Not a Leeds fan at all but that was the most obvious example of cheating (European Cup Final of 1975). I remember watching the match at Butlin's in Ayr and most people who were watching in the big hall set out with the colour tv were non committal although by the time Lorimer's goal was ruled out for offside that had changed. Everybody felt Leeds had been cheated. It was a double insult for Leeds after they were also robbed of the European Cup winners cup in 1973. Yet it did at least pave the way for later English teams to dominate the European Cup at the end of the 1970s and early 1980s. There is no doubt in my mind that that crooked match played a role in ensuring that the Europeans cleaned up their act.

True but he should have done. And he should never have left Leeds but he couldn't face getting rid of his players and rebuilding the team. RIP The Don.
There was no dominance of play by Leeds. There was a defending champion, filled with numerous players who were part of the 1972 European Championship and 1974 World Cup championship teams, and a British team that had never won anything, that came out determined to play like thugs, and be overly physical. Leeds played like thugs all over the field. Anytime Bayern got the ball in Leeds half, the Leeds players fouled immediately. Anytime the ball entered the Bayern penalty area, Leeds players barreled into Bayern players. Gamesmanship was being used early and often. Easily there could've been 3-5 red cards against Leeds. Three of those potential Red Card challenges occurred well before any of the controversial moments that Leeds fans complain about. This match looked like Atletico vs Celtic, only without a ref who had the nerve to award the red cards for deservedly reckless challenges. - In the 3rd minute Yorath injuring Andersson with a viscous tackle from behind after the whistle was already blown for another foul. He didn't just tackle him hard either, he broke his leg, with a compound fracture, that had the physios instantly call for a substitution when they saw him. Yorath went without punishment. He shouldn't have been on the pitch. Bayern should've been playing up a man from the 3rd minute on. Instead they were forced to take out of their experienced defenders for a sub that hadn't been fully warmed up. - In the 5th minute Jordan flails his arm back elbowing Duernberger and causing him to go down injured, and yet Duernberger gets called for a foul. Clearly a yellow card foul, if not a red card for intent to cause harm to another opponent. With all of Jordan's reckless tactics throughout the game, him being on a yellow for this early challenge ought to have had him at least sent off for a second yellow later in the match. - In the 16th minute, after Hoeness dispossed Clarke on the flank, Clarke then steps on Hoeness' leg, causing Hoeness to go down injured, and Clarke just takes the ball and drives into the box with it. No call occurs, but Hoeness is forced to be off the pitch trying to get treatment for several minutes. He wouldn't be able to finish out the first half, and Bayern were forced to make 2 first half substitutions predicated by injuries to their starters. - In the 41st minute, Lorimer leaps in with two feet in the air and makes a scissor kick from behind with an absolutely vicious violent challenge on Kapellmann. At first the ref awarded nothing, but then on consultation it appears he then walks over to Lorimer and gives him a yellow card. But this tackle deserved far worse, and many of his other tackles deserved yellows to where this should've been a second or third yellow in the game. He was lucky to still be on the field. That's just the first half alone. So let's say only 2 of the 4 potential were awarded red cards. Do you think Leeds playing with 9 men would've been able to hang with Bayern playing with 11? How well would leads have played even if it was only 1 of the 4 red card plays being issued? As far as Leeds claims, they're mostly bogus. There was no "handball" against Beckenbauer. Yes Jordan complained that there was, but that doesn't mean it occurred. On the video, there is no shot that makes it even look remotely like it was played by a hand. Beckenbauer slid in, and you can see the ball moving at his feet before his hands go down to the ground. After that point his hand is down on the ground as he is pushing himself to get up. That's not playing the ball with a hand. His hands are in a natural position, and the ball is in close range. If anything at that point it's ball playing hand. But, as was already said, no look on the video shows the ball near his arms. It was down by his legs the entire time. Sure, a penalty shot could clearly have been awarded for the tackle on Beckenbauer. However, there's no guarantee that the penalty would've been converted. Leeds took numerous shots that day, and most sailed high and wide, with only a select few on target. Let's also keep in mind that it was Sepp Maier in goal, the greatest keeper in the world at the time. The reason that PK might not have been awarded was the angle the ref was looking at the play. He saw the play clearly watching it from behind, which is the exact opposite angle of the replay camera angle. The replay camera angle shows the ball further away from Beckenbauer's foot as he slid. From the back, where the ref was standing watching in, it might have looked as if the ball moved when Beckenbauer's foot slid in. Another reason it might not have been called was because it was a close play and not a certain penalty. Refs don't like to decide big matches with awarding PKs unless it's clear. Yet another reason it might not have been awarded, was that the entire possession which lead to the chance in question occurred when the ref stepped in front of a Bayern pass, which gifted possession to Leeds with Bayern moving forward out of position. Perhaps he felt guilty for having done so. Clearly that chance would not have occurred without the ref's interference. Either way, I'll concede the missed PK call, which occurred after 3 missed red cards, or early yellow cards, which ought to have changed the entire complexion of the match. However, the offsides play involving Bremner was clearly offsides. There's no doubt about it. Even watching the German broadcast of the event, you can hear the astonishment in the commentator's voice at the call, and doesn't believe it, until then the replay is shown, and then his tone completely changes, as he states "Ja, ja. Ganz klar. Billy Bremner." (Yes, yes, it's clear. Billy Bremner.) and then goes silent. That was just on watching the replay, without later knowledge about who the ref had actually called to be offsides. So it was clear as day that Bremner was in an offsides position. For those of you making complaints about whether he affected the play, it doesn't matter. There was no passive offsides rule back then. Offsides was offsides, and he's clearly behind the last defender. He is also right in front of the keeper from where the ball is coming from so he definitely did affect the play. Bremner was not the only one offsides, either. It appears that another player had part of his body behind the last defender, and that's all it takes. For those of you complaining that there should've been a red card to the Bayern player who shoved Bremner offsides, get real. For one, there was no push on Bremner, he was just forcing himself forward to get into the attacking area. No contact put him in that position. It was Bayern players stepping forward to clear the zone that put him offsides. The one in particular, Beckenbauer immediately put his hands up and went looking for the linesman, since he knew he stepped up with Bremner behind him. For two, there is no card for pushing someone into an offside position. It's like hockey in that sense. It doesn't matter how you ended up in the offside position, only that you're there. A lot of contact occurs in the box on plays like that. Unless he dragged him by the arm while he was laying on the ground kicking and screaming they're not going to give a card for it. Then, Bayern scored. Not one, but two pretty brilliant goals. The first of which only occurred because Torstensson knew once he received the ball there would be a hard tackle coming so he drew in the defender and dished it off as soon as the ball arrived which sprung Roth into the box with the sweeper out. That's why Bayern won this match. Not because being aided by the ref, because clearly 2 of their players were injured off the pitch with little reprisal. Bayern won because they adapted to Leeds overly physical play and found a way to beat them. At one point in the second half, you can sense when it occurred. The crowd was jeering Bayern for passing the ball back to Maier to avoid the high press. Then they adapted and found ways to brilliantly work the ball out of their half, and the crowd began to applaud their play. That was when the match turned, and that was when Bayern began asserting themselves. Once they found space on the flanks far from goal in the attacking half, they found ways to exploit it. The first goal came from a ball started in that area, and they found a way to string 6 quick passes together, and spring a player into the box freely. Beckenbauer at midfield knew that the space was on the flank, and sent it to Kapellmann. Kapellmann knew too far down the flank meant contact, and he touched it slightly back to Duernberger closer to the half line, who had plenty of time and space to find Müller open in the middle of the pitch, who brilliantly saw Torstennson at the top of the box with his back to goal. Torstensson made the crucial play, anticipating the hard challenge to come, waiting just long enough to draw the sweeper out of position, and played a ball for a streaking Roth who was playing into the box with the sweeper out of position. Roth finished it well. The second goal came because Kapellmann had the ball on the flanks, and no one came out to pressure him, so he continued to carry, the further he got without someone stepping up to pressure him, he took advantage of it and began a sprint down the flank around the Leeds defense, and played a nice square pass into the box, where "Der Bomber" was known to finish nearly every ball he could get his foot onto, and that's just what occurred. Müller beat Stewart to the ball, and touched it into the net. That was how Bayern played. Slow patient, always perusing to find the space needed. A lot of possession, usually occurring when Beckenbauer the sweeper would shockingly move forward into the attacking half, causing a mis-match of numbers for marking assignments, and then they could always find the 1 guy who was open to get the ball to. It took them so long to accomplish it in this game because of how hard and often Leeds were fouling. At one point in the second half the announcer mentions that the fouls are 18 to Leeds 7 to Bayern. That doesn't even count the several fouls that occurred that weren't called. Leeds played in true underdog mode, hoping to put Bayern off by being physical. It only worked for so long. Bayern played like a champion and found their way to make the breakthrough they needed. Now, I've seen it written that Leeds were the best team of the 70s several places recently. That was hardly on display here. There is no skill displayed by Leeds in this match. Ajax won the Euro Cup 3 times, and many of their players made the 1974 World Cup Final. Bayern won the Euro Cup 3 times, and many of their players were on the German side that won the 1972 European Championship, the 1974 World Cup Championship and placed runners-up at the 1976 European Championship. A few had also been on the team that were runners-up in 1966, and 4th in 1970. What did Leeds do other than make this one Euro Cup final? Nothing. Keep in mind, this was 1975 and the decade was halfway over before any suspension occurred. What did the British players on their team do during the 1970s on the World Stage that also reflected their greatness? Nothing. Forest and Liverpool went on to challenge at the end of the 1970s but nothing on the international stage matched the club level success. Those clubs were not nearly as dominant as the Ajax and Bayern teams were on shaping the game. No one says I want to play like Leeds from the 1970s. Everyone wants to borrow from Ajax and Bayern then. Then even still the English continued to prove their hooliganism elsewhere. Bayern deserves the edge as team of the 1970s over Ajax by nature of beating them in the 1974 World Cup final, and winning the 1972 Euro Cup final, returning to the final in 1976 only to lose the first ever penalty shootout to decide a competition. Hard to credit all that to just 1 ref in 1 match, who allowed several of their players to be injured from harsh tackles without reprisal.
+Peter Manson You seem to be muddling Bayern and West Germany, even with overlap. I liked Cruyff and Ajax and total football. West Germany excellent in 72, Holland in 74 (unlucky). There were some dubious decisions against Leeds in the European cup final. But maybe it wasn't so one-sided as their fans like to believe. They were unlucky v AC Milan in 73, should have won more trophies but were a dirty team.
Liverpool were the team of the 70's uefa cup 73, then 3 entire seasons unbeaten in Europe, uefa cup 76, European champions 77 & 78, it took a very good English team (Forest) to eventually stop the run, liverpool didn't just beat teams, they destroyed them
those crying about cheating by the losers ofLleeds: Look at the whole game and you´ll recognise that Terry Yorath should be closed out by a red card after 10 minutes! Look at Bremners big chance just before that offside-goal by Lorimer. Leeds was unable to score a goal - and Bayern did it twice: that´s the facts of this 20th final of the eurocup!
robbery? leeds should have been playing with 10 well from the start. Bayern player had to be substituted cause he almost got his leg broken off by leeds player!
Leeds United fans really think they got robbed? English sort of humor, eh? The ref was poor, but much more to Leeds advantage. Yorath must be sent off in the 4th minute after one of the ugliest, but typical furtive fouls in Cup Finals history. Andersson was out for 8 month. Hunter must be sent off in the 2nd half for an clearly intentional assault out of frustration on Kapellmann. Gray razored Hoeneß in before halftime and injured him so severe, that Hoeneß had to end his world class career with only 27 a few years later. All three fouls were even for 1975 standards clearly sent offs. Watch the game in full length and closely, if you dont understand what i mean. Facing reality helps more then drinking. And yes, Bremner was offside and in Maier´s view. The only refs decision in favor of Bayern was Beckenbauers clear foul on Clarke. That was a penalty. But thats it. Leeds actually had to play the whole game with one man down and later with two and three men down. As funny as it is. So get real. With a proper ref, Leeds loses much higher then only 0-2. The behaviour of the Leeds players and fans at this game and afterwards and the four year ban by the UEFA, spoke for itself. Thank god this filthy club doesnt play no role anymore and their fans still suffer, Cheers.
Thank you, Fishy Fred. I thought I was the only one who rationally sees this for what it is. If you watch the full match with a clear mind, you see that Bayern were wronged more so by a ref that allowed numerous eggregious tackles that injured Bayern players, and deserved to be red cards. This looked like Atletico vs Celtic. Leeds were absolute thugs. That's not to say some on the team didn't have talent, but the way this entire team played, not just in this game, but week in and week out in England was just pure thuggery. Their riotous fans displayed the same classless violence with regularity, matching if not upstaging the woeful product on the field. In the match the better team won, and the result was legitimate. Both Bayern's goals were completely legitimate. The Leeds "goal" was rightly disallowed for offsides. Billy Bremner was clearly offsides, and clearly obstructing the keeper's view while in that offside position. The penalty on Beckenbauer could have been given. But, the ref's view behind the play makes it look like the ball moved away when Beckenbauer slid in, indicating to him that Beckenbauer got the ball. Also, let's not forget that the play started when the ref broke up a Bayern possession gifting that odd man breakaway to Leeds. As you pointed out, there also should have been several red cards issued to Leeds, even by the relaxed standards of the day. You mention the 8 month layoff for Andersson. Also, Uli Hoeness would never fully recover from the injury suffered that day. He tried in vein for 2 years follwing that to continue playing, but could never recover to full health. He was forced to retire early with knee problems stemming from being razored by Lorimer in that game. This was a pure hack job. Then there was the violent outburst in frustration later on in the match. I am also so glad that these Leeds thugs never made a major impact on the sport again. Even in their odd semifinal run in the early 2000s they still did it with talentless thugs thugs like Alan Smith, Mark Viduka, Harry Kewell, etc. Good riddance to that lot.
Beckenbauer should have been sent off for the foul on Clarke that should also have been a penalty, but football was a different game in those days. Both sides got away with fouls which would mean a red card today, but only Leeds were denied a legitimate goal and pen. I don't support Leeds, btw, and neither am I English, but the truth is plainly obvious and everyone knows it. Also, calling a football club "filthy" is unsportsmanlike and girlish. They were cheated out of the European Cup, what more do you want?

Danny-r Michel Kitabdjian has admitted to being bribed? You must let me know where you read this....if he wanted to help Bayern then he had the perfect opportunity after four minutes when Yorath made a horrible, career-ending tackle on Bjorn Andersson, a red card if ever there was one...as for the comment, the English were very bad losers in the 1960s and 70s...look back to the that era and look how the English viewed 'Johnny Foreigner'...perhaps watch TV shows like Mind Your Language and Fawlty Towers for an idea.
whiteknightgb11 the ref, Kitabdjian, was poor but his worst decision that night was not sending off Yorath...even Yorath, in his autobiography, regretted the tackle...let's be honest, Leeds were lucky to play 90 mins with 11 men.
hugodrax71 ok lets be honest ,Michel Kitabdjian wasn't just poor he was bent ,we should have had 2 penalties one for handball by hoeness and the 2nd for a blatent trip on Clark just as was about to round the keeper ,plus a perfectly good goal disallowed .

behind danny Kelly is a poster from 'France 98' and they talk about the internet as if its just arrived..which in 1998 was still new.

This presenter should be on kids tv.
If Bremner was offside ! Leeds should of had a penalty as the jumping Munich defender, knocked him (Bremner) into an offside position
Love it!!! Any match footage of Duncan McKenzie?
He could the jump over a mini and throw golf bowl full length of a football field
The brutal Leeds tackles that took out two Bayern players are always conveniently forgotten. Yorath, for one, should have banned for life for his contribution.
this presenters constant interrupting and chirping ruins this interview, what a clown, everything that's bad about television.
Presenter looks like he’s played plenty of football in his time 😂
Danny Kelly , talk sport radio presenter.
Subito, tweede klasse.
i would have liked it very much if had leeds won, it was very unfortunate
wonder if Duncan McKenzie can still jump over Mini's
Or throw a golf ball from the terraces at one end of the ground to the terraces at the other end.

What about the 2 (ultimately) career ending challenges from Leeds players on Hoeness and Andersson? If that game was played today Leeds would've been down to 10 men before half time.

The referee took bribes, he was found out a few years later. To Leeds fans we won the European Cup and that's that.
No , but you didn't did you ! There's plenty of stuff going around that Revie bribed referee's and teams or even attempted to bribe teams to throw a match . Yes , Leeds were robbed but I think it's just Karma for all the strokes Revie pulled . By the the way , you may think that I hate leeds Utd . I do , more than any club but saying that , I know they were a really talented team and played great football .
Danny Kelly still talking over people on TalkSport 2016 ...
Kelly actually says 'we know now that the ref was bought'. Is that actually true? I mean, I know it was terrible reffing. But was it actually proved he got a bung?
Why not an earlier UEFA cup final with an Italian team which was played in Athens, Leeds lost and the ref was found guilty of taking a bride from the Italian club. Its on UA-cam if you want proof. Then in the semi-final of this competition Leeds played Barcelona have a look at that. for 90 mins Barcelona kick the shit out of Leeds and still lost. The ref again is some what lacking in his responsibilities.
But hey Leeds lost and BM were a good team so let it go I guess.
Who was the stiff next to him in the red jumper?
some good uploads on yer channel mate
Leeds robbed so many times! Not even fair!
+Doylers! Did some skulduggery and bribing of their own and were dirty. Unlucky a few times, should have won a few more trophies considering their consistency at or near the top. But didn't, and not always cos robbed by refs.
Wonderful what Clough said to the Leeds players when he told them to throw all their medals away...and why.

Football was a mans game back then.
There were two horrific tackles made by Terry Yorath and Frank Gray, one which ultimately led to an early retirement through injury. This was pretty much the Leeds style under Don Revie, I guess this is why apart from Leeds fans no-one really remembers or cares much.

Cela aurait fait 2 1 pour la bayern.
+Peter Manson I was there and you are talking bollocks
+Peter Manson You seem to be muddling Bayern and West Germany, even with overlap. I liked Cruyff and Ajax and total football. West Germany excellent in 72, Holland in 74 (unlucky). There were some dubious decisions against Leeds in the European cup final. But maybe it wasn't so one-sided as their fans like to believe. They were unlucky v AC Milan in 73, should have won more trophies but were a dirty team.
Peter Manson bullshit
What are you on about mate?
Liverpool were the team of the 70's uefa cup 73, then 3 entire seasons unbeaten in Europe, uefa cup 76, European champions 77 & 78, it took a very good English team (Forest) to eventually stop the run, liverpool didn't just beat teams, they destroyed them
@zlatapraha lol
those crying about cheating by the losers ofLleeds: Look at the whole game and you´ll recognise that Terry Yorath should be closed out by a red card after 10 minutes!
Did love it when British teams won the European cup. ..Except 99.& 05 &12
poor hard done by Leeds always somebody else's fault that they failed. One of the dirtiest sides I've ever seen, deserved nothing.
Troll
i think you need to get yourself an eye check up! that ref was as bent as a two bob note!
They were cheated out of the European Cup, what more do you want?
i do take issue with leeds fans wrecking paris that is horseshit ( in the video not freds read of the game) the riot police were totally off the charts that night ,they started it bullying people to0 get on ferries when they had hotel bookings for the night
typical leeds united fans
But they didn't have the pluck of a petition against Bayern.
when the English lost in Europe they always screamed foul play...the classic example being Inter stuffing Liverpool in the San Siro in 65...maybe, just maybe, the opposition was better
What a stupid comment considering the referee himself admitted to accepting bribes long after this.
Danny-r Michel Kitabdjian has admitted to being bribed? You must let me know where you read this....if he wanted to help Bayern then he had the perfect opportunity after four minutes when Yorath made a horrible, career-ending tackle on Bjorn Andersson, a red card if ever there was one...as for the comment, the English were very bad losers in the 1960s and 70s...look back to the that era and look how the English viewed 'Johnny Foreigner'...perhaps watch TV shows like Mind Your Language and Fawlty Towers for an idea.
hugodrax71 we were totally robbed MOT
whiteknightgb11 the ref, Kitabdjian, was poor but his worst decision that night was not sending off Yorath...even Yorath, in his autobiography, regretted the tackle...let's be honest, Leeds were lucky to play 90 mins with 11 men.
hugodrax71 ok lets be honest ,Michel Kitabdjian wasn't just poor he was bent ,we should have had 2 penalties one for handball by hoeness and the 2nd for a blatent trip on Clark just as was about to round the keeper ,plus a perfectly good goal disallowed .
It was a great result. I was dancing round on a table in the Barge Inn in Skipton.
