    I will be making this for sure this weekend. Just bought my 1st Dutch oven! A friend of mine used to make this every hunting trip.
    Great video and to the point.

    I just made this today according to his directions and it turned out superb.
    I as a Texan however made my own homemade biscuits, which only takes 10 minutes
    and keeps the taste very natural
    I cooked this is an oven at 405°, using my cast Iron Dutch oven
    It is actually very light, and the sausage adds a very juicy flavor to it while not overpowering it.
    I highly recommend this amazing recipe, it should serve about six people easily
    Thank you so much for sharing this amazing recipe.

    Great videos and ideas. One suggestion though. Get yourself a stand and set of reflectors from a photography site. With yhe back lighting on the fence you are quite dark. A reflector with the ambient light out there would make a professional quality video. Thanks for the tips we use them for the scouts.

      I know... lighting has always been a issue where I live. Half the time it's so bright your blinded and the other half the sun is behind the trees... some day I'll get it right.

    Very helpful video Gary, thank you. By the way no one should really use galvanised metals near fires as the compounds used to galvanise the steel decompose when heated into fumes which are very dangerous. Although the risk is is nominal the effects are accumulative and just because symptoms aren't apparent yet doesn't mean harm isn't being done.

    • @CookingOutdoors

      +Bruce Good to know! Thank you!

      Has to be hot enough to gasify to be harmful. If that little bit of heat would harm him, we would all be dead.

  • @Holdem5150
    @Holdem5150 7 років тому

    Do not know if anybody commented yet, but please be careful heating galvanized metal as in trash can lid it gives off significant levels of zinc which can be harmful. Great channel and content.

    Hi Gary, I'm 15 and I'm a beginner dutch oven cook, and I'm just wondering why you use camp chef dutch oven over lodge oven?

    • @CookingOutdoors
      @CookingOutdoors  10 років тому

      Jeremy, congrats on cooking with Dutch ovens!!! I own both brands and they are both great IMHO but I use Camp Chef on the show because they are my sponsors and they deserve the support. All my recipes will work in any brand you happen to use.Gary

    This looks AMAZING!!! Cant wait to try it. Any recommendations on dutch ovens?
    I'm looking at getting a Cabela's Outfitter Series™ Cast-Iron Tri-Leg Dutch Ovens 12qt or the Cabela's Oval Roaster 12qt (i saw your rib episode on this one and i was starving all day lol).

      Tom, I think you will be very happy with both models. They are made by Camp Chef (last time I checked) and will last a lifetime or more. Good choice!

    At that 10-15 minute mark, I would take the biscuits out, stir in about two or three chopped fresh tomatoes, then put the biscuits back on and continue as per your recipe. You will find that the tomatoes add something very special and when added at the last minute, they don't get over done. I also add tomatoes to macaroni and cheese in the same manner. UMMMummm!!!

      Just looking at the picture is making me hungry! Vicki...tomatoes with biscuits? Hmm...Interesting!

    • @vickiolson1198
      @vickiolson1198 9 років тому +1

      Marti Brown You add the tomatoes to the stuff under the biscuits and mix them up in it and then put the biscuits back on and the cheese on top of that like they did in the original recipe. It adds a whole different flavor profile.!!!
