    I've had my Phantom 2 c/w GoPro Hero 3+ BE mounted on a Zenmuse H3-3D gimbal for about 3 months. One lesson I learned is to always perform a calibration of my quadcopter before each flight when I get to a new shooting location. I haven't had any crashes or mishaps since doing this!!

    Awesome footage in the beginning
    Funnily I just today saw footage on TV that looked like it was shot with a drone, probably this specific drone since it seems to be really starting off the filmmaking/drone thing, especially in the professional sector.

    From time to time I return to this video for the clip from 0:24 to 1:01 .That combination of the drone,cinematography and soundtrack is remarkable! Having Chris fishing in the shot added a narrative element.Pretty good for guys who work in a camera store!

    In the future should you have communication issue again with the controller, top stop your Phantom from auto landing you need to toggle the S1 switch to the bottom position then back to the top. It will allow you to regain control in the event of it being in return to home or auto landing procedure.
    It would have been good for you to have downloaded the full manual from DJIs website and read through it before flying.

  • @Ben7seven7
    @Ben7seven7 10 років тому +3

    Additional reasons you had problems.
    You probably did not give the phantom enough time to establish a proper home lock before taking off. If you did, then the phantom 2 would have flown back to its take off position when it lost connection to the controller vs landing in the lake. So that problem was created by you having the gopro wifi on while using a phantom with a 2.4ghz control, and secondly for not having a full GPS home lock before take off.

    Also the term drone is often used for these copters made popular by the Parrot AR Drone, but purists will prefer the proper term for Phantoms and similar aircrafts. The proper term being either Quad Copter or a Multi Rotor. If it was a six rotor then it would be called a Hex copter

    Great video, once again. But it's weird, whenever I saw the drone I just couldn't help but see it as a special effect. I don't think my mind has fully accepted that they really exist yet, it all seems too sci-fi. They are amazing tools, a god-send for indie film-makers, but they do make me a little uncomfortable. The morality of drone warfare still troubles me greatly. Anyway, rest easy, that's not what this tool is about and the panning shots of the misty weather... well, the weather gods were on your side that day, clearly. Thank you CamerastoreTV for going that extra mile in your reviews to really create something worth looking at. And hope you got some good fishing in, Chris!

    Great footage, I got myself the first phantom, the one without the gimbal. They are a great way to lean how to fly, but its easy to forget about flying safe. The GPS on the phantom works, but the return to home function is not the most accurate. Here is some footage of my phantom when my controller turned off, it flew about 30 yards from where it took off and landed in a pine tree. The cool thing is that it righted itself before it hit the ground, didn't t even break a prop. 2:22 first flight

    Great video. I am trying to figure out how to keep the control on the left always being left, and right always being right… I have S1 and S2 in the top position, but when the drone is facing me, left is right, and right is left… Am I doing something wrong?

    "Eventually they will..." is true, but not on the California earthquake schedule. Much more frequently. Beginners understandably rarely know all they're up against, and there is a significant learning curve. Little things like how much wind can you fly in (and still get decent video). And checklist items like what do all the LED codes mean, and did you take off but forget to start the GoPro recording. Prop guards (which cut into flight time) are popular for a reason.

  • @Ben7seven7
    @Ben7seven7 10 років тому

    Couple problems here with what you're doing and suggesting. 1) do not use the wifi on a gopro. Explanation: that's the reason you lost control of your phantom 2, they both are operating on 2.4ghz and your gopro wifi killed the transmitter feed to the phantom.
    2) You don't need the dji light bridge for FPV on a phantom 2. You can use a wide array of 5.8ghz video transmitters that will give you good quality standard definition video and long range and at relatively low cost. You'll also want to get the iosd mini for telemetry data.
    3) the vision plus uses 5.8gjz control and 2.4ghz to the wifi ok your phone or tablet for the live FPV.

    It is no surprise that the phantom fell into the river as using the wifi on the go pro is using the same frequency as the remote control for the phantom which will force it into failsafe mode. If you want a video feed with the go pro, rig up a fatshark FPV system.

    • @josephbilling
      @josephbilling 10 років тому

    • @gregoryfricker9971
      @gregoryfricker9971 10 років тому +1

      I would encourage you to check out phantompilots.com and search for go pro wifi. The interference issue with 2.4ghz wifi and 2.4 ghz radio transmitter is why the phantom 2vision+ operates at 5.8 ghz even at the sacrifice of reduced range. While the stars do not always line up, having the wifi on the go prom will act much like being near a power line and will cause either fail safe mode or lack of responsiveness. If you remember, chase jarvis lost a phantom because of this wifi issue, the video is here on UA-cam.

    3:20 dont be scared. if you read the manual first you would know why things happend. laning in water at signal loss?. probably low voltage and set to auto land at location. thats what it comes configurated at from dji. thats a safety feature. if you read the manual, you would know that going into ATTI would give you the control back. If the controllers batteries was bad, that could also trigger it to land. Im at 7 months with my phantom 2. 0 problems because i take my time and read up on things. always expect problems and fly safe. but its a very capable plattform. If you want one, go to dji.com and download the assistant software first. update everything. learn how it works. cheers

    • @GranVlog
      @GranVlog 9 років тому +3

      also. at 5:40 . You must NEVER fly with the gopro wifi on. it can and probably will result in a flyaway. you operate the phantom 2 at 2.4ghz. the gopro wifi is also 2.4ghz. that would create a lot of interference and result in loss of control at some point. What you do want is something called FPV gear. that is made up of a video transmitter, monitor with a built in receiver and some antennas. most people go with 5.8 ghz. its a LOT cheaper than lightbridge and gives you analog video down. not HD but its plenty to fly with and frame your shot. its also small. dont need anything bigger than 200mw. good antennas and you are looking at 3km range.

    That's all I can say about the DJI products. There is no support, and I don't think TheCameraStore will be able to support when DJI won't. l encourage you to RUN, not walk away from DJI products. Sorry guys, nice video, but people need to be warned.

    After about 3 - 4 mos. of fairly routine, my Phantom II now does faux "landings" by itself. It then can completely just shut down in mid-air and fall!!! I think this is NOT a seasoned product and will crash at random intervals NO MATTER what the preparations (yes, the batteries are charged, no close wires, etc!). BY some other brand!!

    The Lightbridge does NOT work with the GoPro 4 in 4K mode, so what's the point of spending all that money? Secondly, don't buy a $1500.00 quadcopter until you learn to fly a $40.00 one first, unless of coarse you're a millionaire and don't mine paying for repairs of constantly buy new ones. Happy flying!

    An excellent review from TCS TV, a responsible outfit that's not trying to appeal to an audience of clueless geeks and witless 10-yr. olds w/ their first boners, by hyping up the "fun" of "spying" using these devices, or by doing incredibly stupid and dangerous stunts w/ them like flying them at low altitudes along busy highways so that they could very easily distract drivers and cause accidents.
