If I'd seen this layout when I was back in the early 50's I would have thought I had died and gone to Lionel heaven. Even so, now it's still pretty damned impressive. Great looking.
Really like the old school look. I have a American Flyer freight station that I rescued from a antique store... Beat all up and missing things. Thanks to Ebay was able to make look like new. Nice to see a layout still using tubular track...
Love it! So happy to know the 1949 Lionel Showroom Layout made a comeback. You need to get in touch with my friend Tom McComas and his team at TM Books and Video to do a review and film about your layout. They did do a film back in 1994 with the Jackson Modelers in Mississippi about their replica of the same layout, but was torn down just after filming. Very beautiful layout and my dream layout would definitely incorporate the 49 showroom layout track design with my dream model railroad.
My dad still has his Lionel from the 60's in its original box. Needs work. I use to play with it until it wore out when I was a kid. I have an HO 4x8 that is not up at the moment. I had it up at mom and dad's until I got my ham radio license and got put on the very back burner. I would love to rebuild it. Didn't have much at all. Didn't really get started. Nice layout anyway.
I got a laugh out of the intro. I maintain the 1949 show room recreation at the Wisconsin Auto Museum, and I like seeing others' recreations of it as well. You've done some nice work there. The buildings look pretty good. I've been volunteering at the museum for about 5 months now and I've restored to operation all the antique locomotives (None of which worked when I started. K-Line and RMT brand locos just don't cut it with me) and have been making recreations of the original buildings too, out of the same materials as the originals. Lionel's Model Railroading book published through Bantam is a huge help there.
I didn't even know recreations exist. I was shocked that this guy even made one. I remember one in MS back in the mid-90s but that was torn down. I visited the Wisconsin Auto Museum and it seems like the track plan is pretty accurate but the accessories and items are all modern era. Who's idea was to build that at the Wisconsin Auto Museum??
@@goldenmanuever1176 The rolling stock is no longer modern era. I've been with the museum for two years now and one of the first things I did was rebuild all the old locomotives, some of which I was told would "Never run again" (HA!) and we are now running all postwar rolling stock, or nearly all, as when an old engine is out for service the modern junk, ah, I man, locos, are temporary replacements. Recently I got the prewar stop station at one end rewired and working, we got a UP 2023 ALCO pulling three sheet metal cars that makes a brief stop at that station now. The platforms are modern production but have been repainted into their postwar colors with postwar style signs on the fences now. The idea was from John Hetzel of John's Hobbies on Main Street in Hartford, he and a crew of volunteers built the layout back in 2004. Since the Wisconsin Auto Museum also has Soo Line 1003, a 1913 Mikado type steam locomotive, and the founder was a Lionel fan, it made sense at the time. I only wish our current curator would at least advertise the layout. I have a couple clips on my page here, but even since I took those, much has changed. The black rubber roads are nearly gone, replaced by the khaki color roads, signals are in their correct locations, and more replica paper and wood buildings have been added.
I had the station with the green roof. What I never see is the red & white station with the push button on top announcing Pittsburgh, Altoona & Allentown.
When you said "Lionel 1949 Showroom Layout", I thought that's what I was going to see. This was clearly _not_ shot in 1949. The clothes are far to contemporary. Nice layout though.
There is definitely video. Just look up "Lionel's Showroom Layout" and there are two videos put out by Classic Toy Trains of the original and earlier layouts.
Why not fill that yard with as many cars as possible, and see how many locomotives it takes it put the entire train together and get it up to speed on the layout?
THE MUSIC HAS NOT A THING TO DO WITH THE VIDEO?? I WAS THE ONE THAT DID A LIONEL CHRISTMAS AND WAS THE DRUMMER WITH SINATRA AND SAMMY DAVIS.SO WHEN IT COMES TO MUSIC I KNOW IT ALL. YOU CAN KILL A VIDO IF YOU HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT MUSIC.....WE ARE TALKING ABOUT LIONEL TRAINS NOW SOME DESERT SCENE WITH DANCING GIRLS????/.....I WOULD SAY NO TALENT HERE
Mr. Cowen would be pleased to know that kids decades ago now men continue to enjoy the long lived Lionel products, and they are enjoyed as such.
Luke, feel the power of Magna-Traction.
IMPRESSIVE layout & collection! 🙂

@@modelrailpreservation you guys open now?
One of the earliest forms of "remote control cool."
Beautiful layout! Great work! The music is depressing, though. Some Big Band would have been swell.
A very nice replica of the '49 showroom layout, if I do say so myself.
The force is definitely strong with this one ;)
Impressive and well done!
what an empire, so fun, thanks for sharing

A nice layout, terrible music for showing trains! Having seen the actual Lionel layout numerous times as. A youngster, this just iosnt it.
Lou La Salle I second the motion.
That’s quite an amazing collection! Where is it located? Love to visit…
Excellent repro of the "later showroom layout". No lower level or cantenary system? No GG1's?
Didn't care for the music. Otherwise good video
I'd love to get the chance you see what I could do, shooting and editing a video of this layout.

Replica.
The original of course, no longer exists, and there is very little in the way of photographs documenting it, no idea if there’s video.
There is definitely video. Just look up "Lionel's Showroom Layout" and there are two videos put out by Classic Toy Trains of the original and earlier layouts.
Love it!
flipping Awsome
It looks pretty accurate
missing some details, but yes pretty accurate. Wish I could see it.
Cool video but the music does not match at all
Could've done without the music with this video, A distraction and a disrupter !!!
good vid
You are aware that Lionel invented the slot car in 1912
I have to ask, how many trains are in that room?
Did this replica of the 49’ showroom layout have that one of a kind white NW2 in the yard or a replica of it?
I don't think so. I know the one in the Mississippi mall back in the early 90's did.
I'm looking for my old Lionel cars.Thats a million dollars worth of trains
a blast
Why not fill that yard with as many cars as possible, and see how many locomotives it takes it put the entire train together and get it up to speed on the layout?
Not a fan of this Muzak! Click bait
Is this a private layout
Yes,
It was built by Brian Miller of TucsonAz.
Is it a completely accurate recreation of the original?
Sidney Flumbaum azz
The builder says it's 98% Accurate.

Annoying music
