      @@Magoo7956 it’s been great. I’m now an E4 and I’ve definitely learned a lot. Reaping and sowing as much opportunities as possible. The isn’t so bad, just some small thing that can irk you here and there but if you tuck your head low hit the ground running and just focus on what you have to do, it’s not bad. I was an AMH 2 from 1966 -1970. Worked on the H 34 in Pensacola, then finished the last 2 years on the Forrestal in RVAH-13 squadron working night shift on the RA5C Vigilante. Was a flight shift troubleshooter during flight ops. Tough but enjoyable job.

      @@joeyjudge5582 When I was in they broke down AM into AMS AMH and AME. For structural, hydraulic, and electrical and support. S and H usually worked together. I retired 8 years ago after working for 26 years as a hydraulic specialist. So yes, there are many opportunities in all of those ratings. Good luck, I thoroughly enjoyed my 4 years in the Navy.

      You can probably get a copy of his DD 214 form from the Veteran’s Administration. Just go to the local VA office and tell them what you want. Also, the guys at your local VFW can help. They know how to get things done. Your brothers DD 214 will list what schools he went to and all the info for the time he was in. I think you can send a request to the VA for information. It may take a while, but I think that will work. Good luck, hope this will help.

    • @monsoonthagoon
      @monsoonthagoon 4 роки тому +1

      It's about where they need AMs. When I went to school out of 28 sailors, I and one other guys got ship orders, the rest went to squadrons. You'll learn about organizational and intermediate level. If you want to work on the aircraft, keep your fingers crossed for O-level. If you want to work on components on/in the aircraft, pray for I-level. Personally I'd love to leave the ship and go to an FRC like the one they mentioned, Point Mugu. You'll learn a lot and have a lot of free time, when you're ship's company, I-level for the boat, you will be working on the ship, fixing/making random shit for the boat. Honestly. That and PMs (maintenance).
      Another interesting thing they mentioned was hazmat, the simplicity between FRCs and boats is mind blowing. To get Pro Lube (WD-40, general purpose oil, etc.) It could potentially take me an hour to get, whereas FRCs, you just go across the hall. Don't even ask about the lines to eat.
      When I leave the boat, I will be a decent sailor, and an AM with little experience, where if I was at an FRC, I would get to have that experience in what I went to school for/have the NEC for. Hydraulics is mine, but now I'm going to supply for the next year... so now my school means nothing. If you're in your sea rotation while at an FRC, you can deploy to a ship without doing all the ship stuff too! Not to say I hate the ship, but keep in mind when you're up for orders, best of luck!

      Brett Appleby it’s not bad, lots of panels to take off and out on. I work on jets unlike JTsuits. But I like it so far

      Kassidy Riley hows the civilian transfer, I heard it’s not that good because of the type of aircraft you work on while in. And what’s the deployments like? I’m hoping to get stationed in San Diego but at this point I’m more worried abt how well it transfers to civilian life

    • @bluetheyeti
      @bluetheyeti 4 роки тому

      Brett Appleby haven’t been on deployment yet, and civilian transfer is pretty good (from what I hear) you can continue to work on the same platform for different companies and make a lot more
