Hello, before I bought this album I had read that it was their greatest to that time. I bought in 1984, being 17 years old. Music and texts to me even then sounded like they were intended for an audience aged around 12 years. "God of thunder, and rock´n ro-oo-oll." Plus those additional noises on that record... I liked best Alive I + II, Ace´s solo album, Dynasty, Music From The Elder (yes, still) and Creatures Of The Night. After "Crazy Nights" I gave up buying their records. Now I listen to the rest for free, but it seems more like a chore than a pleasure. About Paul´s book: With all its rantings about other people I won´t buy it. On UA-cam I had heard what Paul was saying about the late Mark St. John, a man who cannot defend himself anymore, and it was the opposite of what Mark said in an interview in the year 1988. And listening to his fantastic instrumental album "Magic Bullet Theory" I do not believe that he was mentally "the shortest pencil in a pencil box" (or something like that). In my opinion Vinnie and Mark weren´t allowed to fully develop their potential on Kiss albums, because Paul and Gene didn´t want anyone to outshine them. The so called drug addictive alcoholics were still better than the delusional narcissistic other two idiots!!!! Team Peter and Ace always
Funny how Gene and Paul really love to bring out all the faults and flaws of Ace and Peter, but im sure it was nothing but praise back then. Lol. Destroyer is a great album, thank you Bob Ezrin. Rock n Roll over was a weak follow up and Love Gun was much stronger, but kiss went to absolute shit after Love Gun.
Ur insane. Rn ROver is cool .. and Love Gun is as good.. Destroyer is not as good as these, nor Alive II I like it, but the others are better.. I think Dressed to Kill is just as good.. and Alive is better.. Eddie Kramer
Look I get it. I’ve had coworkers who after a couple years I realize I can’t fucking stand them. I travel with people for work, share hotels, flights, long distance drives etc. I’ve also been in bands and been on tour.. So I KIND of get it. People you think are cool/are your friends after a couple years of over exposure you realize hey! This guy is actually a fucking shmuck and I can’t stand them! That’s what happens to bandmembers/friends/coworkers a lot of times. What I think is NOT cool is constantly talking shit about your former band mates, particularly when they’re partially responsible for your success. It’s not hard to keep your shit talking to yourself.
Absolutely when I became a full fledged Kiss fan, at 8 years old...was listening to KC and the Cumquat band, Bay City Cocksmokers at the time, a refreshing change
Gene is so petty when he's talking about Beth. He goes out of his way to DIS credit his band mate Peter Criss, "He only contributed a line or two." "Peter had trouble singing it." He sang it well enough, it was Kiss's biggest hit! Gene, what an a-hole.
Destroyer is by far the best Kiss album in their canon. RnR over was a big step back. Flaming Youth & Sweet Pain are 2 of the best deep cuts from the band ever. And as much as they shit on Peter, his drumming is crucial to the bands sound. thank god they never got the "Bonham style" drummer Paul always wanted.
Paul Stanley can write whatever he did, who sung Black Diamond, Hard Luck woman, Beth, Strange Ways, Nothing to lose, and need I go on!!! Team Peter and Ace always
Because, they are lying scumbags!!! And, you say the other two? Peter and Ace were amazing and fantastic and the real talent and heart and soul of the original lineup!!! The real two
Yes. As hard I tried I couldn't get my mom to take me to see them when they came around in 76. I did see Ace in high school when he was touring without a record contract in 85. I also saw Paul on his 88 solo tour. Saw them on Revenge. Then finally saw the original lineup on the Psycho tour. Sadly the only one that was unimpressive was the latter
And yes!!! Bob Ezrin said Peter did write Beth, and he helped him structure it, Paul is still full of shit, and Peter was such a great guy he put Stan Pendridge on the credits!!! Fuck off Gene
It's funny how Gene tries to take credit for the "devil's horns" that heavy metal fans throw up in concerts everywhere when he had nothing to do with it.
Gene and Paul are too drama queens. Ace and Peter gave them spark they never figured out how to mesh their control freak ways. That’s why real KISS fans recognize the 73-80 KISS as the band.
Of course the listener didn't like the way they sounded. They didn't have the right producer on first three. Thats a no-brainer. Bob Ezrin knew exactly how to make them sound and ultimately define their abilities as musicians. If Bob Ezrin had produced their first album. it would have been a much different result and the reception would have been far greater.
Apparently, the two delusional greedy assholes, even control the documentaries and as always never let Peter and Ace tell their side, or as I call it, the truth!!!! Lol 🤔
Genie there's plenty of drummers out there that don't make big decisions in the band back then in the industry and now especially early on or later on for that matter they just played the drums so leave it at that. Should be thrilled that you have a voice like Peter's in your band and oh yeah he has the ability to play drums. Donkey Kong so Peter wasn't good at arranging songs at least he was doing something right in the drum Department cuz if he wasn't y'all would have gotten rid of him a long time before Dynasty
Strangely, all Peter does is keep time during the “weird time signatures” (bars of 3) that Gene is describing. That’s what actually keeps the tune rocking. Just like Vinnie Colaiuta does with Sting’s odd time compositions, locking odd time phrasing into a straight time feel makes it a pop song.
Seems as if you edited all the Peter/Ace slamming from Gene and Paul’s books they’d be three chapters long and boring as hell. All they do is constantly shit on Ace and Peter.
Every Kiss video comment section is identical: Ace and Peter can do no wrong and Gene and Paul were wrong, or assholes, or whatever. Y’all watched Gene and Paul for decades after, they’re clearly the base of the band songwriting, and Paul is clearly the only one who ever treated KISS like it was his endgame. All of them sound like they wasted this to some degree except Paul, and he’s so admit-tingly miserable as full of himself that there’s no such thing as enough to feel content. Tons of misery in this party band, and fans still magnify that shit hard. Great series, thank you!!
Piss on Paul Stanley!!!! This is a smear campaign against Peter and Ace!!!! Paul is jealous that both of them were great and definitely of Peter singing a bunch of their best songs 🎵 ever!!!! Disgusting, Peter and Ace still to this day, have nothing bad to say about or care about these other two greedy scumbags!! Team Peter and Ace always
Yes, because that is a fuckin joke and lie!!! Peter was amazing and definitely talented and technically sound and underrated by far!!! U-tube old school Kiss and watch Peter Criss in his prime and solos even, then talk shit about a living legend drummer!!!! Team Peter!!!
Its painfully obvious Paul was and still is a very, very insecure man. Everybody has a friend who can't take an ounce of criticism without getting hurt and Paul wears it.
He was born without an ear and was in the music business. That in itself is a valid reason to be a little insecure. Top that off with the ridicule a young child gets for such a deformity, and it’s pretty easy to u detest and where some insecurity might come from. However, Paul didn’t let it stop him. He had to overcome it. And he’s vulnerable, just like you are.
Nobody needs to tell Peter Criss and Ace legends how to play their instruments? Literally, Paul and Gene are delusional and jealous of Peter and Ace as always!!!! Bob Ezrin said many times that Peter and Ace were amazing!!!
You are absolutely correct!!! And, it is ridiculous, Peter and Ace were amazing and fantastic and the real talent and heart and soul of the original lineup, that's why Paul and Gene to this day still bash a living legend drummer and guitarist 🎸!!! Pathetic
10:45- Gene we all saw the great Carol Kaye try to show you bass parts! Stanley ruined his reputation by singing to tracks for years while criticizing others for doing it.
The funny thing is, Bob Ezrin told Peter and Ace the way he wanted it to sound' but who shined like a mother fucker and actually played it? Peter and Ace, duh 🙄
Ace recently said in an interview that Ezrin did bring a replacement guitar player to play on some of the songs on the album because Ezrin thought his solos were crap.
Paul says Peter couldn't carry a tune in a bucket????? Lol 🤦♂️ Is he sure him and Gene never did drugs 🤔? Because, he sounds like someone who had a bad acid trip in the 70's!!! Lol 😂
The only reason the band was accused of being devil worshippers is because of Gene’s curiosity in cannibalism. Thank God, he wasn’t willing to find out.
Never liked the drums on this album. Compare the drums on Alive 2 to those on Destroyer concerning Detroit rock city to get what I mean.. But Beth was a beauty.
These documentaries always make laugh, because Paul and Gene always find a way to make them look like brilliant musicians and Peter and Ace look like shit? Pathetic, because in reality Peter and Ace were amazing and the real talent and heart and soul of the original lineup 👏!!!!
Ya know, I think Paul has a point about his limited guitar playing. I've been in bands that tried to write originals and it seems like the biggest trouble we had was that we (and I include myself) would take a simple riff that was decent, then keep adding stuff to it until we were overplaying. What was a catchy little riff would turn into "let's see how many notes we can cram into this short space." Or, "Lets put in 10 key changes before the first verse."
Paul and Gene don't have a point about anything!!!! Peter and Ace were amazing and fantastic and the real talent and heart and soul of the original lineup, period!!! Conversion over
Gene’s equating banging groupies with being successful or a rebel comes across as weird, creepy and sociopathic. It’s not like he has sex for fun but because he has a sort of sick addiction. Ugh.
Gene is full of shit on that Beth thing as well, he is trying to make it look like he had something to do with Beth, and Bob Ezrin has said that Peter did write Beth, but he helped him structure it, fact!!!
Paul once again is full of shit!!! The early albums didn't sell, but they were selling out shows!!! My point is, the original album later on people realized how great it was!!! Deuce, Strutter, Black Diamond, Cold Gin, and Firehouse!!! Come on
Say what you will about Paul and Gene but the fact of the matter is, they were the music. Ace had ungodly potential talent, not only as a guitarist but also a songwriter and he squandered it due to laziness. Peter was simply a giant head case who constantly created friction in the band because he was likely suffering from an untreated personality disorder. Beth is a beautiful song but it’s because of Penridge and Ezrin rather than Peter. Gene is just a narcissist and a god in his own mind. In Gene’s head, he is a genius surrounded by the idiocy of other people. But in his defense, he was the other half of the songs and he was as committed as Paul, though for different reasons. Paul has an enormous ego and is incredibly self-righteous, but at the end of the day, KISS is what KISS is because of him, more than any other member. Paul has kept it going. KISS survived the 80s because of him. Does it get old, listening to him drone on? Of course. But if anyone in the band has earned bragging rights, it’s Paul.
Try again, Peter and Ace bailed them two delusional idiots out by winning the jobs!!!! Peter was amazing and by far had the best damn voice in the band and Ace guitar playing was phenomenal!!!! If wasn't for Peter and Ace they would still be living in a scumbag apartment playing with Wicked fuckin Lester!!!! Lol
Thanks Dr. Phil for summing it up!!! Now, let's tell the truth, Bob Ezrin has said and confirmed as well as Stan Pendridge that Peter was the primary writer of Beth, fact!!! Peter was such a good guy, that he included Stan Pendridge on the credits, Bob Ezrin helped him structure it is all!!!! Also, Peter and Ace were amazing and fantastic and the real talent and heart and soul of the original lineup, fact get over it!!!!
Gene and Paul are so jealous of Beth. Paul goes on about the many takes of the vocal part, that's all a part of recording process isn't it. So Paul and Gene's recorded parts were all one takes? Telling such stories only weaken their legacy in my opinion.
I think "Destroyer" is shit. The heavy songs dont sound as heavy as they should, and Ezrin used WAY too many cutsie effects on the record. Used more sparsley, they have more impact on the listener. Even God of Thunder doesnt sound as heavy as it could've if Eddie Kramer had produced it. "Rock and Roll Over" is their best sounding record with the 4 originals IMO.
Amen bro. I never liked destroyer and quite frankly i never understood why many people praise it to be such a great album. First three, rock and roll over and love gun, that's kiss.
Bill Aucoin had to send Peter to drum lessons (I don't remember the name). As next Bob Ezrin had to practise with him how to play "Detroit Rock City". (And how to sing "Beth"). But Peter was not much interested in practicing and improving his talent. Everyone needs help. Instead, Peter became "very emotional". Bill Aucoin even mentioned "paranoid". (The interview is on You Tube).
There's no doubt it was a great album, but let's stop with some of the superfluous superlatives. Detroit Rock City? Check. God of Thunder? Check. King Of the Night Time World? Filler. Flaming Youth? Filler. Sweet Pain? Filler. Beth? Certainly did well, but was NEVER a KISS song. Great Expectations? Crap filler! Shout It Out Loud? A weak attempt at writing the next Rock 'n' Roll All Nite. That crap at the end of side two? Not even an attempt at hiding the fact it was filler. So, a decent album, but it was no "Revenge".

Paul and Gene have “bored” themselves into having net worths of hundreds of millions of dollars. But hey, “drugs are fun”.
For me, this album was the pinnacle of KISS. Bob Ezrin certainly did get the best out of them with this release, Ezrin also has a tendency to over produce albums, but this is their best. I saw KISS three times, the Destroyer tour was the second time seeing them in concert and they were larger than life on that tour, the songs from this album and the stage show and props were incredible...the best KISS ever.
Jealous of you
I prefer the Eddie Kramer albums much more.. He did 4 great albums with KISS .. Ezrin made one.. fk Revenge n fk the Elder.. Kramer was far better for KISS.. even doin Ace's 78 album
Hey Gene, make sure you never give Peter any compliments
45:40 Geezer Butler used the so called devil's hand sign on stage as early as 1971.
One of KISS greatest record! So great production. This is the real KISS
The sweet and low bit is priceless ...
Your absolutely 💯 percent right!!! I mean Gene can't be that frickin damn stupid, can he? 70's, Rock and Roll and cocaine went hand in hand ✋️!!!
Yeah I don’t believe that story ONE BIT! That sounded very scripted! There’s no way he didn’t know why the mirror was on the console! I call BS!
I have played with many drummers over the years. Some claiming to be "advanced". Probably five percent of them can actually count.
From day one I loved Sweet Pain and Flaming Youth along with the whole album. It's still my favorite, along with ALIVE.
I guess Gene and Paul never forgave Peter for singing their top charting song!!! And all the other gems as well
I think it's more Paul who has an issue with it
@@JokersWild70it is. The way Gene talks about it is very direct and matter of fact. Paul sounds like he's choking back rage. Paul is really petty and this is an itch be can never scratch
Oh, yes! Let’s remove Paul’s song from the catalogue and keep Peter’s. That’ll be great.
Paul loves him some Paul!!! Scumbag, Peter and Ace were amazing and fantastic and Paul hated the fact that 3 of their most popular and fan favorite songs, Beth, Hard Luck woman and Black Diamond, my boy Peter sung and knocked it out of the park!!! The so called drug addictive alcoholics were still better than the delusional narcissistic other two idiots!!!! Team Peter and Ace always
@kevinchandler179 paul wrote two of those. Im sure he doesnt mind.
This is a really great series...nice work so far!
yeah, it's well produced/ edited.. It takes a lot of work
Funny how Gene and Paul really love to bring out all the faults and flaws of Ace and Peter, but im sure it was nothing but praise back then. Lol. Destroyer is a great album, thank you Bob Ezrin. Rock n Roll over was a weak follow up and Love Gun was much stronger, but kiss went to absolute shit after Love Gun.
Ur insane. Rn ROver is cool .. and Love Gun is as good.. Destroyer is not as good as these, nor Alive II
I like it, but the others are better.. I think Dressed to Kill is just as good.. and Alive is better.. Eddie Kramer
@@vaekkriinhart4347 what????? Alive and Destroyer were fucking amazing. RnROver was cool, nowhere near as great as those 2 albums. Lol
The only thing that was not fixed on Kiss Alive was Peter*s vokals and drums👍😎👍
#1 KISS song by Peter, #1 solo album by Ace. Yeah Gene and Paul never mention that
Rock and roll over was very good and underrated!!! Hard Luck woman was so great that if that was the only great song 🎵 on the album it was worth it!!!
Kiss got no airplay for the first three albums that's why they did not sell a lot. They are my favorites
just wild times !!!
Should he lie then? I’m pretty sure he’s just telling the truth.
It’s like attack attack attack you and gene aren’t perfect
It's like a Peter Criss roast!! Easy does it!!
And, the Catman and Ace don't deserve this smear campaign, frickin disgusting!!!!!
Honestly it makes you wonder why Gene and Paul didn't sack the other 2 after day 1 if they were that bad!!!
Because, they are lying scumbags!!! And, you say the other two? Peter and Ace were amazing and fantastic and the real talent and heart and soul of the original lineup!!! The real two
Gene bashing peter over beth. When beth was kiss's biggest hit. Gotta rip him regardless. I luv these guys but also find them to be assholes
One of my biggest regrets in life was not seeing Kiss in the 1970's.
Me too but I saw the og Lineup in 2000 , Im 54 now and it was the greatest night of my life besides when my kids were born
And yes!!! Bob Ezrin said Peter did write Beth, and he helped him structure it, Paul is still full of shit, and Peter was such a great guy he put Stan Pendridge on the credits!!! Fuck off Gene
The best album ever for me
Absolute best album cover
It was a great album, but the original album was the best!!! Just my thoughts
Bob Ezrin is like an anime teacher training an anime protagonist to be stronger.
And, Peter and Ace were 80 percent of the talent!!!! Lol
The KISS records before Destroyer were below average. Destroyer is a masterpiece. Bob Ezrin is a badass
Why are Gene and Paul talking. Where is Peter and Ace's voice.
Check out my (UN) REAL KISSTORY, all of Kiss are talking ;)
Recording “Flaming Youth”, including the original version, “Mad Dog” begins @33:30
Yet, Peter sung Beth, Black Diamond, Hard Luck woman and Houlagan, and Strange Ways!!! 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🦁
Wait, Wagner played the guitars?......but Gene said Bob worked it out with Ace on DRC?
Wagner played on “ Flaming Youth” and “ Sweet Pain “….. and played acoustic on “ Beth “…
Find it hard to believe that Peter was/is that inept?
Sounds like it depends on what day you got him.
KISStory according to Paul. Funny how Tom Snyder obviously loved Ace and didn't like Paul.
@@stiffrichard2816 Tom Snyder never said that.
@@stiffrichard2816 yeah but deal with Paul and Ace in a band and Tom Synder wouldn’t be having such a great time.
I prefer the original Destroyer recording. Something be about the remixed Destroyer Resurrected just doesn't sound right.
37:45 Shout it Out Loud
WHY isn't this song on Double Platinum (!) wtf
makes no sense
Couldnt rap his head around Ace wanting to play cards with friends? Gee wonder why? The way he got bashed on even when he wasnt there
Nobody needs to tell Peter Criss and Ace legends how to play their instruments? Literally, Paul and Gene are delusional and jealous of Peter and Ace as always!!!! Bob Ezrin said many times that Peter and Ace were amazing!!!
Gene and Paul constantly bash Ace and Peter. Yeah they did reckless things but it makes them sound allmighty.
If it wasn’t for Paul Stanley this band would have disappeared in 1979.
Gene totally misquoted his own fkng song, Great Expectations.. 38:39 The song does not mention Paul
Paul is so jealous of Peter the more I hear him the more pathetic he sounds.
💯 percent agree with you!!! It's ridiculous and disrespectful to Peter and Ace, all the bashing!!!
Lol 🤦♂️
Is he sure him and Gene never did drugs 🤔? Because, he sounds like someone who had a bad acid trip in the 70's!!! Lol 😂
Bob Ezrin didn't write Beth!!!! He has said himself he helped structure it, get over it Stanley!!! Lol
The only reason the band was accused of being devil worshippers is because of Gene’s curiosity in cannibalism. Thank God, he wasn’t willing to find out.
I think Alive II is their best album but Destroyer a solid #2
So, I guess Peter was sweet and Ace was low? Lol
Peter was mediocre drummer and Ace was a mediocre guitar player. I love KISS but this is the truth.
@Carlos-xz3vi Apparently, you don't know the definition of truth then!!!!
Conversion over
KNow what? Paul is an asshole. His constant berating of Peter Criss is unfair and is fueled more by animosity than truth.
Oof.....😬 welp🤷♂️
Gene’s equating banging groupies with being successful or a rebel comes across as weird, creepy and sociopathic. It’s not like he has sex for fun but because he has a sort of sick addiction. Ugh.
My least favorite KISS album. The guitars have no grit and everything is buried in too much reverb.
I like Paul's book better because it documents their career better than Gene's does. Gene's is still funny and great though
Gene is full of shit on that Beth thing as well, he is trying to make it look like he had something to do with Beth, and Bob Ezrin has said that Peter did write Beth, but he helped him structure it, fact!!!
Gene would be a decent human if not for his gigantic ego
One of my least favorites... prefer the raw rock n roll stuff
So, Peter and Ace were drug addicts, and Gene and Paul were sex addicted, what is the point of bashing Peter and Ace all the time then? Lol
Hope 97warlock doesnt bore me with his useless opinions
They are full of crap - Peter Criss took drum lessons from Gene Krupa- nobody had to help him with his drum parts 😂
Bill Aucoin had to send Peter
to drum lessons
(I don't remember the name).
