Nice job. I like the GG1s on the lower level. I read they usually ran a Santa Fe counterclockwise on the outside loop, and a 675 with 5 or 6 passenger cars clockwise on the next loop. There must have been a great deal of noise in the showroom when the layout was turned on.
ive been watching youtube videos of lionel layouts that resembeled the 1950's and 1960's dealer displays, and i have to say this one is not only the largest but the best on youtube! great job can't wait to see the finish layout!
Lionel certainly didn't settle for 'good enough' when they thought up this masterpiece- They didn't even settle for 'perfect'- they decided on "make it too much to take in- pack it full of all that makes a layout dazzle before your eyes, but not crowded- and you can't see it all from any one side". It's a shame, such a true shame they didn't save the original. But here you are, making dreams come true. I've never seen such sheer eye candy. It is truly done in the style of a true early postwar layout, and everything about it seems to be better than you could even picture yourself building. Regardless of how monumental that classic layout was, it was no small feat over 60 years ago, and doing it again is even harder. Yet- yet still, in bare plywood, with tracks arranged, accessories stationed, and highballing freights, crack limiteds, diesels, steamers, and electrics, racing laps about this massive piece of inginuety, I think it's fair to say that you have achieved the impossible- this has to be the second best to actually standing in the 1949 showroom that I've ever seen, right in the making!!!!
If I saw this in 1959 it would be like a kid today seeing .....’hmmm , I don’t think there is anything that would really impress kids anymore . Sad . Beautiful layout !
I have two videos about Lionel's past and present showroom layouts at my mom's house, and one DVD about their showroom layout at their present location. I bet it's still in Mississippi, but I have to wonder: where is it now? Is the layout in another building or location, or is it still in the Jackson, MS area?

That is such a awesome job on your layout ,I can't wait to see it completed ...
i think this is 1950 due to the F7 diesel shown>>>>the nose and headlight gave it away>>>>what an outstanding lay out>>>>
Any chance you can post an updated video with what you've accomplished since this first video....dying to see it.
Beautiful !!!! Sure would like to see this someday!!
I’ve seen the original! More than once!

If I saw this in 1959 it would be like a kid today seeing .....’hmmm , I don’t think there is anything that would really impress kids anymore . Sad .
