In an interview Betty White said that Allen Ludden was the best that's why she never remarried after his death. Paraphrasing, I think she said "why marry again when you had the best?"
Richard scored his 50th H/H match today! Absolutely amazing the number of times he's been selected and the number of times he has matched contestants. Truly in a league of his own. Interestingly, though, if you look at the actual percentages, it seems like a contestant would have a better chance of winning with almost any other celebrity, and yet they continue to favor Richard. Here's the updated leader board showing the 9 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy: Orson - 100% (3 wins in 3 attempts). Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). Betty - 52.2% (12 wins in 23 attempts). Charles - 45.7% (16 wins in 35 attempts). Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts). Fannie - 41.7% (5 wins in 12 attempts). Bert - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts). Richard - 31.8% (50 wins in 157 attempts). Brett - 30.8% (8 wins in 26 attempts). *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 344, excluding the lost/missing episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325. (As per MatchGameProductions, these episodes "are nowhere to be found and also aren't in the Goodson/Todman Library. Sadly, looks like they are lost forever!")
Hoot Gibson (Brett's suggestion) was a rodeo cowboy turned western actor who died in 1962 at the age of 70. The interesting link here is that Fannie will name-check him in her 1987 book "Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe" --- "Most of those guards are pretty simpleminded old boys ... they'll go to a picture show and see Tom Mix or Hoot Gibson and then they come back and ride around the farm, pulling their guns, trying to be cowboys."
I just love Richard... he was no nonsense . This show really wasn’t for his type of character but he tolerated craziness. His sanity and wit was needed. After he left the show I watched and some of you can say what you will but the show was never the same without him. I love when he says..” why didn’t you trust me?” His wife was a blessed woman... such a decent man.
When Dawson got the "family feud" gig, he was overworked taping shows for Match Game and Family Feud at the same time so he tried to get out of his contract but match game wouldn't let him get out. There was also resentment from the other panelists that he was always getting picked for the Super Matches and he also hated the star wheel. They could have at least lightened the load for him like make him a recurring Match Game panelist instead of totally getting rid of him.
@@kristabrewer6736Let it go it girl. Being bitter isn't good for anyone. It was 50 years ago. Richard was the star of the show and it wasn't the same without him. Accept it and find peace.
Regarding "tuxedo"...I think that some contestants were very nervous and that nervousness lead to a temporary "brain freeze" and they truly could not think clearly.
I noticed that earlier this week she said they were made by Lapidus (sp?) -- and the previous week, Richard Deacon said the shirt he was wearing was created by the same person. Jim Lapidus was a costume designer. Here's an article about him: costumedesignersguild.com/legacy-members-enjoying/jim-lapidus/
I LOATHE questions about the Bible because they always like to make fun of it. But even so, when someone doesn't understand a question, they should be allowed back on the show
"Tuxedo"?! The answer "desert" was better. I haven't seen the panel's answers yet, but I'll say "diving suit", and now let's see how I do..............Hmm - I'd've done as well as she did.
ROFL!! Another good thou, love Gene getting mad at the camera for switching off of him. ;0) OH! I can't breath, too good! Not that Gene could have taken Tuxedo being her second answer even if she understood it. I just don't know why, and maybe Gene can't in the first place, ask for a little explaining of it if need. Strange Richard and Gene have almost the same suit on in this episode.. ;0) Remember this is an after dinner taping.. ;0) Wait! John and Mary question?! There hasn't been one of those since MG73.. ;0)
Hahahhaha Richard says,” I feel like I’ve been to Sunday School “ when Gene tells the whole Moses story . He did a great job. I think the Ten Commandments had been made by that time as well... not sure.
The poor girl- doesn’t know a thing about the Bible. Bless her heart- she doesn’t know the parting of the sea story. The writers think everyone read the Bible.
The audience point blank refuses to laugh at Gary Burghoff. I'm feeling a kind of affinity with him. We both think we're hilarious, but others don't always agree.
TheGadgetPanda he’s not funny... he’s annoying . I think he would be funny if he’d stop trying to outdo Richard. It’s quite obvious. I’ve heard him say a funny few things when it came natural but when he does that” I’m the third wheel on a date” character type humor it comes off fake and like a try hard.
ROFL! Another fine after dinner episode! ;0) ROFL! Love ya Gene! ;0) ROFL! Love ya Fannie! ;0) Love the entrances, silliness, voices, acting and the fun Gene! ;0) Kim Tone.. ;0) A tux! ;0) Be nice Brett.. aqua lung.. life jacket.. ;0) steal.. buy it.. make it.. Umbrella.. Look it is rejecting it, even the paper bin doesn't want it.. I tried.. ;0) Did Gene and Richard decided to wear the same suit today.. ;0) Paint.. crayons.. They always gave me crayons.. General Lee saw Grant standing there and thought he was a butcher so he just handed him his sword.. ;0) ROFL! Love ya Fannie! :0)
She *did* get a second chance on the Moses question. They let her change her answer from desert to tuxedo. It's very rare that they don't hold a contestant to her first response. I think they allowed it this time because a desert is clearly not something one can wear, which is evidence she didn't hear/understand the question properly. Unfortunately, tuxedo was a lousy answer.
If I'd been in charge of the show I would have asked for donations for charity in exchange for the silly cards, sketches, etc. to raise money for a different theme each month. (homelessness, boys and girls clubs, hurricane relief, etc.)
This game show was supposed to be comedic to make you laugh. People watched these shows to forget about their problems and the world's problems and just be amused and entertained.
That was interesting wording regarding the Moses question. A trick huh? No I'm pretty sure everything in the Bible is real. I'm guessing whomever wrote that wasn't much of a believer. But, to each his own. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Pam wasn't a Theology student at UCLA. LOL.
It was sad looking at contestant Pam's face when she knew that she was going to lose and because the celebrities wanted to make jokes rather than try to match her answer. It seems sometimes these people are trying so hard to be funny they unintentionally or intentionally screw the contestants. I know it's just a game, but it should be fair.
Look them up… that’s what I did. It is interesting looking at their past achievements. CNR was a Tony Winner. 🏆 Most of them had long singing, acting, and/or comedian roles.
Allen Ludden seemed like a nice man.

Gene seemed a little hard on him about the "lay out" question. :(
He let them all sleep with his wife, so they liked him.

2. Brett Somers
3. Gary Burghoff
4. Elayne Joyce
5. Richard Dawson
6. Fannie Flagg
I'm surprised no one has commented on the paper airplane that Richard made.

El Bombo in this episode.
Betty's second appearance of the week....see previous episode...

Angelofmusic Wonder the 10 Commandments movie was made in 1956. So the movie was 18 years old at this point in MG history.
I think that was Allen that said I feel like I've been to Sunday School.. Or at least it sounds like Allen even thou the camera is on Richard.. ;0)
Wow....Richard with his hand all over that woman's rear end knowing that her daughters were in the audience.....that's a bit much.
That is not surprising to me at all

The contestant named Pam looks 13! She looks like a kid. I think people have to be 18 at least, to be allowed to play on game shows.
She looked like someone in senior high school.

Two entirely different shades but similar.
