His death broke me, haven't been able to continue watching the show. After Catherine accepted he died, her walking around in his clothes and her crying. I literally can't watch her process her grief without crying, their love was the best part of the show.
Right? It was so inspiring to see two people who were, conceptually, incompatible as could be and yet underneath very compatible. As they used shovels on one another and revealed their true colors, they fell in love? What a story. Does that even ever happen in marriage, let alone arranged marriages? (arranged marriages have a lower divorce rate, so clearly we are approaching it all wrong).
This scene (episode as well) was beautifully done by Elle it really showed her range in acting. I was quite surprised with how it ended. BUT I loved how it did so; so curious to know what will happen for Catherine in hopes of season 4. Huzzah to an amazing cast in bringing so much to the table for season 3! 🥂👸🏼🎉

You know I wanted to blame so many people for what happened to Peter: Catherine for bringing up Sweden, Velementov for not going to see Vinodel and realizing he wasn’t going to die and then he wouldn’t have agreed to take Peter to Sweden to have his last battle, Peter’s dad for being a miserable SOB and haunting his memories, and of course Hugo for worming his way into Peter’s head to retake Sweden But at the end of the day it all comes back to Peter and his obsession with legacy He was more than enough for Paul and Catherine; I just wish he would have realized that before he got on the ice 😭
I think this is maybe one of the best directions the show could have gone. Yes, it was heartbreaking but we know and it was even said by the marriage witch woman that both of them are really strong personalities and will one day end up ruining each other. Peter's obsession with his legacy would have come up one way or the other. Also we forget that the story is about Catherine's great love, not for Peter but for Russia. Just my two cents.
Definitely different from what actually happened (Peter's true death was FAR more gruesome, where one of Catherine's lovers and his brothers marched into Peter's room at the dead of night and essentially beat him to death).
Actually there isn't any record of how Peter died..but there have always been rumours and assumptions throughout history to suggest his death was suspicious. Also Peter the Great eat was his grandfather and not his father...etc. This show is Brilliant..let's not let the truth, get in the way of a good story..🤫🙂
I’m sorry but the casual turn around and then the even more casual “oh shit” was gold. Goddamn that was hilarious, but his death is very sad at the same time. So in character for the scene to be sad, yet humorous.
Noo this is so sad I got to the end of this scene and checked to see if he actually died😭 their romance was the best part of the show, I might not finish the series now😩
It is really emotional but Elle's performance is really good on the last 3 episodes. There's also a scene where Katya performs a play mocking Catherine and she didn't do anything about it
The only thing that I hate is that they show the horse sinking like a rock as soon as the ice broke. That's not how it works. They would have floated/swam for at least a few minutes. It could have been even more tragic if he was stuck and coul have said something. I really hated his character at the beginning but by the third season I really became fond of him.

at first this seemed shocking but he is choosing to go die as she tries to save him... the alternative of this silly death is one that is much more gruesome
"well actually" what was he about to say? Was he finally realized it's a mistake just after a few seconds? And why can't he wait until the winter's over? Why must he pass that river did he not know it's a snow not a cement? 😭
I wonder if the fact that they chose to have him drowned was a reference to the Bible and him not being saved was the way they said that Catherine was chosen by god especially with what’s his face being buried alive

Because he died shortly after he was overthrown, that’s the historical event. They didn’t love each other it was a political marriage.
