Lyrics
Stay with me awhile
Rise above the vile
Name my final rest
Poured into my chest
Into the orchard, I walk peering way past the gate
Wilted scenes for us who couldn't wait
Drained by the coldest caress
Stalking shadows ahead
Halo of death
All I see is departure
Mourner's lament but it's me who's the martyr
Pledge yourself to me
Never leave me be
Sweat breaks on my brow
Given time ends now
Into the orchard, I walk peering way past the gate
Wilted scenes for us who couldn't wait
Drained by the coldest caress
Stalking shadows ahead
Halo of death
All I see is departure
Mourner's lament but it's me who's the martyr
Spirit painted sin
Embers neath my skin
Veiled in pale embrace
Reached and touched my face
Into the orchard, I walk peering way past the gate
Wilted scenes for us who couldn't wait
Drained by the coldest caress
Stalking shadows ahead
Halo of death
All I see is departure
Mourner's lament but it's me who's the martyr
Opeth is one of the most beautiful things that has happened to me.
To this world. There's no band like Opeth. Their sound is just so fucking melancholic yet beautiful. I have never visited Scandinavia, but their songs makes feel like I am there. Fucking beautiful winter.

They wish, they dream and they hope. And right now, they are sitting here reading these words, and I'm writing this for you so you dont feel alone anymore.

Epitome of musicianship. Their music should be taught in schools.
You have to admit though that the lyrics only have a proximal relationship with meaning.
@@ffiftysixx what a straight legitimate way of putting it. I love opeth's lyrics and I sing them constantly; and yet I don't find myself deriving much meaning from them. Of at least not that often. They are great lyrics! Just not that moving.
@@enoughnonsenseplease3780 For me the lyrics is about a person about to commit suicide, going through mental turmoil and then finally does it, "wilted scenes for us who couldn't wait" talks about suicide. But it could also be about the stages leading up to death in general. Maybe it's not heartfelt to you, but these lyrics means the world to me even if some lines are mysterious.
@@thewildhealer541 Dirge for November is about suicide no doubt. Harvest is more about being separated from your beloved one, The Drapery Falls is the realization and DfN is the act of killing yourself after that acknowledgment

December 30th, 2020 - my first time diving into Opeth. I'll be 42 years old this October, been a metal fan for over 25 years...and I can honestly say that Opeth is the perfect band. Part of me feels like I wish I had known about them sooner, part of me understands that my appreciation for them may not have been apparent until my taste in metal/music in general had matured - all of me is thankful to be alive in a time when this band exists :)
I was exactly that old when Opeth came into my life. Not a single day has passed since then that I haven't listened to them. Now I am 52.
This band is great, I am not in that age range, I discovered them when 14 and properly got into them when 15, almost nineteen now.
If you're new to Opeth, you'll probably want some bands who do similar things but with different sounds:
Bask - III
Weedpecker - III
King Buffalo - Longing to be the Mountain
Elder - Reflections of a Floating World
Barren Earth - A Complex of Cages
Somali Yacht Club - The Sea
Psychedelic Porn Crumpets - High Visceral Part 2
Unprocessed - Artificial Void
I've decided to start peddling music today.
I have the same thoughts. I only discovered Opeth this month (October 2021). Until recently, I thought that only classic metal was the only metal worth listening to. I've been a metal fan for almost 40 years. I'll be 52 later this year. I have to admit that I like Opeth's melodic songs the best, like this one. It kind of reminds of Iron Maiden's Prodigal Son and makes me want to pull out and restring my Ovation guitar.
@@jamespwoods6911 that’s totally fair man 😎
When I listen to Harvest, it makes me very calm. It's really freaky though because the song is about someone in their dying moments wishing to be remembered once they're gone.
There is peace in death. I imagine not being alive prior to birth was of no inconvenience?
The way I see it, the person who sings is already dead and is on its own funeral
"Every man has two deaths, when they are buried in the ground and the last time someone speaks their name. In some ways, men can be immortal." - Ernest Hemingway
One death is too much. No one should be killed twice.
0:46 I love that transition
A piece of history that's forever imprinted on my soul.
Harvest❤🇵🇦
Love this song, has that haunting, poignant impression as though it's coming from another period - circa the early 1800s. Lot of their stuff is like that. It's remarkable how authentic in carrying a mood/sound impression from old times, as if Åkerfeld had actually been from that period.
This band shows that imagination can be a huge force for music and visuals
whoever is reading this, i hope you're having a great day, take care, stay safe and keep hydrated. if you're having a tough day, please take a break and treat yourself to something nice. i love you :)
Thank you! You too :)
I've been a hard rock/metal fan since the 80's. Weird that I just discovered this band a week ago. I had heard the name Opeth before but never heard the music. I recently purchased a new vehicle that has Sirius XM and of course my favorite channel is liquid metal. I think the song name was Wreath and I was who in the hell is this? Then I got on YT and found Ghosts of Perdition live at Red Rocks. Wow, blown the fuck away. Amazing talent, song writing, stage performance, etc. Discovering Opeth was pretty much like discovering VH in '81 and Pantera in 1990. Amazing.
I need to throw this album on repeat again.

I love the video of all those trees.
I want to build a home in those woods wherever it is
Tears roll down my face as i listen to this song
Not because I am sad or happy
I am flooded with images and memories
Of walks into the long lonely nights
Of thoughts as to where i belong and the dispute in my heart
Life has changed through the years
But this song and I go back, all the way back, as we witnessed it all together
The only thing that has remained constant
Absolutely felt this comment to my soul. I have the same feelings and whiteout with this song abs the entire album.

I love these type of opeth songs
Started listening to Opeth way back in high school, around 2011~2012, for literally a decade. I started with their 'metal' era with, beginning with "Ghost Reveries", which made me go down a rabbit hole and listen to everything they'd released. In this decade of constantly following up with their sound, they were there during my ups and downs, helping in so many aspects of my life, metal-wise.
I had to deal with personal issues, I felt lonely a bunch of times in those years, and even struggled with depression and suicidal thoughts. Opeth's music to me was an escape from reality, I could always go back and find comfort, I felt connected with so many of Mikael's lyrics, it made me rethink my life decisions and start to improve.
Thankfully I've found a way to deal with my inner problems and traced a well tough path for my life. I managed to overcome my depression, which I never felt ever again so far, managed to get my bachelor's degree, and started to take care of my body by eating healthy, exercise and and stopping using drugs. And all and all never abandoned listening to their music. It helped me a lot. I mean it.
Got me an Opeth tattoo on my arm, I dunno, I am grateful for knowing this band, thankful for all the good times I had with them, and plus, ITS FUCKING AWESOME
In ten years, I have not been able to attend an Opeth concert, because they rarely played in my hometown, Sao Paulo, Brazil. And this was on my bucket list, for years I've been wanting to see them live for the first time.
But the universe granted me my wish, next year, on February 8th, 2023, Opeth will play a gig in Sao Paulo and guess what, I got the tickets!!!! I am so happy that I will watch my favorite band for the very first time!!!! I feel so good
Thank you, Opeth
Did you go? And if so, how was it? That's really great that they've helped you so much in your life. I just started listening to their music a couple of weeks ago and I'm going through things myself and listening to them has helped me to feel a lot better.
@@CrescentCrystalRising Seeing them live for the very first time was a total blast, I was in tears dude, not gonna lie hahah. I managed to get into the front row, so I could see Mikael right in front of me at the stage, it was fantastic
