    Make sure you drop your oil pump in the dirt so it has the proper grit preload.

    I loved this unboxing video! They not only sent you the oil filter and the transmission kit, but they sent you two deluxe paper creepers to keep your clothes clean, You wadded them up on camera and tossed them away just to get a laugh on camera, but we all know that those are creepers! And you got TWO!! Those guys really must be Taryl Fans!

    Had to do this same repair a couple of years ago on my Gravely, just replaced the o rings. Didn't mark the cover, didn't know I needed to, and installed one backwards, they will go on either way. When one pump wouldn't work I had to do a lot of research to figure out why. Turned the cover around, works fine. Thanks for posting this, wish I had seen it 2 years ago.

    Wish I had known about that upgrade. Had a Husqvarna garden tractor in a few months back that had transmission problems. The owner had taken it to a shop and was told it can't be fixed because the transmission is a sealed pressurized unit. Not so. It had been leaking for do long it was very low on oil and had never been serviced. The charge pump cover bolts were loose. I pulled it off, put in a new o-ring and torqued the bolts. Drained the nasty remaining oil. Put in new oil and filter. Worked like a charm. Let it sit for two days. Didn't leak. Did a full service. The owner said it ran better than new. I only wish it had the external reservoir. What a pain to put oil in!.

      you have to watch out for scamming mecanics i had a friend had a briggs engine blowing white smoke he brought some place they told him the engine was finished then he called me i took one look at it he fired it up no smoke then boom smoked like hell i told him head gasket blown took head off showed him right there and then even told him where it was leaking when it was off he saw i was right got a new head gasket torked it down to spec and bob is your uncle ran like a top no smoke the guy just want to sell him a new machine or an other engine ,crooks have to watch it like car mecanics just as bad if you dont know they know it and will screw you over big time i am honest and they like that ,i just did a job on a snowblower one of the holes on the head was broken clean off nothing to bolt to only had one hole so i tried to fix it useing jb weld built the side of the head back up once hard drilled a hole in it and drilled out the other hole in the head then put 2 new insurts to screw into with new screws put jb weld in the holes and on the in surts place them in the holes then put a light cover over the head where the carb would screw into sanded all straight, made a gasket screwed it into the insurts with blue lock tight put it all back together ,adjusted the ohv rockers and fired it up ,ran super, happy about that if i did not try this it could have cost $30-150 just for a head i knew jb weld can handle quite a bite of head so not to worried about it falling apart,if it fails well then going to need a head because that one will be scrap ,but if you dont try you dont know,so far so good,sorry some may not agree, but i like to save it if i can, it works now and thats the maine thing,

      Did you not take out the air cover at the top side? Looks line an Allen bolt. Once you pull those the oil goes in a little quicker. You can even force the oil down with a small pump to fill much quicker.

    The reason for the off set is this determines the rotation of the charge pump. If you install it back wards there won’t be any charge pressure to stroke the pump. If you look at the input belt you would see the two pumps are turning the same direction. Some models may have one pump spinning one way and the 2nd pump turning opposite. That’s the purpose of the directional mark. The charge pump is there to continuously fill the loop with oil as there is designed leakage that is used to cool the system.

      Same situation on the Walker mowers too. Also, don’t trust the filter cover. My Walker has the ZT 2800 stamped on the hydro. But, the cover says ZT 3100. It came that way from the factory. The same pumps were upgraded because of a leak by a warranty repair. That is how I learned about the generic cover. There’s your snack.

    Taryl, there's a small vent plug on the flat side of the unit about half way at the top. You take that vent plug out and watch the plug hole until you see oil start running out of the vents and you have them blead. If you put that charge pump cover on 180 out the unit will not work because of the direction of rotation will be wrong. Those O-rings leak quite often on some models. I have completely dissembled those units and resealed them with very good results. We ran 20w50 Synthetic motor oil in them. Thanks for the videos. Lee

    A few years ago my charge pump on my left zt-3100 was leaking. I put in a new o-ring and it still leaked. I noticed there was a .012 gap between the cover and the main housing so I filed .008 off both sides of the cover mounting bosses (carefully keeping it square with the rotor housing). No more leaking!. Also, the zt-3100 has a threaded vent plug to let the air out and the drive will fill quickly if you doing a complete oil change...Al Scott. Good video Taryl!

I have to wonder why as the new housing with the pump impeller is a flat surface .. just thought you might get more tension on the O ring .. but hey they had reasons .. maybe the new rubber gasket was thicker ... Have been watching your videos for years now . First time commenting now .. enjoy watching ..thank you . TC Bridgette

    You could make a rubber adapter to stick on the reservoir tank to pull a vacuum on the system. Then after an hour come back, & release the vacuum. I do it on hydraulic brakes a lot. Saves me a lot of time.

      Works also on automotive power steering to purge the champagne bubbles when you have a slipper pump.
      The reservoir entrance hole is about the same diameter.
      Apply a vacuum and pull the air up to vent it.
      You could get a rubber stopper that big at hardware store when I needed one.

    The geroter has a witness mark and usually they match for dimensional reasons if you take the old geroter and take your feeler gauge and measure .003 to .005 from lobe tip to tip should be about the gap you should have but usually the gap is pretty close already but yes that is for a dimensional check purposes .

    I still have one in the driveway. The left hydro was leaking real bad. When I had gone to remove the bolts, I noticed that the bolts were very loose. I purchased the new filters and am going to see if the left one will seal instead of replacing the charge pump cover. The one I am working on is the ZT 2800 on a 2006 model. This one shouldn't have the updated kit being that old. I believe that it started on 2011.

    I think the “mark” they are talking about may need to be stamped ( like with a hammer and punch) into the trans housing. This may be to indicate to future mechanics that the “update” has been completed. The reason I think this, is because I have a 1974 Honda cb360 and when a certain upgrade was done on the engine( such as the upgraded cam chain tensioners) that the mechanic was supposed to punch a small dot next to the engine serial number pad to indicate that the update has been done. Just a thought.

    Okay, I've the 3100 Hydro gear as well and Bad boy service manual says the oil filler removed is the oil drain with machine level. I could not find/get the 10-50 "full synthetic" oil locally (Pretty weak support from local dealer). Finally had to settled for 15W-40 regular Dino oil from local Farm & Western Wear Store. I've not experienced the "leak" yet. I've the remote reservoirs and glad to have them for filling! Glad to see some Hydro gear Service Videos.

    You caught on that the marks on the pumps indicate which way the georotor is offset. Both transmissions will offset the same way because the input shafts turn the same direction.
    I usually remove the vent plugs in order to get the air in the case out and get the oil back in as quickly as possible. The vent plug is located at the top of the side cover or in the top of the main case, depending on which port is not used for the line to the expansion tank.

    I always go on top of the unit and unscrew the vent- oil drains down in 3-5 min as you fill- jus have to plug it quickly cause she fills kinda quick. Once full then start and they wake up and work everytime for me.

    Did you see the cold war motors video from yesterday and the starter motor being used as a hydraulic pump for the power windows on the Olds 98? Brake fluid as the hydraulic fluid?

    • @blowupbob1
      @blowupbob1 4 місяці тому

      Yeah, they got the motor running, I want to see if the pump still works. Bet it does. They aren't going to use brake fluid, they said it doesn't like water. Transmission fluid would work.

    • @tarstarkusz
      @tarstarkusz 4 місяці тому

      @@blowupbob1 I thought I heard Scott say it originally ran on brake fluid. I assume probably any reasonably close fluid will work.

    If you watch the manufacturer video, they tell you to pull the vent plug. Top off the drives until oil comes out of them put the vent plugs back in. Then flipped the levers to the bypass and then hold your bars forward for a minute and then backwards for a minute and do that six times and then put the bypass off and it should be ok if you need to do that procedure again

    12:18 terrell I would’ve definitely dropped the rotor and stator in some oil or at least push some clean oil onto it and on the surface before assembling it, so no thumbs up for you this time my friend, you should know better than that! It really will not see any oil until it is been spinning in but that time we already have where taking place due to it being dry because even though, when you fill it, it’s not going to fill the cavity of the rotor until after it gets spinning!

    13:33 the square end of the new cover is facing to the outside of the tractor on the driver side, but when you put the next one on that is the passengers side of a car, the new covers square end is also facing to the driverside of the mower, which i find odd since the pump casing appears to be polar opposite, would not that square end also have to be facing outside of the tractor on the passenger side as well? 19:35 both square ends are facing the same direction drivers side left.

    Those are also notorious for leaking around brake shafts. Hydro gear has a kit for that to.

    The old pump caps will warp , and cause the leak. That’s why the company changed to steel caps. Lay a straight edge on the old cap, (cover) . Ull see daylight in the center of cap, causing the leak.

    there is a vent plug on the side to get all the air out of it. the way you did it is a good way to tear up the hydro unit. but each to his own.
