- It may sound like the buzzing of a swarm of bees, but it's actually the whirring of the new DJI Phantom Vision+ quadcopter that we've been testing. We head out to Treasure Island to get some flying lessons and then sit down to explain why we're so excited about RC drone technology. The first part of this video was actually shot with the Phantom 2 Vision+!

I would like to see it come with a full extra set of props and a extra battery.
The kit comes with two full sets of props, and I believe DJI sells a package where a second battery only costs $70. That's the one I would get.
Tested Just ordered that, pretty expensive in Canada... comes out to $1700 with taxes and shipping.
But next to other alternatives... it's a bargain.

I feel like they can make these so much better than they are, but they're not. They purposely do this so they leave stuff to "improve" on to keep selling more every year
It's a business. They do the exact same things with Mp3 players, phones, computer, tablets, etc.
It's not that easy as you might think.
Things that come out nowadays were designed a year or two ago.
Designing and engineering stuf consumes a lot of time.

2 go pros beaming to a laptop with renders the footage into stereoscopic 3d with an oculus rift connected to it. We can finally answer the question: what would it be like to fly like a bird.
that'd just be a real time video game, the "fly like a bird" idea is about the sensation not just what you see but itd still be really cool. I think itd be more fun without the 3d side, just a real life video game.....Google Street view: the video game haha
Thats something I have been curious about once theres support for controlling sensor in the rift to control the camera gimbals
the only issue i could see would be 1 for it to work both the drone AND the occulus would need constant wifi or some type of connection to the internet (4G from a phone provider maybe?) and if not and it was a straight connection from controller/oculus to drone, youd be a weirdo wearing that in public and have no idea whats going on around you lol

The company who made this really need to incorporate the Oculus Rift. Head motion controls looking around from the camera on the Phantom and only the controller is used to ascend and descend
Goggles actually made for FPV (look it up on youtube) have headtracking in them and they are like $300. Look up Fatshark Dominators

DJI is really doing amazing work creating some really awesome drones.
Is it easy to fly? And can i fly it outside when it is a bit windy? I really want one, but i need to be sure because it is very expensive. And if you record the video while flying, where does it save the files?

Erik Huisman Before you get this I recommend something like the blade nano qx. This will help you get used to the controls. My neighbour has one that I recommended and eventually he was flying quads of this size. Always get a smaller to learn on and the one I recommended is not meant for outdoors but has prop guards to stop crashes indoors.

Erik Huisman yes it will teach you the skills required to fly the phantom without crashing it.

I have a DJI F450 and a TBS Discovery. I recommend the F450 as it is a kit and easily upgradeable and replacement parts are cheap.
Uk has certain no fly zones . mostly near airports ..Also you MUST stay under 400 feet unless you are in the highlands where there is no altitude limit .

RC Planes can do the same and they have been around for more than 40 years.
One, its can't really carry more than 2 lbs. And two, its easier to just ram it. Also I agree with the others on this one, they wouldn't use a drone just use a car or something

This drone is really perfect for capturing new sights and places that you can't on a common camera.
I cringe every time I hear/read the word "drone" associated with the R/C hobby.
Yea, me too! Then again I cringe when I hear "Tarmac" used as well!
Except 'drone' is quite accurate in this case, given it has GPS and some automatic flight capacity, like return to home. Why not claim the term back, and refer to the instruments of war as UCAVs?

Every Drone is a RC Toy but not every RC toy is a Drone..... I hate it too.... but My bixler and DJI f550 do fly them selfs home and to way points and my bixler can go 8km or more away with my 900mhz video link so it can be classed as a drone..
UAS (Unmanned Aerial System) is the FAAs "new" term for the entire range of aircraft. I've actually though the term quite insulting to a whole sex of bees!

The vision line is overpriced but the Phantom 2/Zenmuse line is right on the money. There is a significant bang for the buck in these things and I love mine!

You've got to factor in the value of convenience. If you're the type of person who reads the manual before you use things, you can essentially pick one of these up on Monday and be shooting amazing video on... Monday. And the 1st version (which is still quite valid) is way cheaper if you want to provide your own optics.

At this moment in time I am still learning the art of flying & filming with quad-copters using my UDI U818A (which I highly recommend as a training quad) But soon as I am competent I shall be up-grading to the Phantom.
Only quad, crap battery, overpriced, looks like iphone gadget, other than that I would like to have one.
well.. just because it's clean looking. i think that the design is pretty good. dont let the size and looks fool you. it's a very capable machine. the battery is not crap :P why do you say that?

Thank you! Been flying for years, and the word drone being used for what I fly pisses me off. 99% of people associate drones with killing and spying! which which we don't do. I love this channel, but hated this video.

Awesome review... I am a photog/video guy by trade. I just ordered this (not the vision but the H3-3D phantom 2 model) and am going to use it with the Hero 3 for real estate. thanks guys.
What's really needed is a very small device that transmits a homing signal, not just for the copter but also for the camera to stay aimed at. That way if you are filming someone, they simply turn the device on, put it in their pocket, and as they go about filming the scene the drone will always know which way to keep the drone turned and where to aim the gimbaled camera for a smooth transition as the drone either hovers nearby or flys by or around the moving or stationary subject.

Definitely going to have to look into getting one of these. Haven't flown RC since building bulsa/fabric as a kid but this certainly looks like temptation enough to get back into it. The software looks like it makes this easy to fly but since it is so expensive to crash I would also ask experienced folks what the best way is to get up to speed flying these. Fortunately, I have a friend who has 3 quadcopters so I think it is time to go to that resource. Amazing tech. I wonder what one costs on the streets of HK.

That's great. Terrific hobby now the technology is there to be used. In the UK we are encouraged to have insurance when using these Phantoms or something on the same scale. Great footage.

Nice to have a tweaked camera from the factory. I had Three (3) P2V's and returned them because the camera's colors were always out, grainy images and dead pixels in low light. I ordered the New P2 with H3-3D and GoPro 3+ and all the bells and whistles, and it really wasn't that much more and I got a camera(s) that doesn't have to stay strapped on the Phantom all the time and it flies circles around the FC200

A quad-copter video watched via an Oculus Rift would be incredible. The company behind the quadcopter just needs to equip it with a 360-degree camera.

I have an older 1st generation Phatom and probably won't be able to resist upgrading to this guy. I think a lot of people who are ragging on the video quality and insist that the Phantom 2 with Hero 3 is a better option don't understand that if you buy the Phantom 2 with the H3-3D Zenmuse mount ($969) you still won't have the real time video view and flight telemetry data going to your iphone/ipad. You will have to spend another $500-$700 on extra gear to get the same functionality... and it will weigh more so you will get less flight time.
I live in scotland and today it was extremely windy. And a guy with his friend deciDed to fly this through the town, and because of the wind he crashed it into a balcony. The fire brigade actually had to come and collect it. The fiasco stopped traffic for about half an hour. LoL!
I bought one of these last week (the phantom 2 with h3-3d gimbal)
You can see my unboxing, the first test raw footage, and a slightly polished film i shot with it on my channel if anyone wants to see more.
i just bought one and charging the batteries now but yall did not say what exactly the phone device up grade was so we may see what the 400+ ft flight means, but loved the video and footage.. supper great interview with yall.
I ended up buying one of these. They are either back-ordered or I'm being taken for a ride. We'll see.
