@@yammienoob It's a free for all. Lines on the road and colours on the signal are merely suggestions, not rules, for most people. If You can safely ride a motorcycle here, you can ride one anywhere.
When filtering it pays to be very aware of a couple of things. In actual traffic jams car drivers are more likely to open their door, (to get an idea of what's happening ahead). It's quite difficult to prepare for someone suddenly opening the door, but they will often give a sign - look for seat belt being removed. They may already look quite animated in their car. When filtering in general, look at the front wheel of vehicles, and gaps appearing - it's an early sign of someone making a maneuver - if wheels turn into your path it's likely that someone might be about to change lanes. Also, try to look at mirrors - people do usually look before maneuvering, although it DOESN'T mean that they've seen you. Above all - take your time, ride respectfully, be very aware and ride defensively. If it looks in any way risky, relax - an opportunity will probably arise soon enough. Lastly, this might sound stupid but you should be very aware of the dimensions of your motorbike - don't squeeze your way through. ✌️

Now that he has had the opportunity to experience living in the Lone Star paradise, he whines a lot less about living in the "Golden State." California has a strong economy, good paying jobs, lots of public land that's open to motorcycles, better than average weather, no hurricanes or tornados, decent fishing and miles of stunning shoreline and sandy beaches. There are many reasons why it is so much cheaper to live elsewhere. You're probably right though Rafael, you wouldn't like it here. 😛

My understanding is there's a difference between filtering and splitting. Filtering here in Australia is where the traffic is stationary you can travel at up to 30km/h between traffic (2 lanes going the same direction) to get to the front of the queue. Splitting appears to be whilst traffic is moving (possibly slowly) which is not legal in Australia. Doesn't mean it doesn't happen, but you could be booked for it.

From what I see quite a few states are changing their stance on this issue and passing legislation legalizing it. Some are regulating speeds and or circumstances. That might be hard to mitigate for officers or us as riders
I don't think it will be so bad for the cops. It isn't about going after the guy who is flowing through without incident, it's about having a clear standard to charge the squidmissiles for being triple dumb when they cause problems.

UK rider here and filtering just makes sense, don't get me wrong I don't always do it but if the road & conditions allow then it makes no sense to sit behind a Chelsea tractor spewing out diesel fumes. I remember my riding instructor was constantly in my ear saying make good progress and actually taught me to filter on his lessons. During my test I had the opportunity to filter on a couple of occasions but didn't want to make a mistake however when the test instructor told me I had passed and after I stopped jumping around with excitement he said....So why didn't you filter at those two spots?......That was three years ago, filtering is just a part of my life now like walking I suppose. Cheers, top channel btw. :-)
I split in Houston. You gotta do it here. Frapping nightmare trying to get around otherwise. And people are chill about it usually. I only split when it’s at a standstill. Those derps splitting at 80 out in Cali are just begging to get smoked.
In germany it's allowed as long as it's summer and you are stuck on the Autobahn. But the police doesn't if you are in urban traffic as long as you are chill and drive slowly
Here in São Paulo, Brazil, we basically only drive doing that because of the heavy traffic. But here we call it something like "hall" or "corridor" (Corredor, in portuguese), the space between two walls
In Finland its legal when the traffic is not moving and you don't cross the middle line. If the cars are moving you can get fined and lose your driving licences for endangering of traffic safety.
I just got back from Italy and rented a bike while I was there. While they basically have no rules on the road people are just better drivers there. Almost nobody was distracted while driving. We spent two weeks there and didn't see a single car accident. I can't drive down 635 in Dallas without seeing at least one major freeway accident.
This is the reason Belgium will allow you to deduct a motorcycle from your taxes if you use it for commuting to work. Because of the results of multiple research firms all saying 5% more motorcycles instead of cars would reduce traffic by 40ish%. That being said, this is the most dangerous period for lanesplitting. Winter is just over and drivers havent seen many motorcycles for a while now.
I save 20 mins/ day commuting here in the UK. Saved even more in central London. Feels great too, followed a cop splitting outside of the houses of parliament, even split on the roads around Buckingham palace lol Can't believe it's illegal in most US states, thought it was just a few they you couldn't!
I'm not sure europe as a whole is the biker's paradise you think it is. You've ridden the chaos that is London. If you're out in the sticks (hi there) then a substantial number of drivers aren't used to riders filtering. Outside of cities in the north that have many motorcycle commuters i get actively blocked a lot. I've even had a qualified driving instructor try to door me and tell me filtering is illegal. Her franchising chain did not appreciate the helmet cam footage and were most apologetic.

Yes, please make it legal in Texas! I am just moving there from California. That’s one thing that I’m not looking forward to 😒. I will vote for you, Yammie!
Yes it is legal now in Utah, but nothing like it is in cali. In fact its a joke as the cars must be stopped. So really this will only be useful at a stop light to skip to the front in traffic. Its so fun to ride on the freeway in cali compared to all the other states.
In texas. If you arnt going 85 down the shoulder or darting through traffic you're usually good. Plenty of times traffic has been at a dead stop and I'll just hit the shoulder and cruise at 25 ish past cops. Not one cared. Alot of random people get salty tho
I spent a summer in San Diego and it changed my life lol. I live in Indiana and I don't dare split lanes here except cheating to the midline while stopped at a red so I have somewhere to go.... Not bc I'm afraid of a ticket but bc I swear someone would purposely knock me over. Not the most motorcycle friendly in my area. When I talk to people about this it's frustrating bc everyone just pictures the crazy jokers who do it at 90mph. Even in california, the motorcycle manual did not recommend splitting over 35mph or with a speed difference of more than 10mph... You can definitely still get a ticket for reckless driving haha.
i like that last do's and don'ts about the paint not sure about the rest of the world but here in Canada they now changed the laws for environment on paint uses we can now only use water based paints (used to be oil based) in fact they dont even sell oil based anymore here... anyway the point of this is oil based paint is well oil based and thats not fun under my 2 wheels when scraping knee

Ok rear end accidents down, what about bike accidents overall in CA per rider since they started. I know here, those cagers would intentionally cut you off if they say that coming. Its like a freaking hobby here.
Maaaan spliting is awesome! im originally from São Paulo / Brazil and having practice with that can make you very technical and efficient ! Great topic yam tube screaming pubes !!! 😂 best channel ever !
Splitting makes such a difference in my commute. Half the car drivers seem to be totally cool with it and will even move a bit for you while the other half just hates you for it and will block you or talk bad about it. Haha
For anyone in the coments that ride i highly recomend riding the kancamagus highway in New Hampshire just dont do it on a holiday to much trafic but any other time its great and the view is unmached
Since I live on California I can split all I want to...BUT I'm kinda of a wuss because I don't take many risks splitting. When I do split, it's always just a little faster then traffic around me...
The unspoken rule for splitting in CA so I've been told is traffic should be going less than 40 and you shouldn't go more than 10mph faster than the flow of traffic. Buuuut since this isn't written down anywhere it's really anything goes...
Dear Yammie Noob, i'm all for lanesplitting but holy shit its just as dangerous as sitting in traffic, i'd just say do it at your own discretion. my bike got written off literally last week because i got hit by a turning car in traffic while i was splitting, he wasn't indicating or using his mirrors, and unfortunately thats just the cager way. With this in mind its way safer to sit in traffic where you're right in front of them in plain view or right in their rear mirror, which is more likely to get checked. i guess my point is that eating a car door hurts like hell and wouldn't say its worth splitting where thats a risk.
Papa yam should be running for president in all of the 7 continents of the world. Motorcycle is the answer for traffic and global warming. #yamforpresident #presidentforallcontinents #2024 #busasforlife #lanesplitting
Have you ridden in Britain? Pretty sure we have been filtering (as we call it) legally the longest, since dunno, 1870 or something with bicycles and horse carts. We have few rules but one of them (Davis vs Shrogin 2006) is that car drivers /are/ supposed to move over and get out of the way, although few of them know this. Likewise they are responsible for that car door, but a biker has to allow for idiots. And the are places you're not allowed to filter (various road markings). Recommended speed differential 20mph through slow moving or stationary traffic, not flashing between vehicles already doing 70-80mph on a motorway, unless you want to become an accident statistic. In England filtering is legal because it has never been made illegal, in the USA you have to repeal various laws. Convincing each state that the rest of the world is right and they are wrong is going to be as much fun as getting you to go metric or use Celsius like everyone else.
Here in Rome you can't live without lane splitting because of traffic and traffic restrictions around the historic center of the city. I always wondered why no one in America did it, I mean, it kinda defeats the whole purpose of a motorcycle! Great video tho, keep it up papa
There’s no rule against it here in DC. But American drivers get hostile when they see you lanesplitting. It angers them that you don’t have to sit in traffic while they do
Agreed. My '18 R1 has reached 240°F here in Texas. Liquid cooled don't mean shit. Never reaches 220°F after flash. Splitting lanes best thing on my trip to California although they know I was coming. 1st or 2nd gear at or around 5K rpm. Pretty hard to miss. I'd clutch in if their window was down though.

Hey off topic here buttttt if you’re looking for a monster food bike for cheap AF the 2004-2009 SV800 is AMAZING talk about ability to corner and the acceleration is by far better than any other bike I’ve rode hands down....look into it baby yam yam 🍠
Yes, please make it legal in Texas! I am just moving there from California. That’s one thing that I’m not looking forward to 😒. I will vote for you, Yammie!
I cant be the only person to notice 1:42...
Omg I see it now. Lol!!!!
What did I miss?
@@SpaniardNL Look at his search bar!!
That’s racist
@@vicslav4030 How is that racist???
Legal in Victoria Australia since 2017 I think it was. I always did it anyway but its now legal, love it.
4:50 when he actually begins about lane splitting
Yes it is legal now in Utah, but nothing like it is in cali. In fact its a joke as the cars must be stopped. So really this will only be useful at a stop light to skip to the front in traffic. Its so fun to ride on the freeway in cali compared to all the other states.
I've lanesplit over a 100,000 km so far. My entire commute is just one large lanesplit
It's a good feeling.
"Drivers are well versed in motorcycle safety and awareness" BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Good one
I’m a new subscriber and I really enjoy watching your content. EDUCATIONAL and ENTERTAINING. Keep it up! 👍🏼
Guy said below Utah with 15 mph or less. That would be fine, but the speeds some of the cali riders go splitting lanes is ridiculous and dangerous.
Sad face for illegal lane splitting in Louisiana
In texas. If you arnt going 85 down the shoulder or darting through traffic you're usually good. Plenty of times traffic has been at a dead stop and I'll just hit the shoulder and cruise at 25 ish past cops. Not one cared. Alot of random people get salty tho
“Don’t vote for me. I have no qualifications. Think of the children” 💯🤣 subbed
I’m from Victoria Texas. Thanks for repping Texas.
MERCH IDEA= Bike keychain. I’m not a new rider but I love your channel, and finding a keychain that doesn’t rattle around (making noise and scratching stuff) is harder than you’d think...One for bikes with the Yammie noob logo?? Sign me up 👊✊
I am from atlanta GA. Otherwise known as the land of constantly changing lanes for absolutely no reason ALL the damn time.
1:46 look at the youtube search bar good to see he's doing his part
come on yam, the wallet costs more than i would ever keep in my wallet!
Splitting makes such a difference in my commute. Half the car drivers seem to be totally cool with it and will even move a bit for you while the other half just hates you for it and will block you or talk bad about it. Haha
I love your vids but dam your intros are too dam long. I just want to get into the video lol, But keep up the good work though.
Agreed!
Fast forward?
Gotta get that 10 minute ad revenue
Islael Avila just fast forward😂
Maybe we’ll see it in 2024 in Oregon. It was almost passed last year. The new gov was for it befor so I think we’ll get it soon.
For anyone in the coments that ride i highly recomend riding the kancamagus highway in New Hampshire just dont do it on a holiday to much trafic but any other time its great and the view is unmached
So glad we can split here in the UK. Would make for miserable riding if we couldn’t!
Do key chains for merch
Anson Young Yes!!!
Since I live on California I can split all I want to...BUT I'm kinda of a wuss because I don't take many risks splitting. When I do split, it's always just a little faster then traffic around me...
Yammie noob branded stress balls for work when we can't ride our motorcycles.
The unspoken rule for splitting in CA so I've been told is traffic should be going less than 40 and you shouldn't go more than 10mph faster than the flow of traffic. Buuuut since this isn't written down anywhere it's really anything goes...
Dear Yammie Noob,
i'm all for lanesplitting but holy shit its just as dangerous as sitting in traffic, i'd just say do it at your own discretion. my bike got written off literally last week because i got hit by a turning car in traffic while i was splitting, he wasn't indicating or using his mirrors, and unfortunately thats just the cager way.
In Austria (Europe) it's legal to do it if the cars are standing, for example at a red light
Here in Rome you can't live without lane splitting because of traffic and traffic restrictions around the historic center of the city. I always wondered why no one in America did it, I mean, it kinda defeats the whole purpose of a motorcycle! Great video tho, keep it up papa
Papa Yammie for President 2020
Do a keychain merch that’s like the “remove before flight” tag
I should move to Murica the traffic there is ridiculously easy to weave through.
Also I fucking love you papa yam your making riding a lot more fun and safe for me the rest of your baby yams.
I did lane splitting for 3 months. 🌝
Saved me 69% percent of time while commuting
True, Utah is on board...
even Hawaii allows shoulder surfing for 2 wheeled vehicles. which means ...you're not going to get pulled over for doing what you have to do.
Not anymore, unfortunately. Law automatically repealed at the start of this month.
Love the "Ask me how I know " line :))
I split when I was feeling that drivers were getting funky. I'd get out of the confusion that was showing up and triggering my 6th sense.
Thank you, Yammie
Make a black or dark grey (or a rainbow of other colors) t-shirt with the yammie noob helmet symbol. Better use decent quality t-shirts tho. And don't charge $25 each. $20 tops.... or at the very least... 1 for $25 and 2 for $40
Getting my first sport bike this year thanks you yam. Either gonna be the 650 or the zx6r.
