Ruger Mk IV 2245 Lite with several upgrades makes Steel Challenge competition a breeze. It's reliable with reliable ammo like CCI-MiniMag, putting shots on targets when the timer is running. Being lighter, allows for competitive red dot optic making it easier to swing while staying on target. Maintenance is a no brainer with the one button takedown. It runs!
Sir? It would helpful if you could illuminate us as to the "upgrades?"
Stating that there are upgrades is not helpful.
So, you believe it's an incredible gun "with several upgrades". Sounds to me like the upgrades are what make it incredible.
I have the ruger mk4 target,I fired most of the rest of its competitors and I would not change it,over 20k rounds later its still perfect
You missed the boat by not showing the S&W model 41.
ya that's a sweet gun
100%
Smith 41 is the best Semi Double Duece Pistol in existance
However my Ruger mark III runs a close second to the 41!
And what about a Walther GSP, and a Hammerli 280...?
What about the Smith and Wesson model 41? A beautiful and very accurate firearm.
I have two and they are amazing but definitely pricey
@@josephescobedo2036 - Pricey?
Yeah, but you’re paying for the results occurring on the paper! That is, if you are able to get the potential from the Model 41, lol!
I’ve owned a few over the years, they spoil their owners!
I still have an old Ruger Mark 1 target model I grew up with. Most accurate pistol I have ever seen or known of. As the years went by , I started using it more than my Remington 22 rifle for small game hunting. With a steady hold , I could hit any critter in the head with the Ruger pistol as I could with a 22 rifle. If I could see it I could hit it. Cotton tail rabbits at around the 100 yard mark were in jeopardy. It sometimes took a ranging shot or two . Head shots on squirrels in a tall pine tree were not that difficult . On paper targets at 50 yds , I could keep all nine shots of a magazine inside a bulls eye the size of a Skole can lid with cheap bulk ammo with iron sights. Back then 22LR cost about $7.00 a brick. Never did put a scope on it. I like the challenge of using a pistol with iron sights.
I still have my Browning Nomad. Shoots straight and it eats everything. I’ll probably be buried with it.
I have a Woodsman and three Rugers. The Woodsman is hands down the best 22 pistol I own. Too bad Colt is out of that business. I wish it would comeback!
S&W model 41 & Performance Center model 41 top this list. However it’s $500-$800 more. You get what you pay for
I had an older Browning buckmark and it was very difficult to come apart and clean that's why I got rid of it.. I like the way the new one disassembles I'm going to buy another
Before I viewed your video I knew the Ruger would be the top, most reliable, best shooting pistol. I owned one when they were in the $30 dollar range in the late 50s.
I used to shoot all the time. Life got in the way of "fun time". I set a goal this year to go through my rifles and pistols and get them back into tip top shape and start going to the range again. I started with my Browning Buck Mark. I dreaded having to remove the Simmons scope with illuminated reticle because I knew I'd have to sight it back in- but you have to start somewhere. I needed 2 new parts- the recoil buffer was split and the retention block on the recoil spring assembly no longer looked similar to a home plate at a baseball game and refused to go back into the indent. eBay to the rescue!! New buffer was around $7 in total but the recoil spring assembly was a whopping $47. I know that the newer versions of the recoil spring assembly are built into a plastic block and dirt cheap to buy. My OLD model just has the spring on a rod with the retainer block and is discontinued, so finding one that is brand new was worth the price! Cleaned, lubed, and reassembled- I took it shooting. I was shocked that I didn't need to touch the scope at all. I could consistently hit a 1 1/2 inch target from 20 yards all day long. My Buck Mark is a damn good pistol!!
High Standard was the best available for decades and still available on the used market.
I have the H-D Military model. Shoots great for being 70 years old.
I've fired all of the non polymer pistols in this video. I collect High Standards, I wouldn't trade one of my lowest grade HS for all of those. I am only talking about Hampden produced . I have never shot nor do I own any of the more recent Houston made guns.
I've been a fan of the Ruger Mark series pistols for over 40 years. I have a Ruger Standard 50th anniversary pistol, a Mark II Government Target (which I bought brand new in the 1980s) and a Davidsons NRA Edition Mark III 22/45/Lite which is tricked out with Tandemcross 'goodies' and a red dot reflex sight. My old Mark II Govt. Target is scary accurate...off the sandbags it's right there with my S&W Model 17 'Full Target' revolver. That being said, I would probably go for any of the pistols on this video....I love my .22s!👍👍
I wish I still had mine Govt. I traded it for a Glock Model 22 in .40cal. One of the dumbest things I've ever done.😢
My BIG FOUR Model 41, buckmark,
mark II,
high standard
These are the standard for the average Perficient shooter
Unparalleled in accuracy and reliability, the Ruger Mark IV sets the gold standard for .22lr pistols - have you experienced its unrivalled precision yet?
Yes I have one with the 4 inch bull barrel deadly accurate
@@jeffhrycuna3349know 90th
My experience with the several Ruger Mark (I, II, III) pistols has been hit or miss, depending on the gun. Maybe it took them 4 tries to get it right consistently. Nothing beats the Woodsman in semi-auto .22. Nothing beats a single action revolver for accuracy in .22. So, nah, I'll pass on the Ruger and pick up a Heritage for half the price. Besides that, who can spend $6 a box on .22s that will be gone in 2 minutes in a semi-auto. Not me. Even if I could, I wouldn't.
I have one !
I love it !
I put a Volquartsen trigger kit in it and a red dot on it !
I can bullseye with it !
Wonderful and beautiful pistol.
Is there any reason you didn’t include the price of the Ruger? You listed the price of the other guns. Too spendy to justify?
I bought my wife the Browning Buckmark Camper model. As long as it's clean, it runs like a dream. I love shooting it. Then I went n bought myself a 1950 Mossberg 152k
Good video. I had a Buckmark. Sorry I had to sell it. Also had the Walther p22. Extremely comfortable to shoot but also extremely finicky with ammo. Now I have the mark 4. Awesome gun. So much easier to break down. The old rugers required 3 hands to take apart.
two hands to take apart, three and a half hands to reassemble
I stand corrected. Lol.
Very cool that in the middle of discussing the Browning Buck Mark (~11:50), a picture of the Ruger Mk IV 22/45 Lite is shown!
Bought my first Ruger 22 in about 1974, and I still have it. It's probably about time to upgrade to the Mk IV. The Buckmark is whispering my name though.....tough choice !
The good news is this is still the USA and you can have both. I do. We can read more than one book. We can own more than one .22
Our Kimber performance center outshoots my favorite Buckmarks and Rugers @15 yrds. Hard to beat those but cleaning the Buckmarks and Rugers, other than the excellent Mark IV series, made me sell/give away them. The Ruger 22/45 is so much easier to carry than my Stainless Ruger target model but like All Rugers could use a trigger job. Thanks for the fun vid, Semper Fi🇺🇸 //Browning 1911 feels like a toy and Ruger’s sr22 is far better than Walthers and has aftermarket 14 rd mags. 6:52
The most overlooked .22 lr pistol, the keltech p17. It's a 16 + 1 Pistol that's the most affortable and accurate and probably has one of the best trigger pulls of all the guns that you featured....!!!
Kel-Tec is two steps ahead of Tarus
I still got my Ruger mark 2 pistol from 1980, but it hasn't missed a beat nice heavy long target barrel.
Review is all over the place, without any clear purpose. Guns are in all categories, stock to fully customized, current production to out of production for decades. Define the "Best" in the title.
Local shop had a mk3 with sculpted grips and a ghost sight. That was a nicely done piece
I like my Hi-Standard 22 semi-automatic. It's no longer made. Also the old S&W model 41 is good. I think they should be cheaper than the Woodsman on the second hand market.
High Standard are still manufactured by two different outfits - one in Texas and one in Montana. The S&W model 41 is also still in production. It's also interesting to note that not a single .22 revolver was mentioned.
@@todglenn2707 both are on the top tier list if you can afford them. possible, that videomaker dont.
Bought a S&W Victory last summer. Going to put on a red dot soon. Very nice feeling and even better accuracy!
I use a 22 pistol for carrier and backup, they are underrated for the use of personal protection.
I fully agree, Ruger LCR with Federal punch is my back up.
S&W Model 41, that omission spoke volumes to your lack of knowledge.
Not to speak of the High Standard competition models.
How did you miss the S&W model 41?. In any event, For indoor range shooting 22 lr is cheap and fun; and the larger, heavier target guns themselves are excellent; easy to shoot, low recoil, and accurate. If your shooting is limited to a 25 yard indoor range, like I am, 22 LR is great fun.
Anything match the Colt Woodsman Match Target Bull Barrel?
What about the S&W 41 with adjustable triger . Mine is set at 1 lo .5 OZ. I have shot thousands of rounds in competition
Own an 89 model Browning BuckMark Target 5.5. Super accurate gun especially at steel challenge.
I have been lugging around a older (early 50s,standard maybe.?.)ruger .to just have a 22 with me in the woods)have a holster, but heavy gun & it’s floppy & gets in the way. Carry it in the holster in a small sling bag. Picked up a LCP II 22 while out looking for a 22 revolver. It shoots reliably & more accurate than I’d expect. Feather weight pocket gun. I got a good one luckily.
I've shot some of those listed here, but my favorite is still the Keltec CP33. I almost traded for a fully modded out Ruger Mark IV recently, but decided to wait until I can just buy the basic Mark IV with cash and do my own mods for it.
I've shot a lot of 22's, the Keltec CP33 is the most accurate 22 I have ever shot. Most people have never tried the CP33 because they don't like the way it looks. If you shoot one, you will want one - Crazy Accurate!
@@Ron-rs3lx absolutely! I just let a friend shoot mine today for the first time, and he fell in love with it! We were going to do a video but the range is private and does not allow public video or advertisement.
At the 11:53 Mark, you are talking about the Browning Buck Mark and you show a Ruger Mark IV Lite. Just thought y'all should know.
Who makes the grip featured on the SW22 that is featured on the title slide?
Ah yes, the 41 Smith, damn
Just picked up a Mark IV Hunter. Love it!
Really like the color case hardening.
I have a stainless Ruger mark 2 that has had a lot of rounds through it. It still shoots like new.
Got a MIII the way it came out of the box. Must be at least 30 years ago. Aint no better. Only more expensive.
I have had both the ruger mk4 and the buckmark hunter I keep the buckmark and still have it today with 1000s of rds not once it have jam up. I traded the mk4 off because the gun was new right out of the box and after about 100 rounds it started to jam and misfire . And I only use CCI ammunition in 22lr. I don't buy any other 22lr brand.
i own over 15 pistols and rifles , revolvers .lot off fun low cost off amo.vitory sw , buck mark , bull berrol , iv ruger.taurus revolber , 2 10/2 rugers wichester pump action old rugers .to mention a few
The BROWNING IS SUPERIOR TO RUGER, I HAVE OWNED 5 OF EACH OVER THE YEARS.
Yes. People don't know because they don't bother to branch out and buy them all
Bullshit
I was looking at Mk-IV, but Buckmark is talking to me now. Probably go with it in stainless.
My Mark-2 from the 80's always reliable.
Our Mark IV does okay, it has been reliable...best ever, I wouldn't go that far...heck, I actually like shooting our Heritage more...
I know, you don't want to hear this; but here it is any way. The Kel-Tec P17 outshoot the Tarus XT 22 hands down. The Kel-=Tec is right on out of the box. It also comes with three magazines, so you have forty-eight rounds to start with. The magazines are under twenty dollars, some of those only come with one and extra magazines are pricey. All good guns.
The colt ,the Browning, going awayn!!!
I have a SW Victory 22 and a torque wrench is not required to install the pic rail. My particular firearm is more accurate than any Ruger I have owned in the past. This video is more opinion than any facts that I can see or hear.
If there is a clear winner than it wasn't a "Tough call".
I have the Ruger mark 4 bull barrel excellent pistol in stock about thirty years old ❤
Well you have left out my favorite, the S&W model 41,early model:
nice
that's a good list. but i prefer my LCPII for edc. these other pistols are for plinking and hunting small game.
There is a bunch of these best .22 pistol video's out now but so far I have yet to see one with any revolvers in them. I know Semi are much more popular today but you would think at least one would be a revolver since you have so many great options out there.
Totally agree. Wheel guns have taken the back seat to the semi auto but they have attributes that the "other " group does not.
@@leeczaplinski9781 Revolvers' higher cost and lower capacity put them at a lower place in shooter's acquisition list. My own feeling.
I have several of the High Standard 22 and 22 magnums in nine shot revolvers. They shoot great ,the Double Longhorns or all double action. Pick up two of them and you have eighteen shoots. Fun at the least cost factor.
How about s/w
Model 41 22 cal
Still like my old Beretta Neo 22 LR..
No Ruger SR 22 but you have a Walther and no revolvers! Much love to the Ruger 2245 and the S&W Victory
Just love my Buckmark. Breakdown sucks but what a sweet firearm.
What, no S&W Model 41?
maybe because it is so expensive
Mark 4 hunter😊😊😊
Will be the next gun purchased,Ruger Mark IV.
Browning Buck Mark. Bought used in 2004. Great little gun.
I was so pleased with the number one as I bought this gun before I ever seen this video lol
I’m sorry, but, Ruger gave me a bad mindset with the first 22/45 about 15 years ago. The cleaning instructions designed by engineers I should never have tried. So, I gave it up for thr Ruger 101 in 22 lr, my favorite round of ammo. I bought a S&W 22 lr when it hit the market, and that was my favorite 22lr semi pistol for years, now I’ve discovered the Walther p22 that I love also. As for the Ruger mk4, to each their own choosing, shoot on!
Smith & Wesson vs Mark IV. My balance is Smith normally fires any round, the Ruger is choosy. Mark IV is also easier to disassemble
Opposite here Always has problems so never shoot it anymore . Been back to s&w too Still has issues
Colt Woodsman: "Whatta ya say? Your .22 against my .45; winner take all?"
~ Brock Kandy - El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie
A good overview, but you left out the venerable Hi-Standard target pistols.
I have a hs sharpshooter .....I like it
THAT IS YOUR OPINION, BUT MANY WEAPONS EXPERTS THINK THAT THE BEST .22 LR CALIBER PISTOL MANUFACTURED TODAY IS THE "CZ 75 KADET .22LR" FROM THE CZECH REPUBLIC. MANY GUN USERS AND LOVERS AROUND THE WORLD WOULD LIKE TO INCLUDE THE "CZ 75 KADET" IN GUN REVIEWS.
Volquartsen Black Mamba -X
What happened to the S & W Model 41. They still make them and they shure won gads of silhouette shoots !
I had a Walther P22 and I would never put it on any best of list, sorry but not up to par. I have a Volquartsen now and I have owned S&W 41's, a slew of High Standards, a Beretta 89, Rugers and others. The Volquartsen is hard to beat.
Yeah the good Walthers he left off the list. The SSP should have been the Walther entry.
What happened to the grandma of all .22 pistols the venerable Hammerli 208?……
Left out all the actual "best" pistols. No Pardini, Walther GSP, TOZ, or any free pistols.
The highstandard
I own a Ruger MKIV. It performs wonderfully and is incredibly accurate ... AFTER ... I upgraded it's HORRIBLE out of the box trigger. You can't call it the best .22 because there are hundreds of upgrades available for it. Those upgrades exist because of the shortcomings the stock pistol has.
What about a Black Mamba??
Note to Editor: at the 11:53 mark, you are showing a Ruger rather than a Browning.
Walther P22 sux ballz! Nothing but trouble with mine
valid. seems fragile and poorly made
Never had a problem with mine and during competitions when it got cold the only gun that had minor issues was the P22 and the new Walther 22. Every other gun make there had stoppages that had to make them stop that round. Worst the Walther had was failure to go into battery and that was because the ammo was cold.
@billalumni7760 what ammo did you shoot? I had to shoot really hot loads like Stingers to get it to halfway cycle right. But I would still get stovepipes and failure to cycles. If I shoot standard loads through it, it will consistently have failures to cycle
I have the Browning Buck Master
That gun does look beautiful. But the Ruger mark four is still the best.
Don’t know much about some of them, but, I do not have any firearms with that little extra piece of metal in the trigger. Wont buy one with that dohmaflotchey in the trigger, wont own or shoot one with it either. But, I love me some 22 lr or 22 magnum pistols or revolvers.
S&W .22 Victory……………enough said.
No Ruger SR22?
😂the best of all you forgot to add the Smith&wesson m&fullsize 22 best of the best of the rest 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Sorry too many polymer guns. S&W 41, Hi-Standard are missing?? Love the woodsman and I own 2 Rugers, Mark I and Mark III Huntsman. 10,000's++++ rounds through them. I don't own a Buckmark but have shot a few at the range with friends who own them. They are ok, but not a #2 pistol.
Ruger22/45 Bullbarrel, Mark II target model, Browning Buckmark, Ruger Charger, & Beretta Bobcat. All but the last are fair target pistols. But I prefer a target model .45 acp...
Which one was your clear winner?
My first gun was a Ruger MK1. Excellent shooter, but a beast to clean.
If i need a hex wrench to do a field strip then I am out.
Top 8? Where is the Pardini? Walther GSP? TOZ 35? IH?
This list seems lacking.
To not include the Smith and Wesson model 41 indicates that this report is based on YOUR opinion and not the actual best of the best.
Ruger Mark IV
I just need a steel challenge gun.
00:32 | "filtering through the endless models of 22 pistols" and yet you show centerfire ammunition. What's up with that?
Where is the smith&wesson mod 41 ! You just miss the top one ! It's the best ever !
Have a TX 22 comp model, seldom will empty a mag without 1, 2, or 3 stovepipes. Sent back on warranty, came back doing the exact same thing, spent hours trying sort it out, via internet hacks, without success. Would try a new one if Taurus would agree. Other wise no more Taurus, ever. Buyer beware..
Ruger mrk 4
These people who consider the Colt Woodsman of "the best 22 target pistol of all time" probably have never heard of Sako, Feinwerkbau, Hammerli, Unique and others.....
Sorry to see that you could not include anything from Canik, one of the best in the world...
Ruger SR22
Ummm smith 41?
A contradiction. If there IS a clear winner, how can it be a "tough call"? 😆
