Hello Alan, They are nice machines... I looked at them a while back, as you said with the small footprint so very good in a small workshop. Take care. Paul,,
Hi Paul. Yes, I've always liked them but some people don't, found a few negative reviews when I was doing my research. It's going to be a fun project 🙂 Cheers, Alan.
I have one of these. If you need parts to copy let me know. The blade guids are a tufnel type material. A popular mod was to repace these with bearings for better blade tracking It came with an alternative puley for a second speed..
Thanks very much. I think I should be ok, there are plenty of details on these online. I did wonder about replacing the guides with the 3 bearing type. I didn't know about the alternative pulley though. Cheers, Alan.
Good pick up Alan. All fixable. I would just use the existing belt if it is not stretched or worn. My band saw has a similar throat size, but is much larger and heavier. Yours is nice and compact. Very handy units. Cheers Rob
Hi Rob. A real bargain, they don't come along that often these days. The existing belt would probably be ok but it has a hard inflexible feel to it. These saws were made in the late 1970s early 1980s so the belt could be 40 years old. A new belt is about £10 so given how little I paid for the saw a new belt isn't really an extravagance. Cheers, Alan.
That's a bargain, they are great little saws. The saw blades are readily available, I usually get mine from ebay, the size is 56 1/2 inch by either 1/4" or 3/8" and they come in various TPI.
Hi Alan this is de ja vue for me, ive got the tee shirt, mine was in a bit of a state too, did a video a while back now., i found mine to be a bit slow on cutting speed, nothing to do with the motor or anything, thats just how it is, will be interesting to see if yours is the same. 👍👍
Hi Kev. I will go and have a look at that video of yours. Thanks to myfordboy I now know that they originally came with two drive pulleys, a high speed & a low speed. However, I've never seen one with the high speed pulley fitted. I want mine for cutting wood so the higher speed would be better. Fortunately myfordboy has one of the high speed pulleys and says if he can find it he will send it to me. If that all pans out I will do a video showing the pulley fitting and in use. Cheers, Alan.
Hi Kev. Ignore what I said previously. Apparently Burgess made another very similar Bandsaw around the same time called the BK2. This was a two speed saw. It should be possible to fit the high speed wheel to the BBS-20 but you would also have to change the motor drive pulley. Cheers, Alan.
Lovely looking bandsaw. Nice start to an interesting series. 👏👏👍😀Andrew
Thanks Andrew. There will probably be quite a few videos, not quite sure where I am going with it yet! Cheers, Alan.
Nice find Alan, I have an 80's Delta about the same size amazing how similar the design and materials are.
Brian
Thanks Brian. Rare these days to get such a bargain. Cheers, Alan.
