I loved the shots and the first arc of the movie after a certain scene *spoiler* leg scene I kinda thought it was too far fetched to happen and then it just escalated in an unsatisfying ending for me. But the movie is eye candy
I’m determined to see it for a second time in theaters because that experience was unlike any other. It demands to be seen on a huge screen surrounded by speakers. I had no idea what I was in for when I went to see it and it is truly now one of my favorite horror movies of all time. I felt so seen and it had so many cathartic moments that had me suddenly crying and the whole thing was such a magnificent shock. Edit 3:14 “so many adaptations seek to explore female archetypes through a strictly masculine lens.” YES. Mild thematic spoilers: I love how the nudity exists in the movie to make those who will be uncomfortable feel so and then if the viewer so chooses to consider why exactly they felt so afterwards. All of my male friends, and I’ll be honest hearing this made me sad, were all so uncomfortable watching the nudity in this movie but they couldn’t explain to me why, despite having seen explicit female nudity in other films when those scenes existed PURELY for the male gaze and for intentional sexual reactions from the male audience. I think it starts a great conversation about how a lot of men are trained to view female nudity, about how one may not be able to see it outside the direct lens of sexuality vs nudity being a normal, human body.
Hello Vex, I hope you're well. when I first watched the teaser trailer for this film on UA-cam. I wasn't too sure about it at all. but due to your excellent new review of it. I'm definitely going to watch it now. :)
I thought it was excellent. It also explored another really uncomfortable aspect of modern life: loneliness, especially that of shallow, vapid people who have nothing except for their looks.
Allow me this note on reflexivity about the uses of the color green for the photography of the substance. It might become beneficial to exhaust metaphorical symbolism to renew narration and motivation for spectacle by nullifying the primitive shocking effect of something red... for example...🤨... Or mutation green.
I'm glad it worked well enough to resonate with women outside of the progs, but they wouldn't say it "foregoes" feminist themes. The agent is clearly supposed to partially represent the crusty white male patriarchy. While this is a real human experience being tackled onscreen and it is a direct commentary on society, I worry it wholly excludes any nature aspect of why soicetues and markets develop in this way in favor of exclusively nurture and the "choice" to do evil oppressive male-ism. I like your take that it's ultimately about insecurity and the beliefs that some women succumb to for much of their lives. I'm often interested in movies that evidently do a good job of presenting a female gaze (perspective), so someone with your sensibilities finding them would be useful.
If you gain wealth and popularity via beauty alone, you have no right to complain about it all going away when your beauty fades. Try cultivating something noble and virtuous instead.
Actresses and models all strum the same violin. The gravy train stops in your 30s and the smart ones prepare for the inevitable. With other income streams and a loving family/support system.
Everyone should see the movie. Almost everyone I know loves it. My guy friends that saw it were uncomfortable with the nudity but that only made me ask them, Well, why? It’s imo a body horror masterpiece and if you enjoy horror I absolutely recommend it, no matter one’s gender.
Without having watched this movie- yes. Watch movies that are not made for you. Watch movies made in foreign languages for foreign cultures. Dare your brain to get new insights.
Bruh. Fight Clud was literally male cinema. Doesn't mean it's only for men. It made me both sympathise and empathise with male struggles. It's human, yes, but more men resonate with it than women. However, we can still feel the message being explored.
I guess if it's female cinema then it's not for me, and therefore neither is this review. This is a courtesy comment to explain the 1 second watch-time.
You have the emotional and intellectual span of an OF model if you take a video review title at face value without examining the meaning for yourself. Congratulations, miss.
The Devil Uses The Substance 👠👠 🧪 😅 Now this is how you Sci-Fi, THIS is how you Twilight Zone. Science Fiction is honored by the Substance of this Speculative Fiction. Perfecto-Mundo Vex 💋
Everyone thought of Oliver stone Natural Born killer and Kasovitch Dobberman could be a cool thing to show to your nephew?...🧐... Daywatch and Nightwatch can prove freakin intense as well...🫤...
Why haven't you seen The Substance in theatres yet?!
Because I'm sexist.

Not into body horror
I blame it on the eighties
What about Schmidt
I didn't know this movie existed. Fantastic review. Appreciate the recommendation.
Nice review!!

leg scene
I kinda thought it was too far fetched to happen and then it just escalated in an unsatisfying ending for me.

Great review !
I was wondering about this movie! After your review I’m definitely interested in seeing this. Fantastic as always 🔥

Need to check into this
My wife has been talking about going to see this… unlike the Barbie movie, maybe I’ll humour her with this one.
I thought it was excellent. It also explored another really uncomfortable aspect of modern life: loneliness, especially that of shallow, vapid people who have nothing except for their looks.

How far will you go to look good ?

I like that the theme of boobs in the movie was completely revealed.
The thing is, should men even see this movie, in case it's "not made for us?"
Men can 10000% still watch this, understand it, and resonate with it.
Everyone should see the movie. Almost everyone I know loves it. My guy friends that saw it were uncomfortable with the nudity but that only made me ask them, Well, why?

👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
Unrelated to the segments of the movie I watched... I just threw up.
I'm not sure if AI is used for the voicover on this video or not, but it just felt utterly bereft of actual personality.
Damn this sounds like a paid promo
I WISH LOL
The apathy has taken ye. There shall be no excitement, no joy.
Female cinema??? Can’t we just have cinema for everyone?
Bruh. Fight Clud was literally male cinema. Doesn't mean it's only for men. It made me both sympathise and empathise with male struggles. It's human, yes, but more men resonate with it than women. However, we can still feel the message being explored.
That's like saying, "Romantic comedy??? Can't we just have comedy?" It's simply a movie about a female. Calm thy teats.

You'd probably enjoy it if you give it a try
I'm so sold! Thanks VeXXXy
