I bought this album 15 years ago, alongside Blackwater Park on a suggestion from a friend as I was getting into metal. I could not have been any more fortunate at the time than to find this band. I cried and laughed to this album for no particular reason, the sound took the drivers seat, and I was just strung along with the absolute beauty of the compositions. Thanks, Opeth.
this song kidnaps my soul away from my body and into an infinite space where nothing but emotion exist. No logic, No thinking, Just feeling. First time i listened to this song was 2010, never had a device since then where it wasn't downloaded. This isn't a song, It's a drug. Everything is so perfectly crafted, The instruments clash with each other with so much unison and coordination, and the voice of Mikael Åkerfeldt is so soothing and powerful at the same time, i can feel the words he is saying, and they're only heightened by the angelic melancholy of this beautiful symphony. It is a shame. This song, it's quality. It feels like serious injustice that only a few millions have heard this song, It should be held at the same regard that genius musicians are. I will never stop listening to this song, it has captured my heart, and i feel it will only release it after another masterpiece like this comes out. So far, none have made my ears tear up like this song has. Thank You Opeth, This song may not be popular, but know that the people that listen to it, have nothing less than love and appreciation for this masterpiece.

Welp, I only recaptured 50% of those feelings. This is probably my 100th re-listen to this song by this point, literally. At least, on this listen, I was able to pay attention to the choice of instruments a little more. I paid attention to the song structure a little more, noting that there are two guitar soloes, and that neither is technically difficult but is extremely moving and classy nonetheless. And that the violins/double bass and the "choir" in the background at certain parts in this song tremendously add to its already classy, moving vibe. Musically, it seems the Swedes and Brits can do no wrong. Akerfeldt is a genius and Steven Wilson is too. ❤from the USA.

It just makes me truly happy to see how many views this under appreciated masterpiece has gotten.. maybe there is hope for humanity! Anyone who can recognize the wonder and beauty in this is someone I consider my friend. We are a fortunate group guys and gals. 😢
That part only clarifies this is the very Opeth that made Still Life or Blackwater Park you know IMHO - From a shitless slave region of humanism being suffered under hoon-tribe-originated-parasitism and kiki'she' collectivism which is known as the name 'Korea', whose dwellers always steals and begs from Japan's original history which clearly inherited sincere humanity in Ancient Cudara more than its 'original' dwellers in hometown.
If this does not make you feel something, you should seek attention. These are masters in which we all are blessed to witness their creations. What a ridiculously solidly unique group. Damn they are awesome. Right??!!??!
Opeth is such a good band they both inspire and discourage me simultaneously. Its not that I feel that they're that much better than me, as much as that I don't know that I could consistently put out such masterful works as they do. Every element is perfect. No note feels wrong, even when it's especially dissonant. In fact, the dissonance always resolves leaving you feeling more at peace with the tension..
I grew up with opeth because my mom would listen to it 24/7 and she still does she has mercy and everything, the same with the Beatles and more And some of my favorite parts in the song is: 2:303:204:02
I remember Mikael saying that Camel was one if his biggest influences. You can clearly hear it in this song - the part between 5:00 and 5:50 for example
That’s a great idea You will not regret about it, that’s hard, but so much pleasure My dad start to playing bass 3 years ago, he is 46 now We are jamming together sometimes You will do it
Amazing song. The song that introduced me to Opeth way back in 2003. Saw them in Sydney in 2004 and only knew the Damnation and Deliverance albums, totally blew me away. Have seen them 3 more times since, once from side stage and met Mendez, just a brilliant band.
Dude all I listen to is rock how have I not ever heard of these guys. It’s giving me tool and a perfect circle vibes but in a different way and I love it.
@@thewildhealer541 I agree with you both! I have talked about my ideas about this quite a bit and I think that the reason that they are so similiar is that both Tool and Opeth are incredibly versatile in their arrangements, but they both have 100% nailed their heavy sound and the transitions from that into the lighter parts, and back. They sound like two branches in opposite directions, but formed the same pattern. So 2 completely different versions of the same amazing musical accomplishment. That's the best way I can describe it. :)
@@h4xo7 Yeah, that I can agree with. They are both masters at arrangements, going from heavy to light parts. But sound wise, completely different. I had a hard time getting into Tool, except for a few songs like Vicarious, The Pot etc.. the easy listening stuff. Now I believe Lateralus to be one of the best albums of all time when I became more patient (No pun intend) with listening to them. But I was always a fan of Opeth since I was a kid honestly. I don't hear any Opeth in Tool, and vice versa. Except for arrangements as you say. They never remind me of each other when I listen to them.
I still recall vividly sitting in front of my TV when I first saw the video for this song. It was when Headbanger's Ball was still on the air, possibly in its second iteration on MTV. I watched in awe. I'd never heard music like this before. I didn't know music like this was possible, especially coming from what I knew was a metal band, which was the only thing I knew about Opeth at that time. Mike is a true musical savant. Singular in every way. And Steven Wilson deserves a ton of credit for pushing Opeth over the hump from the "amazing" category to the "unprecedented genius" category. No one does beautiful melancholy like Opeth.
Before Opeth I could not listen growling metal one bit. This kind of using of perfect harmonies with mixture of different kinds of emotions in music really caught me. And yes this album and this song was crucial for me to getting used to the band's style and then moving on to Blackwater park and Ghost reveries which became even a bigger favorite for me than this album. What a band, none other is good at this level of progressive metal which is not just bout rhytm but really getting the amount of depth to a one song.

3:48 is a reminder that this is an Opeth song
Hell yezz
clear from the start
na bro, it's clear from the very start.
That part only clarifies this is the very Opeth that made Still Life or Blackwater Park you know IMHO
- From a shitless slave region of humanism being suffered under hoon-tribe-originated-parasitism and kiki'she' collectivism which is known as the name 'Korea', whose dwellers always steals and begs from Japan's original history which clearly inherited sincere humanity in Ancient Cudara more than its 'original' dwellers in hometown.
sorta thought mikael's vocals gave it away
If this does not make you feel something, you should seek attention. These are masters in which we all are blessed to witness their creations. What a ridiculously solidly unique group. Damn they are awesome. Right??!!??!
Right!!!🎶🔥🎶
Opeth is such a good band they both inspire and discourage me simultaneously. Its not that I feel that they're that much better than me, as much as that I don't know that I could consistently put out such masterful works as they do. Every element is perfect. No note feels wrong, even when it's especially dissonant. In fact, the dissonance always resolves leaving you feeling more at peace with the tension..
Because of this right here is why Opeth is one of my favorite bands
The thing I like about Opeth is that it's one of those bands that really expands your consciousness at least for me it does
So many years have passed since I heard this song and it still makes me cry. 👌
One of the best bands in this century. I do miss the original group, they had such a vibe.
3:39 damn a heck of an Opeth moment this is
I woke up at 3am to a full moon and this song in my head last night. Havent' listened in 10+ years. Spooky
Чудова пісня і група
One of Opeth's best songs
18 years of this masterpiece! Opeth rules!
This song is so creepy, is strange to find songs that are truly haunted, speaking so directly and still ambiguously about a ghost, a masterpiece
I grew up with opeth because my mom would listen to it 24/7 and she still does she has mercy and everything, the same with the Beatles and more
And some of my favorite parts in the song is:
2:30 3:20 4:02
Opeth jeden z największych zespołów ostatnich kilkunastu lat, this band is like air for live
I remember Mikael saying that Camel was one if his biggest influences. You can clearly hear it in this song - the part between 5:00 and 5:50 for example
Gorgeous. This, and Elysian Woes. And Faith in Others. My staple songs. 💙
This album inspired me to start playing acoustic guitar to myself at 37
That’s a great idea
You will not regret about it, that’s hard, but so much pleasure
My dad start to playing bass 3 years ago, he is 46 now
We are jamming together sometimes
You will do it
Nice 👍 ... how’s it going ?
@@stevenslate8065 wow! Thats great! Wish you all the best!
@@kschmeed slowly :)
@@zoranpeternelj1160 Awesome man, keep up the good work.
Why is it that heavy/death metal bands come up with the most amazing, soul searching songs ever? This song blends perfectly with whiskey.
It's impossible to call this song objectively bad. A true Masterpiece!
We drove for two hours across Finland to watch them play this....I gotta say it was pretty cool!
Two hours is child’s play to see such a legendary band. You are fortunate.
Never heard it. Nice band and good melody.
It’s giving me tool and a perfect circle vibes but in a different way and I love it.
so true, i learned them today and i got tool vibes
@@giorgosntomaris3371 As a massive tool fan, I disagree. I always thought Opeth had their completely unique sound.
This is literally the most complete, versatile, and simply perfect song. Yes!!! 🤘❤❤❤
Dieses Lied ist wunderschön, jedes Mal, wenn ich es höre, fühle ich mich wie im Himmel.🇵🇦🇵🇦✈️💙
Coisa linda!
I'm listening to this song for the first time and at the same time I don't regret having met this group
Oba _ well said!
Have you heard Jinjer - Pisces yet?

This song is touching my heart already 18 years. There is magic strings
When i think about Opeth i always return to this album.
