I been gigging professionally for some time. Until tonights gig, I never thought it would make a difference to speak and interact with the audience. Tonight, I spoke to my audience between songs and before sets. I made sure to make eye contact with individuals and performed with stage presence. I just wanted to see if their was actually a difference. My conclusion....Hell yeah it makes a difference! I got so many more tips than usual, as well as extra base pay, AND got booked again for another date with paid booking fee. Very good advice to follow and practice. Sometimes I didn't know what to say so I said to the audience, "I can't think of anything to say but I need to occupy you while I decide what to play next" LoL. Also I accepted every request even though I didn't get around to a couple. One lady caught on to me after she requested a song I didn't want to do. She said, "You're just saying yes aren't you? You're not going to play it". ...well it was Selena, for crying out loud. Then someone asked for Hotel California, so I renditioned a Metal version of it that sounded pretty sick and even got tips from it.
hey I don't know if anyone will see this but I have a concert today from school and I will be singing at least in front of 300 people maybe. really needed this
Awesome advice. I've been practicing a set list of original acoustic guitar songs at home that I've written during the last 30 years. If I ever get it together and perform live I'll re-watch this video beforehand!
