License in USA IS SOOOO EASYYY No wonder there are a bit more idiots on motorcycles... Yes I'm looking at you Tank top, shorts flip flops Busa rider...
***** Yeah, in Europe its like AM,A1,A2,A which is respectively, 50cc, 125cc (15KW),35KW,any size. I think the 50cc should be dropped cos its fairly useless maybe even the 125cc 15 kw increased to like 250cc 22kw or 300 cc 25 kw or something like that and the A2 to like 50-60 KW cos right now they are kinda pointless, but yea simply i just want them to shift the limit upwards, tho it definitely is helpful to those newer riders
[HUN]AntaresSQ01 i feel sorry for all of you guys in Europe. Your license requirements are ridiculous
Finding_Xeno Ye well numbers say different things, not to mention it feels better to get a license xd
***** Motorcycle deaths/accidents, an example of this: USA motorcycle accidents were around 90000 for 320 million people (about 1 accident every 3500 people) while in the UK it was 6000 accidents for 64 million people (1 accident every 10600 people) (tho this is a very trivial comparison, the number of accidents/deaths in the first year of riding are dramatically lower too)
Well our requirements in Europe are harder, but hardly ridiculous. You learn all the basics and you feel safe from day one riding your bike. I took my license over the course of 1 and a half month, paid its cost, and never have to worry about that again. Got safety instructions, know how my bike will handle near its limits, all that good stuff that you otherwise have 50% chance at learning, and 50% chance at it causing you to crash before you get to learn it :)

full motorcycle license in AUS? 2 years at least 100 hours of riding
Don't forget the $700 you need to pay just for your learners course in Tas. Add another $250 for the check ride.
:'(
Sucks to have other people dictate your life huh. Kinda like then telling you that you can only have a bolt action rifle with the bolt locked in a separate locker. Australia sucks.
And I will bet that in Australia, you lose many fewer new riders. In the US, the first six months of street riding is VERY dangerous.
@@johnc8910 most likely considering America had 8 times the riders and 20 times the 4 wheel vehicle driver. So math would dictate that the likelihood of an accident is way higher in the us as in Australia.

To beat the 'smart parents' ordeal, just buy the bike on your own and bring it home. If they kick you out of the house, time to become an adult. :)

Great video! I'm 26 and just started on a 600cc. It's amazing, but it's a lot heavier than most people expect and finding hidden sand and gravel is a harrowing experience. I love my 600 and wouldn't have started on anything smaller at my age and driving experience, but for now it's still plenty of power! I almost never leave 2nd gear unless I'm on the interstate. If you commute in traffic, you might not even leave first on some days.
Another big deal is, having a dark visor on your helmet is so freaking sexy! But if you take it out at night with a dark visor instead of a clear visor, it's terrifying! Especially if you're on the highway and there're divots in the road from construction or uneven lanes. Remember to swap visors if you go out anytime near dark.
One of the best channels on UA-cam, guy's actually adding value.
I just stumbled across your content this week. I’ve been riding for about 10 years now. And I still love watching all your videos. Well done!
hahaha Here in Germany we pay about 1500-2000€ for a licence that only lets you Drive a 125ccm and you need Like 20-30 hours of driving and also 12 hours theory -.- xD

Sad... Come to South Dakota if someone shits in the middle of the road people just keep walking.
Holy shit lol in the UK it’s £100 to get a license for a 125cc and it only takes 1 day.
@@Da5hed That doesn't sound right. Are you talking about your CBT?

Great video! I was thinking about making one similar to this one for years. Now it looks like I don't have to! :)
One suggestion though, although it's advantageous to know a manual transmission before hand, it's not even close to being necessary. I learned manual on a bike and without any help from anyone. I just practiced in my back yard and got it within an hour. At my MSF course there were some people who had never used a manual anything and they picked it up pretty quickly, well within the first day. The MSF course is designed to teach people who have limited-no knowledge in all areas of the bike.
Still do your own, its neat to see what each rider has to say :)
Blayne Maybe over the winter I'll make something, we'll see. I think Yammie's is really good and not sure what I could add! :)
Should you buy a second hand bike for your first bike? I live in the UK, so i cant ride 600-1000's until i'm 24 but i can ride 300's at 18 i was going to buy the ninja 300
My buddy picked up a ninja 650 a few months ago and tried convincing me to jump straight to a 650 or higher as a started bike. He wrecked it a few weeks after, thankfully he was ok, but needless to say I bought a R3 for my first bike. I pick it up next Friday and i'm super excited
And we are gonna ignore the fact that he draws incredibly
You're right on par with this vid! haha, I was 19 when I did my msf, and bought my new CBR250 with the ABS June of 2014. Got all my gear, rode at night the first hundred miles to get away from traffic, and took off commuting for 2 years :) I did 6000 miles the first 3 months on the little guy, rode all around AZ going to college and doing a bit of touring Tucson and surrounding areas of Phoenix (college was up there) Bought a 2009 R1200GS in late October and put down 21,000 miles in a year and a half. Fantastic bike for any weather and commute style. 12hr days going to Colorado Springs, riding in snow, 117F summers, off road camping for my 21st birthday... had a great time. Had one or 2 close calls all in all. Never a crash or accident but I looked like an ATGATT Power Ranger with reflective tape all over my bikes and hi-viz gear. Always helped.
Still shiny side up?
Yes, and thankful to be so :)

Thank you for making this video! I was seriously considering getting a 600CC but you brought up the fact that I'll do something stupid which is true
I’ve been riding for 5 years now and I think everything you said in your video was on point. I’ll recommend this to anyone who wants to get into riding.
I've always wanted an R6, but you're right. It makes more sense to start out on an R3 or a ninja 300. Much cheaper to own, and you can really explore the limits before moving up to the 600. I agree that riding a slow machine fast is way more fun than riding a fast machine slow. I don't ride yet, but it's unbelievable fun pushing my First car the Ford Focus and its 130 horses to the limit, so I can relate. I don't know what I'd do if I started with something like the 400 horsepower mustangs. Beginner's skills are much less accessible to learn starting from the top. Thanks for the tips Yams! And here's some pasta ~~~~~
i love your videos man. appreciate the hard work
I had an eye opening moment when I drove a 50cc aprilia last week with slick street tyres on a loose surface. I had never felt so free from all the stress and worries of the world. When I start I'll ride for the feeling of riding.
Love how informative and helpful you are to the new rider and to people who are considering riding
You know I've been riding motorcycles for over 3 years now, and I STILL found this video heavily entertaining to watch.
Solid suggestions and well done video, hope you're recovering quickly Yammie. For folks who really want to get into sportbikes, I'd suggest not just the Keith Code videos (find them all and watch them) but also the California Superbike School. I'd also recommend a track bike, something you can thrash and crash and not be out more money than you can afford to lose (because you will crash)... and expect gear to cost at a minimum twice as much.
Just wanted to throw this out there for all the newbs and taller folks. I’m 6”4’ 180lbs and I have been riding my 2017 Ninja 300 for 3 months now and it’s fucking perfect. It fits me well. I never get sore while riding it. I don’t feel like I’m gonna die every time I ride it. I get to use all the bike’s power whenever I want to. It looks sick and it has an after market carbon fiber exhaust with a mean sound to it. This is my first bike I’ve ever owned and it’s been nothing but fun. When I told experienced riders that I bought a 300 as my first bike all of them were happy for me but I also heard a lotta them say one of two things (usually both):
you’re way too big for that.
Those things are slow as fuck. You’re gonna be bored with it and you won’t be able to ride on highways.
Wrong and wrong.
I once rode my Ninja for three hours and I didn’t feel sore (I do yoga so maybe my flexibility helps me 🤷♂️) Also, I can easily ride on highways. I’ve never felt like it was too slow. Sometimes I need to downshift to pass but I’ve always felt like I’ve had ample power.
Buying a bike was seriously one of the best decisions I’ve ever made and it’s my new passion in life. It’s the first thing I think about doing after work on a sunny day. I’m only at the beginning of my journey but I’m so happy to have tapped into the unexplored realm of bikes. Can’t wait to see where this journey takes me.
Stay safe and have fun out there ✌️
It’s simple, I love the wind, a windshields a and b pillars block the views, and it feels good like a self esteem boost
"Before you go apeshit and buy whatever bike you see" Lol I picture someone frothing at the mouth tossing cash about.
4 wheels move the body, 2 wheels move the soul. Nuff said.

When i grow up i'll have ridden motocross for years, this is my first motocross season at age 11! It's the dream.
Vicatoren hows that motocross going bud? Still going at it?
Hey 13 year old. How you doing with motorcrossing?
On Mexico, when I bought my motorcycle I went to get the permision to have a motorcycle license, when I got there, on the bike, the officer told me "did you ride the bike to get here?" "I said yes" then the guy told me "then I guess you know how to do it whitout killing yourself" and gived me the license that same day, whitout making any exam or test.
5 hours of theory and 10 hours of riding? You got to be kidding me...Right?
As a smug Scandinavian who has to complete 46 hours of theory, 16 hours of driving in normal traffic, 8 hours on a maneuvering course and 10 hours on a track (Yes, we HAVE to go play superheroes on a racetrack with professionals giving us feedback on our performance to even get a license) let me give you some tips.
Always, ALWAYS keep your distance to cars. They might be textmessaging, getting a blowjob from a passenger etc. Keep your distance. You've got nothing but the wind in your helmet to keep you company, the car drivers have many distractions.
Keep to the left hand side of any vehicle you come upon. The vehicle infront of you can see you in the mirrors and you dont risk being overtaken by some fuckwhit thinking there is room to "squeeze" by you by stealing your lane.
Get a proper sized motorcycle. You are almost certainly going to crash within your first year and learn the lessons I've put above. Dont let it be an expensive bike.
Enjoy yourself. :)
Heh, it'll really blow your mind when I tell you that the 10 hours of "riding" in the MSF course amounts to just riding around in a big, empty parking lot doing maneuvers around little orange cones. You never go higher than 3rd gear or 30 mph and never even ride on a public street with actual traffic. You literally just follow some painted lines on the pavement and dodge cones.
150 dollar över en helg, för jävla billigt haha
"You've got nothing but the wind in your helmet to keep you company, the car drivers have many distractions. "
Lol, I just installed a SENA kit in my helmet, so I've got music for company.
"You are almost certainly going to crash within your first year"
Simply not true. Especially not if you're a slowcoach like me.
Are you telling me that, doing what you've described, will make you qualified to take a smaller motorcycle, let alone a 1000CC bike, to the street?
Bananer! Yeah, you can go buy a Hayabusa, Rocket III, or H2 and ride it with no restrictions after the MSF course and a 20 question multiple choice test.
A twist of the wrist taught me so many valuable riding techniques. That book helped teach me how to ride my 97 katana 750 so fast that i was easily riding local back roads faster than every single honda shadow 750 in no time. Seriously, they didnt stand a chance.
Advice for new riders, I feel like glove choice is really important item that can be easy to overlook. Throttle control can be tricky enough to get right at first, and its a good idea to make sure the gloves feel right to you. The right glove can be the difference between feeling the throttle and being comfortable, or jerking the throttle worse than a 2006 fz1 with the factory fuel map. Personally i prefer a nice thin race style glove that gives me really good feel, but everyone is different! Be safe out there!
My best friend let me have my first ride on his bike and I just fell in love with riding a motorcycle in general its becoming a passion all i think is bikes, i also found that i loved the sport bike more than i thought i would

MSF in Cali doesn't provide gloves either. But military can take the MSF course for free.

Since MSF courses are closed in CA right now, I went to the DMV and got my permit. Just cant ride at night or on freeways and im getting a lot of real world practice.
Dude, you just get there and they hand you the license? No classes, no tests? Crazy
@@jorelplay8738 You have to take a 30 question test for the permit. But it allows you to ride any type of motorcycle. So i can go buy a turbo busa and ride with only my permit.
@@nickhermo2936 wait so you didn’t need to do the skills test?
@@jagkailey4986 for a permit there is not a physical ride test required. No night time riding no passengers no freeway riding. You'll have to take the actual ride test or MSF course for the license. But the permit to ride during the day alone is just a multiple choice question test.
I have been wanting a bike. Nothing I love more than freedom. Bikes just radiate endless freedom. The wind, the smell, two wheels, the ability to go anywhere and go around people. Its all about the road not the things you bring with you. Love it.
I like riding since I was a kid in the Caribbean. when there's traffic I can easily get thru traffic when traffic is at a stand still and the great gas saver.
You can legally obtain your license without taking the safety class. Safe ridding is really something you learn on your own anyway. The only real benefit to the class is the cheaper insurance.
Disagree. The most important thing you'll learn from the class is defensive riding. Everyone in a cage is trying to kill you and you need to know how to avoid it.
Buy a Supermoto... lol. I will say that my first bike was my first manual transmission. I was fine. Also my fist bike was an R6 and I was fine. Just use your head. With the 600 power band if you keep it under 10k rpms it's pretty tame.

I highly recommend riding dirt before you get on the street. you don't have to worry about everyone else, just yourself. my son's first Street bike is a 72 honda cb500, $15 a month for full coverage insurance. it also looks like a beast after we turned into a cafe bike
Mike Mays I'm looking to get a bike and that's what I've been doing. I go out for the day and spend the morning playing with the clutch/gears, I'll stop and go, and ride some trails. Then, I have fun on the bike and play on the tracks and try some more aggressive riding. I've found it very helpful and you get to have fun (like you said you doubt have to worry about anyone else)! Win-win

I have a recommendation for reading once you have some experience under your belt and want to get REALLY good at practical riding
Motorcycle Roadcraft: The Police Rider's Handbook
Cops ride their bikes day in and day out doing everything from high speed traffic stops and chases to responding down twisty roads to extreme low speed riding. It won't teach you how to do dank whoolies or how to shave a couple seconds off your time, but it will teach you what you need to able to become a safer rider where it counts. $15 new on amazon, $18 on kindle
Note, this book is UK oriented. Laws may differ, teachings do not.
Good thing motorcycle licenses in europe are so expensive that most of the jerks get sorted out right at the beginning. Then you still have to do 14 hours of theory and 12-20 hours of supervised riding and take 2 exams. You basically need to be commited to riding here and not do it "to pick up some girls"
theJMan well you still have distracted car drivers and bad road surfaces so not a lot less but i think there is a difcrence.
Dominykas Ciunys we don't have people doing wheelies, because no young person has the money to afford a hobby like this. thats why you see 1200gs riding everywhere literally 80% of bikes. It's the most sold bike in germany and that thing is 17k+
Yea of course in Europe we too have the occasional Gixxer guy sitting in the ditch after sliding out from a too steep turn angle in a corner. You really can't sort those people out no matter where on earth you are :D But otherwise, yea. People who do wheelies etc are typically guys who have ridden for a long time due to 1, age restricts license, and 2, bikes with power to easily do that stuff are expensive so very few will buy such a bike as their first.
Then as said other road users are still a danger and totally oblivious to the fact that us two wheelers are here as well. However, because everyone undergoes reasonable training in evasive maneuvers etc, many people can deal with sudden hazardous situations fairly well.
At least here in Denmark it is not often that you see or hear about a biker crash. Most people ride big adv bikes too (yes, GS is so famous), or cruisers and sportsbikes when weather is good.
Cafe racers are also very popular in the bigger cities
The last time I saw young show-offs doing wheelies I was at a beer festival, they must've seen the crowd and decided to demonstrate their skills... except one of the riders overcooked his wheelie and the bike flew out from under him in front of hundreds of laughing people. They were riding dirt/MX bikes on the road. It's usually those types showing off.
How expensive is the motorcycle license in Europe? I'm curious because here in Canada it's around a thousand dollars. There six hour of class, 16 hours on bikes in a parking lot and 10 hours out on the road.
Because my dad has rode about 30 types of motorcycles in his life and my first time riding one was on a dirt bike,i just fell in love with the adrenaline and “fear” so u want one
I cruise around on my bike with every turn I take it’s so calming
I started on a 2018 turbo Hayabusa 4 years ago. I would recommend everyone start out the same way.
I started on a 600cc and I love it
Which 600 was it?
Same. Started on a f4 and am still loving it.
ChickenBrainOnAStick it was a 2001 honda f4i. fast light and not to twitchy though
Ramos do you still have it? I been riding for 4 months now thinking about buying the r1s
Damn dude you're already wanting more bike? I have also been riding for 4 months, about 4k miles so far and im still content with the power. 2nd gear at 13k feels like plenty to me. I'm 18 and plan on keeping it all throughout college.
Hey Yammie, thanks a lot for making these vids. They are awesome and informative!
I just got a Honda c125 supercub. I live in Massachusetts, and bought it in New Hampshire. So my first time ever on a motorcycle, I rode it from NH to MA. About 57 miles. It was one of the most terrifying experiences of my life. No riding experience, traffic everywhere, and was lost most of the time. That was two days ago. Today, I rode for about an hour. Got it up to 55mph, which is near top speed on my bike.
*me watching this at 14 JUST in case* 😳
same
That was me 4 years ago man, now I ride a rebel 500.
13 lol
I find it hard to understand/believe how easy it seems to be to get a motorcycle licence in the USA according to this video. Is it really as simple as applying for it, and you get it? The uk abandoned that approach in 1935, as it had too high a fatality count. Now it has a theory test (what road signs/marking mean, etc) compulsory basic training (CBT) to make sure you know where the brake lever is, etc. Then are 2 actual riding tests. Part 1 is off road, such as parking/manoeuvring in a car park or putting the stand down, getting off, and then moving the bike. part 2 where an examiner follows you as you ride on the road telling you where to go. After that anyone under 22 is limited to about a 250 (35Kw) for 2 yearsPersonally I found that large enough, as there are full sized 250's out there, and they keep up with the traffic.
I like our system, it's best to ride for a good amount of time on a small engine machine to learn all the basics of traffic and handling. But I do find it a little harsh for larger teenagers and young adults. Being restricted to a 50 , then a 125 must be hell for a heavier youth who needs reliable, independent transport. especially when some of these same kids could legally drive any car.
America land of the free and home of the brave
Glad this is the first video i watched lol. Ive already got an expensive pc hobby, but ive always wanted to experience the road in a different way. There’s something more human about being on a bike and going to a taco bell than driving to one
Just finished my endorsement classes and waiting on my license. I'm hooked... lord save me now. Shopping for a decent beginner bike now
WTF! In germany u usually pay 1300€+ only for the license
1306$ for plates, 100+ for the licence and 250~ for the insurance in canada quebec for a super sport
Minimum! Then you have to pay 1300€+ per month for sportbike insurance!
2500 - 3000€ in Norway, you are lucky.
max1manus jeez.. and i thought Germany is expensive.. but then again Minimum wage Here is 8.5€ so it all kinda equals out
And it takes waaaaay more time too. One weekend licence wtf?!
The first time I rode a track bike I went like 50 mph in SECONDS and it scare dthe SHIT outta me, of course afterward I thought it was the coolest thing on the planet that I had ever done- but about an hour later my chronic anxiety kicked in and I almost threw up from all the excitement. ;u;
oof
I'm 13 and instead of a car at 15 or 16 I want to have a bike. My adopted father tried to get me into bikes from a very young age and for my 5th or 6th birthday he got me a Honda dirt bike ,automatic, like 2 1/2 ft tall bike (probably smaller) and I loved it. I drove it for like 3 years and I was outgrowing it so he got me a bigger dirt bike that was manual and was like 4 times the size and I couldn't drive it literally at all, I accidentally put it in neutral instead of first and fell completely over lol. My grandpa also has a bike and regularly goes on rides with some club I don't remember the name of and took me on them with him. At this time I was 10 or 11 and I found bike riding extremely fun but still had no idea how to ride a manual bike. I know nothing about bikes, gear, or anything but I find it extremely fun. I'm looking to get a street legal dirt bike because I'll be off road most of the time and want to be able to drive it when I get a license on the road. I'm looking for suggestions because I have no idea about anything...
My wife and I are looking at buying brand mew bikes for our first time. We been doing so much research and planning over the last year and it’s finally getting down to the wire!
We are both looking at a YZF R3 and I feel like we are going to have the time of our lives!
I like motorcycle because I think there cool and I would learn to ride it
MSF course in Ohio is only $50
I know I'm late but holy fuck! I never knew that, thanks for saving me research, lol. It's good to be an Ohioan, right?
Griffin yeah lmao, I'm taking mine in about 2 months
@@rileydeck4728 Did you do it yet? How'd it go?
My first bike was a Honda Interceptor 700. V-Twin. The nice thing about a v motor versus an inline motor is that it produces torque down low but not a high-end revline which can get New Riders into trouble. If you want to have a fast Supersport looking bike that's going to be safe for a new person the Interceptor is a great choice
I now ride a 650 Kawasaki Vulcan S ABS and love it. Had no idea what I was missing. I learned on a 250 Honda Rebel.
The MSF cource I took provided the bikes. It was bloody expensive $585 here in Nova Scotia Canada.
