I learned to play in the 80s as a teenager, and I'm having to unlearn what I learned back then. I've watched countless tennis tutorial videos over the years about the modern game, but the instructions are somewhat vague.
Tennis Doctor's series of instructional videos are the best IMHO. I really enjoy how the technique is explained. I'm not sure why these videos haven't come across my screen sooner. Subscribed!!

I have been playing tennis for 15 years, I am a fan of improving my technique to enjoy it at another level and this channel is helping me a lot. What a discovery that topspin comes from the shoulder. Thank you for being as you are

You have this “tough love” type of tone when explaining the steps and I really appreciate it. Feels like I’m being pushed to be great by a pro. Excellent video.

Just found you and so glad i did. Modern advice with clarity and no USA style waffle. Ive started playing at 55 yrs and quickly realised that most coaches cant teach adults well. Im told to repeat repeat hit hit byt if technique is wrong you just absorb bad habits. Thanks again, will check the course

Congratulations. Brilliant explanation, accurate and well explained. Most are able to get the point but only few are are really able to trasmit the teaching....

Found your excellent channel a few weeks ago, and loving it. This video - discussing topspin from the shoulder - is key, along with relaxed wrist and arm.

Loved that expression " why would you send your arm on a lone mission??" explaining right away on what is one of the common mistakes of not hitting the right forehand. That was excellent humour in coaching !! Okay back to watching your video 🙂

Thank you for your advice. Very helpful for me: The initial function of the shoulder joint driving the loose arm instead of the hand to get more topspin. And it's much easier not to tense up in your hand.

Vincent, thanks so much for this. This is the first time I have heard about rotating the shoulder. Great tip which I will definitely try (as of now, I'm rotating/rolling the arm with a fairly quiet wrist). Also will try it on my one-handed backhand.

Vincent is right! Not one tennis instructor, and I've worked with many, ever effectively taught any skills or technique. I used to think that perhaps it was advantageous to them that their students remained mediocre.

There is potential in this video and I admire your guts to go online as young coach and try to grow youtube channel.
Few things in this video are incorrect or explained wrong. There is nothing wrong with having bent arm on the forehand, look at Djokovic's, it's probably most underrated shot in tennis. There is many other pros that hit with bent arm.
Chest should be pointing towards left at the end of the swing(right handed players), as this will mean that you rotated your torso and your shoulders, which is a good thing. What you tried to explain is opening too early before the point of contact and dragging the ball wide cross court, which is a common thing with some club players. Laser analogy is not great.
Wrist should not be loose through the whole motion. This can be very bad advice for less advanced players as they will not have any control with loose wrist. There needs to be wrist control. Wrist is extended at the point of contact. Advanced players release the wrist right after and use it as the last part of kinetic chain for added power and racket head speed. If the ball is fast wrist needs to be stable so you won't see this wrist release on every shot. It's shot depended. You also were contradicting yourself when explaining the wrist function in forehand stroke. Right use of wrist will add power and spin to the shot, assuming that other parts of kinetic chain are in sync. All the best!

I can't agree more.....wrist action is far more important in today's game.....the pronation from the shoulder is an interesting myth !

It’s hard to keep that arm loose while swinging hard. I’ve had to contend with that is other racquet sports. You end up muscling the racquet and it kills racquet-head speed. There must be a drill to build up that kind of coordination in the arm, wrist, and hand.

there is another guy who says the same thing as you go first with the Body and the racket will follow
automatically i think this was the main reason for my weak topspin forehand i always have tried to meet the Ball first in front and then the body follows and this does not work for topspin shots the guy is Ian Westermann from essential tennis
one Questions are kids do this automatically for its natural to turn the body
    kind regards josef

if your first way didnt work you did something wrong because it works perfect ; theres more then one way to hit topspin and your old way was one of them body follows and support the finish

Best tip for all of you, fire your tennis coach and buy his videos, then you will become Best players. 🤣🤣🤣 Simple as that. There is no other way in tennis, you need a coach who can correct yours bad movements, if he doesnt, then fire him.
