From 74-78 he was one of the 5 best drummers on the planet, and even Peter said in his book, the coke and booze were getting to him and Ace, but the Phantom of the Park movie is what made him and Ace miserable and Catman was tired in general, touring and like he admitted that the drugs and alcohol were going to kill him, if he didn't get a break!!! That's when Paul and Gene wanted to originally kick him out of the band, but they agreed to all do solo albums!!!!

The designs were extensions of the people and their personalities. Once the original lineup fractured it wasn't the same, even if 'better' musicians filled in.

These guys can say what they want about Peter's drumming once they got huge, but the fact remains that Peter's drumming was the only instrument NOT redone on ALIVE I..As a drummer for the past 38 yrs, i can say that his drumming was tight, never sped up or slowed down, and more importantly, stood up well for the music on ALIVE I. Those 1st 3 albums before ALIVE I, clearly show his hunger and tight drumming, especially on my favorite of those albums, Dressed to Kill..

They definitely modeled themselves after the Beatles early on, even down to the personalities… even if the bass & rhythm guitar duties were switched up (Paul=Paul, Gene=John, Peter=Ringo, Ace=George.) It would’ve been cool if Ace would’ve played along with his “George Harrison” role in the band and sang lead vocals on some of those early songs he wrote or co-wrote (Cold Gin, Parasite, Strange Ways, Getaway… could even hear his lazy style vocals on less obvious songs he co-wrote like Comin Home and Flaming Youth.)
Ace said he was the one that told Paul to draw a star on his eye. Ace said Paul had a circle on his eye like the dog from The Little Rascals 😂. Paul skipped that part.
