Thank you so much. I'm handy with computers but overclocking was never taught where I learned. So was a little nervous when a friend asked me for help overclocking his, but with this I think I can handle it AND add a new service to my work lol. So again, thank you.
Thanks, I've downloaded Afterburner and have created an OC profile using Linus' settings. I haven't really needed to enable OC'ing yet, it's coped quite well with everything I've thrown at it just using the factory OC, but it's nice to have that little bit extra in reserve.
Ok, this is a good overclocking guide, can't say I agree with everything but still a lot of work put into this. So guys, please be considerate and don't give out hate. (Also I'd like to point out this is #69 :3, I don't think I need to say anything else XD)
i burned my last video card with furmark, it even started smoking, black smoke came from my pc case, i lied to seller that it just stopped working while gaming, and i got guarntee fix
@Austin Tanner - It's an HSPC 'Top Deck' Tech Station from highspeedpc. He even has a video on it, I found out when I googled for 'PC test bench'. @NCIX - nice videos, man. Informative and clearly presented.
Guy Robot As far as I know they can't really. Plus it's not like they do some big investigation. The premium price your paying when you buy the graphics card is taking into account how many will be RMA'd and returned. It's cheaper for them to just send you a new one than to do an investigation on every RMA.
+Guy Robot unless you f it up by overclocking and try to rma, they'll notice but if you wanna rma it because you see it fing up just downclock it to stock and it's good to go.
am having a gigabyte amd radeon hd 7800 (twin fan not the tripple fan), i used gigabyte oc guru 2 to overclock, is it safe to use??? my reading is around 60°C (max usage) its default is gpu clock-> 975 & memory clock-> 1200 & min voltage -> 1.138 & temp-> 33°C i increased to gpu clock-> 1000 & memory clock-> 1210 & min voltage -> 1.148 & temp->56°C is there a way to change its stock cooling to a better cooling? which do u preferred reply plz :/
On my MSI GeForce GTX 660Ti Power Edition, do you think that those 'Twin Frozr' stock fans would be good enough for some pretty high OC'ing? Please note that I live in Singapore which is right next to the equator, it's humid, but pretty hot sometimes.
got it ;) thanks wow thats a nice temp for that voltage and speed.. im living in the equator my lowest was 27 celsius hehe just asking about ram overclocking... i have a kingston hyperx red at 1333mhz default... i overclocked it to 1600mhz... do i need to adjust the voltages if i wanna go to 1866mhz?
Anyone know what the safest speed to overclock a Gigbayte GTX 660 2GB OC is? I haven't been able to find any information on it, also I'm just using the stock coolers Gigabyte used on the card and have 3 fans in my PC chassis if that changes anything. thanks.
Hello, I accidentally broke the clip on my motherboard next to the PCIE slot. The notch that clips in when the card is in. Should i be worried? Will this damage anything?
just a little bit of trying to show how big a difference 4% can make, but you never know, sometimes with newer GPU's a 4% boost can really do a lot, especially when i went from 43fps on metro2033 to 58-62fps, but i dont know could be anything, maybe im just getting lucky.... i like your input on this and giving me another view; i am not being sarcastic, i always love to compare details and see where the road takes me for the next venture, your words has not gone unheard and i will listen to them
i have a serious doubt, i'm planning to OC my system.. i'm gonna have to change the cpu heat sink for my cpu that's for shure... but... my main doubts are... Will a 6850 Double Dissipated GPU (from XFX) card take an oc? will a Sentey ERP600SS take the overclocking? or do i have to get myself a "cheap" 80plus bronce for the work.. i'm running a FX4100 w/8gigs of ram and a gigabyte 970a UD3 motherboard..
at wich temperature should i stop?i have a ati raedon hd 3450,very poor but i want to see if there is any improvement,my default temperature was about 47 48 C,when i move the sliders a bit and started the benchmark my max temp was 65C
So you adjust the Core Clock carefully in increments, makes sense so far. But at which point do you set the Memory Clock? After you have reached the Core clock limit or do you set them simultaneously: increase Core clock, increase Memory clock -> test it -> repeat... ?
if i din't install this drivers ( afterburner ) what level my GPU run is that on HI - MID - or LOW level and if i install it how to set to HI level my GPU run always to the max all time.
I've got a Sapphire Radeon HD 7770 GHz OC Edition. I downloaded the Sapphire TRiXX software. If I am going to increase the GPU, and the memory clock, 1 steb by one, is there a change to burn or to damage it?
Hey Linus, I have a problem, I have downloaded MSI Afterburn but I am not able to change anything. I have been searching through the whole internet, but it does not work. It's not crashing or something like that. I cannot change the settings.
I have an HD 5670, 775 MHz Core Clock, 1000 MHz memory clock, amd catalyst program allows you to increase the Core Clock of 775MHz to 850MHz, which is the maximum I can get the core clock?
Hey thanks for that info bro. I did some reading and it seems like the HD 6850 is averaging in the low to mid 80's under some load. I think my case may be some of the issue though. My PSU is mounted on top and is drawing some airflow away from the GPU fan, because the PSU fan is much bigger. With only about 4inchs between the fans, i think they may be fighting for the airflow.
Well I'm not sure what settings you might run it as but I just made it cling over 42 FPS and I'm okay with that so yeah I guess I did make a bad buy.. Just before I buy something else, what are the good ones beside the GTX 600 series? Just curious.
Do you have the latest drivers installed? Or do you refer to screen tearing?? That happens when for example your fps is over 60fps when your monitor only supports 60fps. (It's completely normal) Put v-sync on and it's gone! Thank me later!
I have a 660 and a phenom x4, and I think the phenom is bottlenecking my 660, would overclocking the 660 improve my performance very much or should I overclock my cpu first?
its probably a good idea to save the oc settings to a profile and only use it during gaming or benchmarking. I reduce my gtx 970 back to stock for normal browsing and watching movies.
Thanks man, and I hear what you're saying as well... It's nice for a change, there is so much name calling, etc in these comments sometimes it stops a person from bothering. How you went from 43 fps to 58-62 with a graphics card overclock it's hard to figure, not impossible , but I'd guess there were other factors as well, change of 'in game' settings, measuring fps in a different part of the game... but hey it worked. I find with a radeon card changing the AI setting can have a huge effect..
HELP . I increased my MHz by 25 and my gpu started maki gig these really weird noises, which it never made before.. Any tips would be much apreciated. I don't know if the noise is bad or not
I bought an overclocked GTX 550 Ti a while ago and it has started crashing constantly, do you think it's by overheating? It goes up to 90 - 95 degrees celcius when playing games
Why cant I get higher core voltage. Max is 1350. I have tried the ELUA and the the -XCL in the shortcut path with the .dlls methods but still nothing higher. I have done it before with the same graphics card a long time ago. I have a MSI R7970 and a MSI 990FXA-GD80 MoBo.
@NCIXcom i have planned to buy an ASUS gtx 560 ti. it is tweaked to be 50% overclocked. if i increased its voltage to that level, would that damage the graphics card. (note: this graphics card has 2 fans)
i use a big fan... talking about the ones you wold use to cool your living room. got the 2 side "walls" open for cold air to go through. never went above 50 Celsius increased a Nvidia 530 GT 15% :D
looking for knowledge on overclock ingredients. I have a msi gt72s dominator pro G with a 8gig gtx980m. looking to go a little higher than the stock boost of 135mhz. can anyone help? don't know much about voltage and other specs that you adjust safely to fine tune the clock speeds. looking to run games like tomb raider at 60fps on ultra I'm at roughly 38-50fps now depending on what's going on in game. please help 😊
depends on the cooling solution. For reference cards, you dont have much of overclock headroom because they tend to run quite hot. Something like twin frozr or other aftermarket coolers havew a lot of headroom, you should hit 1ghz pretty easily
To allow it to generate polygons at a faster rate. Using Furmark (a benchmarking program for GPUs) my stock GTX 560 I got an average of 24 fps. By doing a very very very slight overclock I was able to push it up to a 30 fps average.
wait isnt like 1.44v a bit too dangerous? correct me if im wrong cuz i attempted to overclock my 3570 no 'k' to 4.3 ghz 42 on cpu ratio without adjusting the voltages and it blue screened on bootup.. turbo was on.. mobo is p8z77- vlx
Vintage Linus right here
Its fucking amazing to see how MSI afterburner literally did not change except for font in the last five years LOL
Ya upgrade it
We're talking about overclockers. They've got fixing things that ain't broken down to an art.
Controversy Owl I was stupid back then KAY?
"We're not going extreme on the cooling" huge ass cooler and pc fans on the graphics card. Classic Linus.

Excellent video sir!
Thanks man you make the best tutorials!
Can you use MSI Afterburner on non-MSI GPU's?
Yes sir
Yes I think ~LOL~
did i even watch the video?
have you really asked can MSI after burrner be used on MSI GPU's OMG
Adam Gloster
clearly says NON-msi GPU's.

should i use precision x to overclock my gtx 780 superclocked with acx? and how do i do it?
link to this version of afterburner? the newer version is unclear.
Using outdated software is not recommended. :)
IEatFruitCake You can change how Afterburner looks.

You can use any overclocking programs to modify your core voltage. One that hits my fancy is MSI Afterburner.
