Having pastored across denominational lines and having an ecumenical ministry of sorts, I can say this with all honesty. If and when you go into a denomination, Avoid being put in a box by Any Denomination. Be accountable first to God and He will direct your path. Learn to be abased and learn to abound. Be comfortable and confident in your own walk with God if you have a pulpit or if you don’t, in ministry or not. You are first and foremost a minister before God. Truth will lead you beyond your Denomination’s theological stance and that’s OK. Don’t substitute your own walk with God for being a Company man. Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness. Denominations can provide a lot of support but they can also take a lot, if not all, the personal experiences with God and replace it with a neatly wrapped box with a bow on it devoid of any spirituality. Polity is not the same as “Thus sayeth the Lord.” So be flexible. For the 11th commandment could have been, blessed are the flexible for they shall not be broken. Study sermons from other denominations than your own. You will become a better preacher for it.

Once churches begin requiring their leaders to have a degree to serve. You know that their church is a business and lost its original intention.
It’s unfortunate because the message they unknowingly spread is, “if you don’t have a degree you can’t teach Bible, you can’t know Bible. So let me tell you what to think because I have this paper and you don’t”

Understand the cost. The debt coming out of Divinity school is not worth it. Had I know what I know now, I would not have gone to Divinity school.

nobody cares You will not earn enough money to pay it off in a decent time. You will be basically leaving with a mortgage.
It’s ironic, Divinity schools should have a Christian policy that won’t allow future leaders who are going to serve the community leave with debt.

True - most teachers make more money and have better benefits than pastors. I know people will point out the "celebrity" pastors with their million-dollar book deals and outrageous speaking fees, but those are few. Most pastors are barely able to pay for what they need today and have no means of saving for the future.

Yes. Pastor, Minister, Reverend all mean the same thing in theology. They mean 'Servant'. Any Christian can be a servant if they are speading the good news of Christ's gift to us. But to run a church you need lots of varying studies. You need to know the ends and outs of theology and how to perform the services and sacraments as well as how to write sermons and such.

How much did the 12 Apostles pay Jesus for HIS education? NOTHING!! I’d hate to be judged by the Lord for trying to profit off of His FREE GIFT!!!

,,,,👁,,,. . . Unless you have established harmonious relation of everyday life with issues like Jesus turning water to wine , Turning the other chick, "Giving off" your second coat, and Logos, ,,,, never mind, don't even open your mouth at attempting to (preach) anyone anywhere ever.

Denominations can ALLOW you or NOT ALLOW you to do something like studying online?
    That sounds like a cult

I'll make it easy for you - don't go to seminary. Evangelical churches want this mix: business and communications background and someone who is attractional and can pack the pews with their personality.
