love the name, and it looks pretty sharp too. that red and black paint job coupled with the sleak frame design really does make it look like a Vector eminating from a point and going on into infinity. :P
I would say the Dahon MU P8 would be a better bike to compare it to, same price, same components but using the Hydro-formed frame of the high end bikes. Actually you save $30 over the MU P8 for a much better bike. Original price on the Vector P8 was $1099, that would make sense but a lot of people do not want to spend $300 extra on the fancy frame.
Glad we could guide you into getting the right bike. The bike is only half of it, the other half is maintenance and support, tweaking, adjustments and tips. Unfortunately lots of consumers think buying from a discount online retailer is a good thing, they are forgetting about the other half of ownership. Support the shops that do the right thing and there will be some around in the future to fix your bike. Enjoy your Tern, glad you found a fine shop.
There are tons of differences. Really briefly, Bromptons are all high-end, steel, hand built bikes. Dahons consist of both low and high end models, and are constructed from a variety of materials. You can read a lot about this on our website. -Miles
I agree, this bike is currently the best buy in the folding bike industry. I believe Dahon goofed up when setting the pricing (In our favor) That frame makes it super stiff and ride like a dream, -Bert
Hi Nat, will be difficult to troubleshoot without being able to see it. It's possible there's a kink in the pump tube, or perhaps something blocking the pump shaft that has fallen inside the seat tube. Probably best if you can have your original dealer take a look at it. - Jack
Just got mine from NYCeWheels, super fast delivery! You guys rock!!! This bike exudes quality and rides smooth and fast! The frame is crazy awesome and rigid. Amazing value for $799!
Yes the service from the shop is really important, especially with a folding bike !! Got one in Florence from a really bad bike shop. Terrible experience. Found another, called Florence by Bike and what a difference. Really improved the bike. I bought a Tern, inspired by NYC Wheels, or NiceWheels as I tend to think of them.
Very nice. Actually test-ridden this bike as well as the new range of Dahon bikes at an exclusive launch event here. Really like how it rides, can see it being used recreationally as well as for commuting. Lack of a water bottle mount means you could visit that cafe for morning breakfast or a rest stop.. xD
They didn't really goof up the price planning. They used cheaper parts hence making the entire bike much more affordable. The Vector X10 has SRAM parts and superlight wheels. The Vector P8 has more hardy wheels and their clever Neos derailleur. :) Bike still rides wonderfully at a great price!
Hi Nycewheels! I was wondering if you knew the difference between the Dahon Vector P8 and Vector P9. I'm actually from Singapore, but the bike shops I contacted didn't seem to know about the Vector P8, and only has the P9 in stock. Getting my first bike, so I would really appreciate some opinions too. Thanks! - Alfie.
I like your bike reviews since I'm currently on the lookout for a nice foldy. Any plans on reviewing the Dahon Visc p 18? that'd be awesome! It's one of the nicer looking ones, pretty light and just in my budget...
I am so excited to see a video presentation of Dahon Vector P8! Makes me feel good to see the bike that I have in use. I have benefitted greatly from this purchase. Every day when I wakeup, I am always encouraged to ride. Thanks Nycewheels!
the air pump in my vector v8 is stuck, which means I cannot re-insert the air pump in the seat, it's just stuck....is this a defect or do you know any solution to this? thanks.
Hi Ryan, did you buy your bike from us? Contact us at the link and we'll be happy to help you out, manufacturing defects will certainly be covered under warranty:www.nycewheels.com/contactus.html - Jack
Hi Aldis, some of the lower end folding bikes in the 200 - 400 dollar range wouldn't hold up in an accident like you describe but these really are durable to enough to take a good hit. Particularly the Brompton folding bikes: www.nycewheels.com/brompton-folding-bike.html and the Dahon Formula S18: www.nycewheels.com/dahon-formula.html All the best - Jack
Hi Ricky, the curved frame shape may make the bike slightly more aerodynamic at higher speeds, but it would be a very subtle difference. I imagine frame was designed mostly for strength and aesthetics. - Jack
Hi An, yes you can certainly put a back rack on the Vector P8. This one would work great: www.nycewheels.com/tern-folding-bike-portagerackrear.html Best - Jack
Hi Nile, the Vector is very fast. It has a wide gear range so you'll be able easily go 25 - miles per hour without pedaling overly fast. Here's a link where you can get more info: www.nycewheels.com/dahon-folding-bike-vector-x10.html Best - Jack
Hi Carl, the Vector p8 weighs around 25 lbs which is average for folding bikes. For an extremely lightweight bike I would recommend the Tern Verge X10 which weighs just 21.3 lbs: www.nycewheels.com/tern-folding-bike-verge-x10.html Best - Jack
NYCeWheels Are the weight figures based on the manufacturer specs only or do you have the opportunity to actually weigh them on a scale in a ready to ride condition, aired up tires and reflectors, kickstands, etc. all installed? Weighed mine with a digital bathroom scale and came up with 27 lbs, a bit more than spec.
We usually go by the manufacturer, but if you contact us by phone, we may be able to weigh one for you on the spot: www.nycewheels.com/contactus.html Best - Jack
Glad you're liking it! Doe you use the Vector as a commuter, or just around town?

It looks very cool in the shop as well, most other bikes are either white, silver or black, the Vector P8 just pops out. -Bert
Glad our video reviews are helpful! Have you checked out the Tern Link D8? It's a very popular, affordable folding bike.
-Miles
We don't ship any bikes internationally, sorry we couldn't help you out! - jack
Where are you working since the shop closed ?
Exactly! The frame is absurdly great for the price.

Just got mine from NYCeWheels, super fast delivery! You guys rock!!! This bike exudes quality and rides smooth and fast! The frame is crazy awesome and rigid. Amazing value for $799!
The Vector P8 is now discontinued; is there an equivalent quality model that is currently offered?
Yes the service from the shop is really important, especially with a folding bike !!

Fast and good product

I'm a big fan of Dahon products. Unfortunately, our country don't have any stores for high-end folding bikes. I was planning to place an order. :)
the air pump in my vector v8 is stuck, which means I cannot re-insert the air pump in the seat, it's just stuck....is this a defect or do you know any solution to this? thanks.
Worked very well.
We're glad you liked it.
-Miles
this is one of the best cost/value folding bike that you can get. Not available in my country yet :(
im thinking of getting this bike my question is do you have to flip up the handle bar post?
true that
Thanks! -Peter

ok i apologize .....but for real i dont like front wheel angle :/ thanks Jack
will the chain and gears fall out of place?
Hi Ryan, the gears and chain are of a high quality on the Dahon Vector P8 and you should expect them to perform consistently well. - Jack
Is there a tangible difference in riding quality (such as wind resistance) from the curved frame shape?
Hi Ricky, the curved frame shape may make the bike slightly more aerodynamic at higher speeds, but it would be a very subtle difference. I imagine frame was designed mostly for strength and aesthetics. - Jack
Thank you for the information!
You're welcome Ricky. Let us know if you have more questions -Jack
Can we set a back rack on this bike ?
