Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Fair use is a use permitted by copyright statute that might otherwise be infringing. Non-profit, educational or personal use tips the balance in favor of fair use
    Fair use
Additionally, the fair use defense to copyright infringement was codified for the first time in section 107 of the 1976 Act. Fair use was not a novel proposition in 1976, however, as federal courts had been using a common law form of the doctrine since the 1840s (an English version of fair use appeared much earlier). The Act codified this common law doctrine with little modification. Under section 107, the fair use of a copyrighted work is not copyright infringement, even if such use technically violates section 106. While fair use explicitly applies to use of copyrighted work for criticism, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, or research purposes, the defense is not limited to these areas. The Act gives four factors to be considered to determine whether a particular use is a fair use: the purpose and character of the use (commercial or educational, transformative or reproductive); the nature of the copyrighted work (fictional or factual, the degree of creativity); the amount and substantiality of the portion of the original work used; and the effect of the use upon the market (or potential market) for the original work.

Indeed - more nefarious activity from UEFA Officials when English teams concerned - been pretty blatant over many years. When you have its former President - Platini - openly coughing to fixing the World Cup draw, a multi billion pound event - and nothing is done, no more needs to be said. RIP Peter Lorimer - one of the greatest shots in the game. A Scouse Red.

Leeds were not a GREAT team but were unfortunate with two penalty decisions here. Like a lot of English teams at this time they had a lot pressure but resorted to a lot of high balls and didn't make many clear chances. Bayern had more class. Leeds could not have destroyed Atletico Madrid in the way Bayern did in the final the previous year.

Not a Leeds fan but the injustice is their for all too see in this match. The Referee might well have wore a Red shirt on the night. @@captainwin6333 It's not as simple as people think. I remember this at the time and have looked at it a lot over the years and I think the key to the whole thing is what did the linesman do immediately the goal was scored and what was the conversation between him and the referee. Bremner WAS in an offside position and could have been said to have been interfering with play - it's a subjective decision - some referees would have given it and some not. Kitabjian signalled for a goal but we can't see what the linesman did. Beckenbauer immediately gestures to the touchline as if the linesman was flagging and Kitabjian seems then to disallow the goal and then consults the linesman under pressure from the Leeds players. They have a very quick conversation and he nods at the linesman as if he has confirmed it was offside, turns around and signals no goal. So you have to conclude that the referee disallowed it on the advice of the linesman. Although Leeds were unlucky not to be awarded one and possibly two penalties (which would have made it a totally different game) they didn't play that well on the night (neither really did Bayern) which was the consensus of the press the next day. They didn't conserve their energy, attacking too much and Bayern cleverly bided their time and picked them off with a couple of clever breakaways.

Had that match been played today Leeds would've won simple. Like I said I'm not a Leeds fan, but their was no fair play on that night for sure.

Im a Bayern fan and undoubtedly Leeds were robbed. Clarke was tripped by Beckenbauer for a penalty, and Lorimers goal was perfect and legit. Mind you Yorath and Gray should have been red carded for a) breaking Anderssons leg and b) ending Uli Hoeness' playing career with another "wood-cutter" challenge, but in those days I think you only got a red card if you decapitated a player intentionally or shot them with a gun.

Leeds playing with 10 men for 88 minutes against FC Bayern wouldn't have ended nicely for Leeds , so you also have to thank the ref for allowing you to play the game with 11 men , my own opinion is the ref knew he messed up when he saw Andersson's leg, and tried to even it up , which you can't do in football.

It is now accepted that this match was rigged and the referee was paid off. Too many results in Europe during the 1960s and 1970s were "fixed" and all too often it was English teams that paid the price particularly against Italian and Spanish teams.
It is about time that some of these wins were reviewed and teams stripped of their titles. On an international footing then Argentina should also be stripped of their 1978 World Cup win as it has been proven beyond reasonable doubt that the Argentine Junta paid the Peruvian Government to have their team concede the 5 goals required to eliminate Brazil and allow Argentina to progress beyond the group stage.

Leeds was in luck, when Terry Yorath get not a red card for his leg-breaking-foul against Andersson. This offside-goal has a story, which is not told in the video: Just before there was a cleary offside-situation which were not given, allthough everyone was suprised espaccially Billy Bremner who stands very lonely in front of the Bayern goalkeeper. This Scene had the referee is his mind, when he decided offside against Lorimer, I suppose. In the end it was a great victory of cleverness and tactical discipline!

No it didn’t the linesman didn’t put a flag up . And the ref and BBC commentator thought it was a goal till Franz Beckenbauer told the ref it wasn’t , and it was disallowed . Let’s not forget Beckenbauer with another penalty earlier in the game . And if you look at the goal , Bremmner was not off pause but wasn’t involved in play . And he wasn’t obstructing Maier’s view .

Bullshit. This is what the German !!! commentator said about Yorath´s tackle: "...und noch etwas wurde fairerweise bekannt gegeben. Es war doch kein Foul von Yorath, sondern Anderson hat sich selbst verletzt, er ist hängengeblieben im Gras des Platzes und hat sich das Knie verdreht. Also ein Opfer des schlechten Rasens, der schlechten Platzverhältnisse hier im Parque de Princes von Paris."
Roughly translated: no foul, injury due to poor pitch conditions. This info came directly from Bayern´s officials btw.

If a player was in an offside position, anywhere on the pitch, free kicks were given. It actually happened from goal kicks at times when sides would stand on the half way line and hope someone would go too early. By the law at the time Bremner was offside. The Clarke penalty was a pen, but only on replays it showed Beckenbauer played the man not the ball. Ref gave the corner. Yet to see one Leeds fan admit Yorath should have been sent off for his leg break tackle in second minute. Very well disguised over the top tackle, which was a sending off even then. Bremner was in an offside position at the moment that Lorimer struck his shot. Back then the offside rule was strictly applied. Bremner was in the six yard box and between the posts. The ruling would have been that he was seeking to gain an advantage, which indeed he was. Virtually all offsides back then were given for that reason. Not interfering with play would only have been a consideration if a player was lying injured out on the wing, which was rare. Otherwise the interpretation was, if a player was clearly trying to take part in an attack and strayed into an offside position at the moment the ball was played, the flag went up automatically. In those days the ONLY controversy concerned the question of whether the player was indeed in an offside position. Not whether he touched the ball, or even attempted to do so. Whether he was in the goalkeeper's eye line or not was not considered relevant or would have even crossed anyone's mind. If he was in an offside position, for example an attacker at the far post was offside when his onside team mate nodded the ball into the net at the near post, up went the flag and the whistle was blown. No goal.End of story.
Some people here have been confused by the repeated tinkering with the offside law over the past thirty years, and have forgotten just how simply and somewhat puritannically the rule was applied for the great majority of football history. You may not agree with it, and believe that the changes that have been made are for the better, but this match took place BEFORE those changes were made. The decision of the officials was completely in line with the rules as they were then applied.
    The penalty is another story!

The offside rule was quite strict pre-90s. If you shot at goal and a teammate was literally standing next to a touchline in an offside position the flag was raised for offside. It wasn't until the '94 World Cup when 'passive' offside wasn't whistled and play was allowed to continue.

@@wbafc1231 I agree. But you are viewing 1975 with the laws of today.
If you pause the video at the moment Lorimer strikes at goal you'll notice Bremner is just beyond Beckenbauer. At that time, pre-1990s, the laws said he was offside. Line of goalkeeper's vision was an unknown thing. Bremner could have been standing near the touchline while Beckenbauer was standing in the box and Bremner still would have been flagged for offside. That's how the law worked at the time.
Today we look back at that and see how stupid the law was but it was what we knew and were used to at the time. That's why Bremenr was jumping back as Lorimer shot at goal. He was trying to get in onside position before Lorimer hit the ball.
It wasn't until either Euro 92 or the '94 World Cup that the laws on offside were loosened a bit with "passive offside" to help the attacking team more. For an example, see 1994 World Cup Brazil's second goal (by Bebeto) against the Netherlands. Before that World Cup, Romario would have been flagged for offside.

last week I saw a documentary on bobby Charlton at 80 an English football legend and a totally honest genuine world class footballer I saw Franz beckenbauer on it and immediately my thoughts turned to this game a dirty fucking cheat who knew what he was doing and was prepared to win at all costs also if you watch when the penalty's awarded in the world cup final the previous year clearly demonstrating with Jack Taylor as he pointed to the spot this 1 and Allan Clarke's should have been a penalty 2 blatant penalties and I don't know how people can praise beckenbauer as a great footballer when all along he was a cheat who bent the rules

The Germans have always had a history of cheating . 1954 : They’re players were taking Pervitin which is a amphetamine ( which is a performance enhancing drug used by German soliders in WW2) throughout the tournament and Puskas got robbed of a perfectly onside goal that would’ve levelled the score to 3-3 . 1970 : Beckenbauer and Germany doesn’t get punished for blatantly fouling Colin Bell in the six yard box . In the semis of the same tournament, the ref plays on for 4 extra minutes than he should’ve played the match on for . Isn’t it a coincidence that the ref , blew the whistle for ET just after Gerd Muller scored . 1974: Blatant diving for the German penalty , that entire tournament was scripted for Germany to win , why do you think the FIFA director at the time said Germany were gonna win the tournament just before the WC . But no doubt Holland with their arrogance were just helping FIFA 1982: Blatant cheating against Austria , all they needed to do to make Austria and Germany go through was score one goal against the side . After they did they didn’t even play football . Talk about pragmatic football . The Algerians got robbed . Then you have Schumacher I don’t know how he’s still on the pitch despite nearly killing Batistant . Then he goes into make the crucial PK saves that lead Germany to the Final . 1986: Blatantly throwing the match against Denmark so they wouldn’t have to meet , a talented Spain side that embarrassed them 2 years earlier in the Round of 16 .

Welsh linesman in 54, Argentinian referee in 70, injury time against Italy, Dutch referee in 82, no evidence of throwing a game in 86 and FIFA scripted the World Cup for England in 66. Please remove red/white/blue blinkers.

1954: There is no official footage of the offside goal and the German commentator called the offside before he even shot. The doping thing is probably more true. I'll give you that.
1970: Yes it was a valid goal and it was a penalty (Penalties were given less often back then. remember) However the referee was fair he also gave a yellow card to Gerd for taking down Alan Ball and yelled at Overath for not listening to him. Also he didnt end the game when Gerd scored (Revenge for 1966 this)
1974: Netherlands penalty in that final was an even bigger joke and a valid Gerd goal was disallowed and there could've been a penalty for Germany later on. Also Havelange is an absolute joke he said that 1966 and 1974 were rigged but 1978 wasnt and he also didnt say that before the WC i think.
1982: Austria's fault for bending over. Algeria also immidetaly lost against Austria after immense momuntem after beating Germany and nearly blew a 3-0 lead over Chile...And in that semifinal against France a valid Fischer header was disallowed and a soft penalty was awarded to France. Yellow card to Schumacher and indirect free kick to France.
1986: No evidence of them throwing the match. Also btw Germany defeated Spain 2-1 at the 1982 world cup...which took place in Spain.
Now lets look at other matches. France vs Germany at the Euro 2016 semifinal: 2 clear penalties were denied to Germany. 2014 World Cup final Germany vs Argentina: Basti kept getting fouled and was bleeding and absolutely nothing was given to punish Argentina. 2010 World Cup semifinal Germany vs Spain: Ozil was denied a clear penalty and in the quarter final Muller got an undeserved Yellow that costed them the semifinal. 2002 Germany vs South Korea World Cup Semifinal: Goalkeeper didnt get sent off against Neuville and South Korea was doping. Anyways i can go on and on with more examples for Germany getting bad decisions from referees but this entire comment is too long already.

They always say "if the ref says it's not a goal, then it's not a goal" (when they know it's goal scored against them). Maybe 15-20 years later they'll say ..it was a goal. (Like Beckenbauer admitted....altho' he never admitted how much influence he had on the officials), Good player, but terrible sportsman.
