You Aren't What You Own! | Let Those Attachments Go! (Walk & Talk)

- Your self worth isn't determined by the stuff you own. You are more than the crap you buy and the junk you have in your house. Learning to let go of attachments to possessions isn't easy, but it is necessary if you want to live your best life.

Attach yourself to experiences in life. Totally be involved in your own events and not your personal possessions, and watch how rich an experience your life will become. This is something I’m learning to adopt and use in my own life.
Thoreau wrote about the movement to luxuries and excess and the increased need to work harder and longer. That was in the 1840’s. He shook his head at the town folks rushing to get on the train into Boston from Concord to make the bigger bucks just to pay for the excess they now had less time to enjoy. I found this fascinating since it was 175 years ago and we still say and do it today more than ever.
GREAT OBSERVATION, And just to think he said that men lead quiet lives quiet lives of desperation. I often wondered what are we so desperate for, because after we impress the Jones's next door we still have to deal with our inner soul and the new car smell only last 6 months! ⚜ Greetings from NOLA 👍🏼
In the rat race of life, the mouse with the most cheese , wins ,then the IRS takes it.
Ho. Hi. You may not realize, but your point represents one of basic tenets of Buddhism. They go further when it comes to attachments. The teachings ask to let go of attachments not only to possessions, but also to outcomes. People tend to wish for certain situations to happen and desire situations to be a certain way. They become attached to those wanted future results. So, when outcomes do not happen as planned, people become depresssed. Hence, the advise is to not get attached to(to let go of desire to) having things and also having outcomes or any particular order of things. They say desire(attachment) is the real cause of suffering. So, minimalism has some similar views with Buddhism. Other similar western philosophy I heard of is Stoicism
When I first heard this abt buddhism I could not even comprehend it.
If only more people saw things this way!!! I myself long for the "good ole days" when things were much more simple. Thank you for all your inspirational videos!
No problem! Maybe the good ole days will come back around again eventually
@@TimothyWard live the way the native americans lived in balance with the earth..
I am 56 and l don't own any dishes/furniture..l have a $300.00 mattress and a free bicycle. I don't drive so no need to get a car. I can't stand "stuff". Hate it. I've been homeless a lot in my life but l have a full time job. My goal is to save a ton of money. So living a free lifestyle life is my goal. I am very happy NOT to have stuff. Be safe Tim l love your videos.
Sounds like you're just replacing hoarding "stuff" with hoarding money.
I get it......you really have control over you.....things(possessions) come and go.....but YOU yourself will always remain until you no longer walk this earth.........
Exactly!
It's because our society has become so corporate. The snake oil salesman is king of our society right now. We are bombarded by TV radio social media billboards. Just look at the money and salaries invested into marketing. Great video
Great points as usual. Happiness comes from our family, friends, experiences not materialist possessions. Ever since I've embraced minimalism, my stress level has been decreasing and the bank account increasing!
Right on brother! 👊
I admit that I’m guilty of being too attached to this world 🌎 and the possessions. I really am working very hard to change that mindset.
I think that I already have enough and enough possessions. Now I do not want more stuff I want more freedom. Traveling more, exploring etc You say stuff that no one is going to learn at school. I think that I am more attached to my BMW than my wife. That's not normal LOL You are not crazy. Freedom makes you happy. It was a very interesting video. Thanks!
BMW doesn't drag you in divorce.
I used to have 2 nice cameras, but when I moved away to another city I threw them out. Once I got to my new residence I bought a few used ones. I still have them. I mainly use my camera phone for different projects. I don't like buying new things when there are used products that work as well. I also purchased used laptops too. They still work well. I never get attached to anything. It's not worth it. I know what you mean.
Love this guy... Free spirited...laid back...simple and truthful.
Another MASTERPIECE of TimTalk Treasures! Privileged and Blessed to Watch your Content Tim!!!!
Bruh I needed to see this video in the worst way........I already have a 2018 car and a 2021 SUV that's paid for..........this past Saturday I was supposed to buy this 40K Camero and at the last minute something told me not to get in that debt trap anymore......and over the last few days I was going back and forth on whether I should have gotten it..........then I ran across this video.........thanks bruh!
this walk and talk was back to the roots of the Timothy Ward channel.
Yeah, I want to start doing more of them. I like walking and I definitely like talking so it's a win/win lol
You are absolutely correct... Right now i have waay too many possessions that i dont need. But some i do want... Watching you helps me do it slowly but surely... I eventually want to live out of 1 room in my 2 bedroom apt.. Thats when I know I've succeeded. Thanks Tim.. I'm sending this video to all my friends.
You'll get there! Thanks for the shares!
I mostly agree on this one, but here's something interesting to think about. I was recently at a museum looking at an ancient Inuit man's bow drill bow (the thing that makes friction fire). It was simply a RIB BONE with cordage on it! But think of what that would represent in the harsh Arctic - WARMTH, survival, cooking... so much. What's more, he carved his ENTIRE autobiography in pictures into this bone, and now we were able to learn about his crazy 40 year journey on earth. Just amazing. He didnt have much, which is relevant to minimalism for sure, but I bet that thing meant SO much to him. Sentimental objects are awesome, but it AINT the end of the world if you lose one, that's for sure... Just find another rib bone 😂 Food for thought!
Born with nothing and you leave with nothing. Good vid Tim God bless
I like that. I'm Scott, I'm not my stuff. Thank you, Tim!
Exactly Scott!
I bought Possessions as a defense measure. If the checking account had $10,000 in it ...my wife Would go on a shopping spree. She can’t carry two atv’s with her to shop with.
Hahaha! That's too funny! Well I guess you had a good reason to buy things lol

Hello Timothy. Im going to enjoy the walk with you. I just walkef my 4 miles at one of our National Parks.
Family bibles were special but I guess that was a family record too
Great message Tim!
Thank you for this video Tim....
I get the comic book thing lol...I'm selling and getting rid of everything I don't need. Selling my original Neil Gaiman Sandman comics hurt more than I thought it would. That being said though it is a very freeing experience.
Great Walk and Talk. Thanks
