I don't know where the practice came from, but North American colonists and settlers did use shed dog hair to make sweaters. The inner hairs are very warm, while the outer ('guard') hairs are water-resistant. There are spinners now who will spin hair from your dog or cats with other wool into yarn so you can make something from it. Our ancestors figured out how to use every resource they could.
I generally don't like questions that are super obvious with one definitive answer that all 6 celebs will say, but I'll make an exception when it's funny and involves a member of the MG family. This was funny despite being a virtual slam-dunk 6-match question. (I guess "shoe size" might be another logical answer, but c'mon, they talk about Fannie's bust every week she's on!) Poor contestant must have been nervous and had a brain freeze. Or else she doesn't watch MG at home.
"Queen Elizabeth"?! Are you serious, Freddy? Didn't you notice how quickly Richard wrote his answer? How could he have written "Elizabeth" in such a short time? It had to be only three or four letters. "Bee" was the first thing that occurred to me.
You/we have no idea what the stage sound was like. They hear through separate monitors, we are hearing through a mixing board/p.a. Plus not everyone was hip to that trick at all.
It is true you can hear their writing as the marker writes the answer. But when you are the player your nerves get the better of you. Also, Richard was British.
Richard scores his 55th H/H match. Here's the updated leader board showing the 9 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy: Orson - 100% (3 wins in 3 attempts). Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). Betty - 54.2% (13 wins in 24 attempts). Charles - 45.7% (16 wins in 35 attempts). Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts). Fannie - 41.7% (5 wins in 12 attempts). Bert - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts). Richard - 32.7% (55 wins in 168 attempts). Brett - 30.8% (8 wins in 26 attempts). *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 358, excluding the lost/missing episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325. (As per MatchGameProductions, these episodes "are nowhere to be found and also aren't in the Goodson/Todman Library. Sadly, looks like they are lost forever!")
A very interesting set of coincidences happens on this episode. The first question is BLANK Opera. One of the possible answers was "A Night at the Opera", then Gene asked the player whose name was Fred "Are you Ready Freddy" and the the next Super Match was Queen BLANK. Is this remarkable? I highly suggest everyone watch for these in this episode. The progressive rock band Queen had not written or recorded the album "A Night at the Opera" yet (This Match Game episode was in 1974). "A Night at the Opera" was recorded in August-November 1975. Just a pure set of coincidences.
If I may..."A Night at the Opera" was a thing WAYYY before Queen. As far back as 1935 at least. I know it was a Marx Bros. thing, and was a play or something I think.
If you've ever seen Fannie Flagg's IMDB profile (www.imdb.com/name/nm0280840/?ref_=nv_sr_1), you see that she was a writer for that show in 1960 and starred in the "new" version in 1974...
That was a running joke with Fannie. Adrienne hadn't been on the show for very long. They knew it was safe to joke with Fannie about that. Not being sure how Adrienne would respond, they went with the safe bet.
I wonder who has the higher "IQ", Fannie or Adrienne?!! I guess the way Adrienne holds her answer, perhaps it's Fannie... And just love Fannie's response to Brett!!
@@kathycobb4451 It seems rather apparent that my original comment went waaay over your head. If you notice my fine use of parentheses (look it up) around the term IQ, that was sort of a give away that my meaning was perhaps something else. And I'm guessing maybe you didn't even watch this episode. So before you jump to conclusions (and jump down my throat) perhaps it would behoove you to do some watching. Upon doing so, maybe my meaning will become more clear to you. Pay close attention to what's being said in the clip. I'll even be generous and give you the appropriate time to begin, 6:35, to save you some trouble, as your time is probably precious to you. This way, perhaps you can use that time saved to do some jumping elsewhere. Do you have any lakes nearby??
Intelligence has little to do with this program. Many of the questions are recycled old jokes, lines about movies, takes on people in the news (Billy Carter , Euell Gibbons, Zsa Zsa) and have nothing what so ever to do with intelligence.
Aside from the usual sexual references, I found that the 2 ladies (Fannie and Adrienne) were extremely charming, down-to-earth, and delightful. The same goes for Jo Ann Worley, in other episodes. ❤️❤️❤️ 3 hearts, for all 3 ladies.👍 When you have that inner "GODLY mature BEAUTY", that will project outward. 👍 Tony, an old school guy 62-year-old Black US AIR FORCE VET ✈️🇱🇷 And GOD-FEARING PATRIOT 🙏
I'm surprised at his antics on MG. He was really a pretty decent actor, at least as Radar. Not much else obviously, that why B-listers end up on game shows! : )
@@UberLummox I said it in another comment on a previous episode, that he is so annoying that I can`t wait till C.N.R. comes back because they keep on bringing Gary back to fill in. Every time they come to him I fast forward thru his answers and go to the next person. He acts like he`s trying to fit in with the rest like he`s trying to be like Brett, and I just want to slap him every time he thinks he`s being funny asking Gene to repeat the question. Wow, at 7:09, Brett even gives contestant Bev a really good hint, and she still blows the answer.

@6:36 - Love Fannie's fake laugh and strategic "nose scratch" after finding out the joke is making fun of her IQ score.
Yes I caught that. 😂😂😂😂

Since when is wool SWEATER a bad answer??? Enough to get booed?
It's not like wool sweaters weren't popular in the '70s!
13:19 That one person in the audience likes the contestant's answer but quickly changes her mind when the audience doesn't agree. lol
"Yay!... No!"
Gene wears a vegetable in his lapel seven years before Peter Davison would be infamous for doing it on Doctor Who, LOL.
Respectfully Don't know what the devil you're talking about, don't wanna know
Who?
That was an ooooolllld joke, probably from earliest vaudeville days.
Peter Davison wore a celery

Adrienne's set looked great in Playboy. (at least that's what my friends told me).

So glad they taped these. They age so well.
Wonder why no one said "vacuum" to the elephant question!!?
Cute!
king David was my first thought before RICHARD said it
I remember my adolescent lust for Adrienne Barbeau! 😍❤️😍❤️

Little David? Who is that?
I'd like to know, too. LOL
Little David was the nickname of an American mortar, used for test firing bombs in WWII.

Encino started later, the joke of getting together started about 20-30 episodes ago.
