And it just works, 2 minutes of work and it launches just fine. Whereas trying to use Windows troubleshooter took 30 minutes with nothing at all helping. Thank You very very much.

@@anthonymoney810 Just so you know, the same fix worked for BFME 2 and the Rise of the Witch King. Literally the exact same options file is missing on windows 7 installations. I just copied it to the folders of the other games and they launched too.

Because I noticed that the lord of the rings folder doesn't show up in the roaming folder until you launch the game. And if there no options.ini batch file then in theroy it could work. But the only issue I see since it's a newer game then 1 it might have more option detail in the file so you might need to find online if they have added anything else to the options.ini file.

Then a few years later I build a custom computer. That's when I came across this issue were the game wasn't working on window 7 OS and higher. so I took the time and went thru the files to find out that the options.ini batch file never install. So that's why the game would get error codes and never work. So I made a video and posted it on youtube just incase if a few people are still trying to play this game today and are having issues getting this game to work, and thats stopping them from enjoying this awsome game. Here what I found to fix the issue. After a year into the video being posted I was getting spam like crazy with loads of people posting saying thanks, now I can play this game again after all these years. I was really shock on how alot of people posted on my youtube video. And I was glad I was able to help everyone out and enjoy this awsome game. But I never really owed the 2nd one. so never really took the time to fix the 2nd lord of the rings game. :D

Np :D. That zoom issue can only be fix with a patch update. Im Still working on seeing how the file works. so I can maybe change it with just modding the file without the patch update.

Very well done. Windows 10 same fix, to create the ini file in the appdata/roaming folder, only on Windows 10 the folder is located in the Windows directory, not in the users directory. Just put %appdata% into the address bar in Windows Explorer, as he says in the video, and it will take you there.

I try installing this game on windows 11 as of few days ago the game finally install the option file without doing this part. but for how long that stays idk lol. I do need to make a refresh video but with windows 11. For people with the newer OS since they keep changing the damn windows layout lol 😂. Worked for me, thank you so much. 5 comments for anyone still having issues: (1) when you install from disk or iso, right-click on setup.exe and pick "run as administrator" (2) if you are creating the options file by copy/pasting the config above, make sure you named the file as options.ini, NOT options.txt. The default extension when you create a new text document is .txt, in the video file extensions are hidden and your file extensions may be hidden too (you can set file extensions as unhidden in the same place the video explains to show hidden files and folders). If you do have file extensions hidden, then make sure the file is not named as options.ini.txt (which will display as options.ini if you have file extensions hidden, as only the .txt will be hidden). If it is named as options.txt or options.ini.txt IT WONT WORK, it must be named options.ini, so turn on show file extensions and check the name is options.ini. Where did you get that Exception box from? I cannot find it. The strange thing is, I have two computers, both are Windows 7, but one is an i5 OS and the other is an i7, much faster than the i5. The thing is (again), Battle for Middle Earth starts right away without problems and I play it right to the finish of the game. Whereas, the i7 accepts the installation of the game without problems right to the installation of the last disc (Disc 4). So, when I want to play the game on the i7 after the installation, it doesn't respond when I check what it is doing by pressing Ctrl + Alt + Delete together. I note this when I see the hourglass remaining on. So, I have to start again, by clicking on the LOTR-BFME screen launching icon and... it's the same thing. Now, if the i5 plays well, why the i7 doesn't play?
Been off computer since 2009. I got a 3060 and finally built my first pc build. Thank God I still have my disk for this game. Can’t wait to play it again. Even though I know Gandalf is an XP hog!
