow Yukiko in the PS2 version of the game. She is weak to Bufu-skills in the Vita version, but her HP is also doubled in the Vita version. Also, when an enemy is down, you do more damage to it. This is why when the protagonist knocks down Shadow Yukiko, he doesn't use an All-Out attack because he can do more damage over time while she is down. But when Chie knocks Shadow Yukiko down, he uses an All-Out attack because Shadow Yukiko's turn is next anyway, and she would get up when it's her turn.
In this video, the turn order was Yu, Yosuke, then Chie, and then Shadow Yukiko. Your party probably had different stats so the turn order was slightly different.
What? The charming prince gone? Shouldn't there be 2 of them? They made this boss easier huh, too bad because shadow Yukiko really is one of the only bosses that I got my ass handed to (at least my noob ass because I don't fully understand the game yet)

basically, in the original:
- the boss has no weaknesses
- it has tons more health
- it summons the prince in the beginning, and he stays for the whole fight without ever escaping
- her AOE can wipe your whole party if you don't know what you are doing/if your level is not good enough
Plus, you actually get one of the best healers of the game AFTER you beat this boss.
The difficulty curve of Atlus games is really funny...
The dungeon is hard, if you speed run. You have to grind and fuse a lot of combinations just to progress

I’m pretty sure the charming prince is only weak to bufu in persona 4, not persona 4 golden.
Why don't you use all-out attack? I haven't played P4 so I don't know if it ends everyones turn or something.
That's the reason, and also because he was doing more damage with Arm Chopper than he would with All Out Attack
Kevv Wang until you get 4 party members, an all out attack does not do much more damage than a normal attack

I don't know how you get so strong before this fight.
