Originally, I was rated as an AO (as my Source Rating) and I learned how to count to 3. After June 2006, EOD became its own rating, so my rating changed to EOD. And now, I can count up to 10.
A suggestion when you interview people about their rate: ask them about the carry over to civilian life. A lot of people are probably looking to join for certain job skills, or to build a career after they get out. Just a thought
Became an AO in the early 60’s, went to A school in JAX Florida, was then stationed at NAS Whidbey Island attached to VAH-4, we flew the A-3D skywarrior bomber version, it’s main mission in those days was to deliver nukes, made AO2 in 2.75 yrs, then was in charge of a nuke loading team, was great job for a AO, then just when I was being discharged the nuke mission was moved to the submarine’s, a nuke team consisted of 4 AO’s on the bomb truck in the bomb bay, 1 AO in the cockpit, me with a officer looking over my shoulder between the Bombay and cockpit giving instructions to the AO in the cockpit, then there was a marine guard keeping people away from the a/c, we could load conventional stores again with bomb trucks, but nukes were our primary job!
You should do a video on HM. I’m a corpsman myself and I frequently get asked about my rate by many people looking to join who are interested in becoming an HM themselves.
Ranking up is a little more difficult for AO because not only do they make their own officers but when it comes to tests there are squadrons and carriers and they are different for each other. Example: my husband has only ever been on carriers for the last 16 years when on sea duty, so you really have to study
"Choose your rate (-ing), choose your fate." I made E-6 within about 7 years. I just had to make sure that I spelled my name & SSN # correctly on the Rating Exam.
Awesome video! I love the Navy so much and miss it so much, I'm going back in the Reserves. Hopefully as a Gunner's Mate again. Working at Boeing, I don't see going active as an option anytime soon, but if I did, I'd love to be an AO! Small arms to big bombs!
@@johnslum8371 No I got out. During bootcamp they mixed my medical paperwork up with someone else and decided to separate me until they could verify who I was. Ultimately ending in them saying I wouldn’t be able to rejoin my group and I’d have to come back in 6 months. It was very unprofessional and NOBODY cared. And they continued to lie to me about me going back to my ship once things were sorted. I tried to fight the separation legally and still didn’t help. I know it sounds crazy but hopefully your experience is not like mine! I have a sibling that experience went more smoothly and they worked as an ABF. Got stationed in San Diego and she says there were hard days but if there were no aircraft’s to fuel you’ll be doing menial tasks like repainting the ship, chipping old paint off, mopping, cleaning. Or eventually you’ll have to do watches or be security if chosen. I’m sure they could find work with the ABF rate but they said it was very labor intensive and not something they wanted to do.
@@elmocruz4607 I was in G-3 my entire enlistment. We built bombs and missiles down in the magazines and sent them up to the hangar bay on the elevators. We did a lot of other stuff but that was the primary duty. Maintaining all of the weapons inventory down in the mags is a lot of work.
Hey man whats up i was wondering if you remembered how much you scored on the asvab to become a MA i really wanna be one but my Low scores are holding me back and honesty im thinking about just talking to an air force recruiter just because their security forces doesn’t require a high score please give me your input thank you🙏🏾
AO's stand armed watches aboard the carrier. At least they did twenty years ago when I was on the Carl Vinson. We stood watches with shotguns or the Beretta. However, sometimes in more dangerous ports we would man the 50 cals or M-60's.
Thanks for having me on your channel 👊✊
anytime my dude! Still waiting on your version.....lol
Do AO get to work with guns?

I'm trying to find HM because I know it is a popular job. I swear no one wants to be interviewed lol where are you stationed?

How can a ao transfer to civilian world ?
Definitely a boat chuck AO. He needs to talk to a squadron AO
So what can you do with AO skill after you get out in the public workforce???
That’s what I’m saying because a few people say it can’t transfer to shit and it was the only job available so I picked it 🤣🤣

AO's do a lot more than just push bombs on skids from point A to point B. What division did this guy work in?
hmmm I don't know now to be honest...but I agree with you
G-3 most likely. That division usually handles the bombs and missiles, at least when I served.

I'm not too sure. I'm sure a lot of employers look fo previous military. They're usually always picked first
