    You don't have to spend hundreds to get a folding bike that you can use for an international cycle tour. Avoid broken and especially worn-out hinges.

    as a folding bike rider who lives on a boat, a corrosion nightmare, I would say that rust on the gear (chain, break cables, clamps, etc) is more of a problem than on the frame - or rather, is a problem sooner! seat tube slide getting stuck on a steel bike is a pain that doesn't happen on my aluminium frame, but the tube clamp is still steel and it seized and broke so I need a spanner to adjust seat height now.

      Properly working seat post clamp is super important. I’d like to take a closer look and compare some of the mechanisms between models. Perhaps I need a trip somewhere to look at bikes

    Fantastic video and very helpful! Also beginners can disassemble and reassemble parts in their spare time at home to get the knack before they're stuck who knows where

    For you Andy and any other user I have a tip about the stempost sliding down when you ride the bike. Since I welded my frame with the cracked seatpost my seatpost slided down more than I wanted to. Since then I have put another clamp on the seatpost and put a little rubber ring beneath it. In this way there is more friction for the seatpost to slide down. Since I attached this other clamp my seatpost haven't shifted anymore in about a year. Works perfectly.

    There is a lot of torque on the frame where the seatpost is inserted. This is because of the considerable length of the seatpost of any folding bike. This is why the frame can crack at the seatpost. I had that issue twice (with two folding bikes) and I welded these frames with a cheap fluxcore welder. And I even reinforced that part of the frame so it will not break again.

    Where's the video information on that little Front rack you've got? You always speak about everything but that.

    Love your resistance to referring to the saddle as a seat, no matter what, or is that a kiwi thing? Love the videos, planning a folding bike adventure now! Thanks

    I replaced my spoke wheels with mag wheels. Now I never have to worry about broken or loose spokes or a warped wheel.

    Hi! How do you deal with the rear panniers bag going all way back to dont hit your feet when you pedaling or without touching the wheel in folding bikes.
    Usually the rear rack for traditional bikes has an extra structure to avoid this touching of the pannier with the wheel. But the rear rack in the folding bikes doesn't have this additional tube.

    • @hobocyclist
      @hobocyclist  Рік тому +1

      Attaching the pannier further back on the rack helps stop it shifting forward. I don’t know how it works on big bikes, also the pannier we used is from a stroller/ pushchair so it’s not designed for a bike anyway. It’s possible to modify either the pannier or the luggage rack to make it fit. In the past I have even extended luggage rack using bits of wood or bamboo and tyre rubber tube for construction 🚲👍
