Those with thumbs down yall dont know music
I have no more superlatives. I am also hooked on this treasured performance
JOAN OSBOURNE SINGS THIS SONG THE BEST WHAT A GREAT VOICE
Greatest song on youtube.
❤❤❤❤❤
when she breaks into her "free-style" about the 3 minute mark, the band leads her into that final gut-wrenching tug at a broken heart. awesome finale and I think they all know--they nailed it. !!!!!
Yep.
AMERICAN IDOL WHO DO YOU REALLY THINK WOULD WIN IF YOU HAD TO BET EVERYTHING ON THAT PARTICULAR VERSION OR SINGING YEP I THOUGHT SO THATS WHY IT'S CALLED R. AND B SOUL MUSIC FROM THE SOUL MOST PEOPLE SAYING THEY LIKE THIS VERSION WASN'T EVEN ALIVE TO HEAR THE ORIGINAL SONG DAMM WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE WHITE VS BLACK THING JIMMY IS CLEARLY A BETTER SINGER I GUESS WHO EVER THE ARTIST WAS EVEN DAVID WOULD'VE HAVE LOST !!!!!!!!]!!!!!
@@johnathanbrown5244 You make me laugh, you were the one that brought race into this.
@@johnathanbrown5244 The Jimmy Ruffin version is on you tube - I did not prefer it to this version.
wish I could give you more than one thumbs up
The song, the arrangement, the musicians, the back-up singers and, especially, Joan's magnificent voice, EVERYTHING in this video IS PERFECT. Making this even more amazing, is that this song is so very hard to sing.
I made almost the same comment myself plus Joan's unique vocal tone .. magnificent !!
This may be the finest performance of any kind that I have seen here on YT........Real Soul !
On rare occasions a band and singer knock it out of the park...this was one of the occasions.
Live performance doesn't get any better than this
i'm not sure if joan or any of the musicians on stage realized the moment of musical magic they had just created. everyone on stage was spot on, making the emotions of joan , shine through. music has the power to move people and this powerful rendition of a classic, certainly rose to the occassion. BRAVO
+up2my you said it best.
+tommy2chips Agreed. Every school child (& every adult) should be shown Standing in the Shadows of Motown to understand the majesty and wonder of the music made by our great American artists. If this stuff doesn't move you go pick out a burial plot 'cause you have passed away.
Agreed this is a performance under rated by all but folk like us that were there way back when Jimmy Ruffin did this song in 65. This lady is pretty, soulful and the band, my gosh! I cannot say enough they are absolutely magnificent!! This is a musical work of art, truly a tribute yet unrealized to the man that did this song to begin with!!
She might have. It's been said that after the song, the energy, etc., she's said to have asked "What the hell just happened?"
up2my, ya nailed it. I absolutely LOVE this song. Tell Me, Tell Me, Tell Me... It's always about the Love!
Words can't touch this one !!
I always appreciate when someone just sings the song, and doesn’t over sing it. It’s good enough the way it is, just put your voice on it. Joan did that here.
She's very special and this version is just perfect!
Next to the Original version this could have been a single by her and the Funk Brothers. Soulful and Perfect in every way. Good going Joan!
I agree
I am no fan of cover songs, but damn, damn. this women did the song proud. amazing. passionate. soulful. right from the heart and slam into your soul. I have tears in my eyes every time I see and listen to this, and anyone who knows about music will understand what I am expressing to you.
+Faeden well expressed. couldn't agree more. This was feeling & soul
+Faeden Right beside you, Faeden. Puts a lump in my throat every damn time.
Everyone on that stage knows their musical potatoes through and through; and their pleasure in queueing up that number again is clear. As much as I enjoyed Jimmy Ruffin's original cover, Joan absolutely killed it. Her version is, for me, the ace and deuce of the "Brokenhearted" canon.
+Faeden some songs are just beautiful words and melody but it's the artist , that puts the whipped cream and cherry on top. :-) joan seems to bare her soul from the 3 minute mark on and the result is pure raw emotion. bravo
One shouldn't hate a beautiful voice God gave her a gift.very talented, with that tear in her voice.awsome arrangements.to me she's a exciting to hear.dont be a hater.unless your better, doubt it.god bless joan.keep it going.one monkey don't stop the show.Willie, love ya!!!!!!!
That's how I feel about the original . Jimmy Ruffin brings tears to my eyes !
One of the best written songs ever.
Truly is one of the best written songs ever
I almost cry every time I hear it
THIS LADY CAN SING THIS SONG BABES. I'M A MOTOWN FAN BUT DAMN.
Funk Brothers "THE" Motown sound magicians their sound is fantastic. Ms. Osborne has the perfect raspy voice that fits this sond perfectly!
Found this early on in lockdown. Return to it all the time and think it's my all time favourite. As well as Joan's phenomenal performance, the Funk Brothers are equally phenomenal. Not sure how it took me so long to find this. Absolutely brilliant!
Hello!!! How are you doing today, please pardon me for intruding into your privacy but I just wanted to know if you’re a fan ? Have a great day…Stay Safe!
The look on her face as she walks to the mic is priceless. It is as if she just knows that she's gonna just kill it.
Wow This girl nailed it.
Great job.
